Goodwill can only get you so far and seems that Sarfaraz Ahmed's honeymoon period as Pakistan captain is now coming under strain.

From what I gather, a few journalists who may have supported him are turning against him. Expect a turbulent period for Sarfaraz in the coming few weeks.

Just comeback from the match. More dissapointed in the way we lost. Something needs happen. Either Sarfraz improves his batting or?

Why do these journalists have so much influence that their support or lack of is significant?

It should be the support of the fans and their opinions that should count and be given attention to.

Is he the best keeper you have in Pakistan? Then, I would say keep in him Tests because you need to be good at your primary job in Tests. But his batting is horrendous though.

Hi batting is horrendous in swinging conditions but then so is most of the top order and has been for as long as we can remember

There might be a case made for him to let go of the test captaincy. I think that’s a bit shortsighted.

First of all the guy needs to get into a fat camp. Secondly he needs to spend time in the nets. He is going the Kamran Akmal route. The Wicket keeper in the team has to be the fittest individual and our Wicket keepers eventually end up going in the opposite direction.

His average is the best ever by a Pakistani WK batsman and the second best in SC after Sanga if i am not wrong

He took 5 catches this innings.

He is a human being..give him some break..However I do feel he needs to adjust his batting position both in ODIs and Tests.

Sarfraz definitely needs to improve his batting otherwise his time is limited.. good captaincy and series end result is satisfactory too considering how many debutants and youngsters are part of this setup

It was always on the cards - he has just been exposed for the vastly overrated cricketer he is.

Journalists' opinions influence the opinions of fans in Pakistan most of the times. A lot of these sports journalists have their own personal agendas and they do more harm than good.

Two series against Aus and NZ in UAE are going to be crucial for his future in Tests.

Is he dropping catches? If not, he shouldn't be replaced, he is above average as batsman.

I think Pakistan need more tests in UAE. The way test cricket is evolving it seems like everyone is a lion in their back yard. We only play like 3 tests a year in the UAE. We should play 8 tests a year in the UAE. Its only fair that our boys get the the same chance to boost their averages and confidence just like how Anderson and broad have taken nearly all their wickets in their back yard. Play Australia, south Africa, england..
Basically top teams in UAE and murder them... Then can we start talking about improving abroad for this young side. Shafiq and Azhar have no excuses though.

His batting has been mediocre but his keeping is fine, not Latif or Bari level but better than Kamran and Moeen. He still drew 1-1 as the captain. Won CT not too long ago. Got #1 T20 ranking. He's safe for at least another year.

Have never rated him as batsmen. He can only score runs in UAE, not in away conditions against quality bowlers. He is another Hafeez and cannot handle genuine quality bowlers and Waqar knew that at the last WCup. But he will probably get a bagful of runs in the UAE and be safe until the next away tour.

I called it right after the ICC trophy, much to the consternation of many. He is the biggest weaklink in Pakistani team.

What most dont seem to understand is that he is actually performing at his level.

He’s the least contributing member in test team. Keep him in ODIs, but we need to get rid of him in tests

He's shied away from responsibility from a long time. He scored one 50 in a t20, one in a test match against SL, and one against SL in the ODI Champions Trophy These stats are embarassing for anyone let alone a captain of a team. Not to mention the team has done pretty well for a player who hasn't batted well 9/10.

Also it doesn't seem well that a guy shouts at his team members but is questionable in his perfroamnce 90% of the time.

I think more than his captaincy (Which has been okay to be honest), his batting is one which should be the cause for concern for the team management. If he keeps failing they would run out of reasons to keep him in the team. His average has been dropping and with every passing game, the pressure will build.

He is literally playing as a specialist captain at the moment. We need to reassess where we want to see our test team and then make a decision on whether we can carry a tailender + WK or not!

The Karachi and Lahore cricketing divide is very much still around.

Sarfaraz has his buddies in the media there to back him, the same guys who hate players from other places than Karachi.

On the other hand a lot of the non-Karachi are gunning for Sarfaraz now.

What was interesting though was at Headingley, some of the Karachi journos were criticising Sarfaraz which was surprising.

I don’t get why journos have so much power in Pak cricket setup? Their job is to report and that’s all.

Who gets into the team or who goes out is upto the selection panel.

It should not matter if you are from Lahore, Karachi or Faislabad. Mediocre players can’t stay long anyway in International cricket. You have to perform to stay.

For the hate Sarfraz gets, it would be great if Sarfaz is dropped. The certain Karachi haters community deserves pathetic w/k bats like Akmal and Rizwan with no upside. They whinge as if Sarfraz has been lobbied for a place in this team after robbing a spot of bunch of Rashid Latifs in Pakistan.

It's been over for a long time, but knowing us fans we will let him live off the CT win forever. Need to be ruthless if we want to become a top-4 team as we are nowhere close yet.
