Is Sarfaraz Ahmed the worst judge of a run in international cricket?

Just watching the highlights, there were at least 7 occasions where Sarfraz almost ran himself or his partner out rather unnecessarily. Now I know he ultimately won the match for his team but I can’t think of a worse judge of a run doing the rounds.

I think his judgment of a run gets worse in run chases. It has cost Pakistan matches in the past and I worry that since he shows no signs of improvement it’s going to cost us crucial matches in the future in tight run chases especially against top quality fielding sides.

He just takes so many risks and relies on the fielder making a mistake which is a recipe that fails more often than not. This is a area where you’d think the coaching staff can maybe make a difference. Thoughts?

i would put partial blame on the other batsmen as well for not using all of their senses. they should use their multiple senses before taking off for a run.

He did acknowledge the issue in the post match comments. So I guess that’s a start.

I do consider him a pretty good finisher but the running is a handicap.

He was an excellent runner between the wickets and strike rotator from 2014 to 2016, since then his fitness has gone downhill and so has his running between the wickets.

^yes i agree, saffy gained a lot of weight last year. I do see him losing some weight now and being skinny.

That's not right.

The two events are mutually exclusive and not linked to one another.

Independent probability.

You can be a terrible runner with a low dot ball percentage.

I made a similar thread. Actually sarfaraz over estimates his ability to run fast. His frame doesnt allow him to take those quick singles but he has probably not come out of the mindset of his teenage days when he was fitter lol

I think it reflects a certain helter-skelter mindset that he has. He even talks as he is always in a hurry and his reactions on the field display a certain excitement and impulsiveness.

Although I am speculating here, I am suggesting that it is a lack of mental calmness rather than lack judgement of a run that is at issue and if this is correct then I am not so sure it will be easy to fix.
