is he?

Some think that post Afridi he should be the T20 and post Misbah he should be the Test captain while as long as Azhar Ali is doing a good job he should remain the ODI captain and Safraz groomed as his successor.

He seems to be no frills and no drama, which is what a team like Pakistan needs.
He performs under pressure which is what Inzamam did, Imran did and Miandad did

T20 yes, but after Misbah, Azhar Ali should be the test captain as he is the VC.

I think this is how it should work:

If Malik doesn't fail overseas, then give Malik the T20 Captaincy. Also give Sarfraz the test captaincy.

If he does, give Sarfraz the T20 Captaincy. Also give Azhar the test captaincy.

Give Sarfaraz the test captaincy if Malik does well overseas? There's no correlation. I think it'd be a snub to Azhar Ali if he's not given the test captaincy after Misbah

No I think it would relieve the pressure.

Sarfraz-Azhar-Malik all have a captaincy responsibility.

3 different captains has worked in Azhar-Misbah-Afridi

Don't think Malik should be next in line for any format. There's a reason we've appointed VCs.

Azhar will be the next Test captain, so by default Sarfaraz can't be the captain in Tests but perhaps he will be in T20Is.

Sarfraz will be the next t20 captain for sure while azhar will be the next test captain(witch srafraz maybe his vice captain)

With Afridi and Younis going, Fawad proving to be a failure at this level and Asad not cementing himself in ODIs, Sarfraz is now the blue eyed boy of the Karachi mafia and they will continue to advertise him for captaincy.

He will be to Azhar what Miandad was to Imran and Afridi was to Misbah.

Not sure, is the OP wishing for that? Because I see no signs of Sarfaraz being fast tracked for test captaincy.

Sarfaraz has captaincy experience in the U-19 WC and in domestics. Why not choose and groom a young captain?

Sarfraz has a shrewd, brilliant cricketing mind and he has remained a top captain throughout the U19/domestic scene.

He'll become the T20 captain, and in Tests/ODIs, will be the deputy to Azhar.

I don't see Azhar going anywhere for the next few years, and chemistry between the two is excellent as well. They'll complement each other well.

Not being fast-tracked.

Not all players are Azhar Ali. Captaincy takes a lot from you. You are not the same free spirit when it comes to batting once u are a captain.

Sarfraz would have been captain over Azhar if he had cemented his place earlier. Sarfraz has been famed for his captaincy skills early on and in his U19 days. Azhar on the other hand it's been more of something that has been put upon him once he cemented his place in the international side.

However since Azhar's been made captain now and was pretty much labelled the successor before Sarfraz came along and cemented his place in the side, Sarfraz will probably be vice-captain.

Not sure I see him taking T20 captaincy either. He plays all three formats, and is better in tests. I see him being rested in T20s to manage the workload. It's tough to juggle gloves and bat playing all three formats as well as captaining. It's going to be difficult since he hasn't exactly cemented his place in ODIs, although most agree he deserves to be there, there's dispute about his place. And him being a wicketkeeper, difficult to make him bat up and make another specialist batsmen play at 7. Then in T20s sometimes he's used up top. So where does he decide to bat in T20s? The whole thing becomes very complicated given Sarfraz has no set batting position in LOI. If that changes, then it's a lot more likely he'll get the captaincy in T20s.

I think Malik will be given a go after Afridi for a while if still playing. After will probably be someone new or perhaps Sarfraz.

It's more I think Sarfraz is a back up, if things start going wrong with Azhar he'll replace him as captain. I also think some people in the media favour Sarfraz over Azhar hence are trying to push for him but I don't think Azhar will be going anywhere for now.

When Misbah retires Azhar Ali should be the test captain as he is the VC and I personally think Sarfaraz Ahmed should be the T20 and ODI captain

Sarfraz has been groomed for captaincy from early age Pak U-19 Captain, Karachi and PIA.

What else track, other than domestic, required?

May argue he is good or bad captain but cannot argue his track for captain eligibility.

Shobby might be a good option for ODI captaincy as well if Azhar doesn't prove to be a good captain. I think he needs showcase his captaincy capabilities in a much better way! What say?

Except that Azhar and Sarfaraz are the best of friends. They would never fuel the flames the way Afridi did.

I fail to understand how and why Kamran Sajid has been Captaining PIA since last 7-8 years. Have a gut feeling its fishy.

Sarfraz should have been PIA Captain at the age of 22 just like Alex Lees was made Yorkshire Captain at 22. By that time Sarfraz had played 4 FC seasons. Now he should have had 7 years of Captaincy experience in list A and FC Cricket with 3 years permanent and last 4 years on and off experience.
