Is the label "Covidiot" appropriate to describe those who ignore Covid-19 protocols?

I’m curious what people’s experiences have been in person (as opposed to online) with such individuals and whether such labelling is appropriate.

I have had discussions with who people doubt it, think its a mass conspiracy and change their views once they have had it or know someone who's had it. I have had debates with people who think there is some chip being implanted or that it's a Western conspiracy against ethnic minorities. Sometimes I was so bamboozled I genuinely didn't know how to respond.

I think the labelling isn’t completely appropriate. Not all the people (like the thread I made on those brown girls who went to a crowded party) are idiots. A lot of people who disregard covid and still do what they like are simply malicious and selfish. They realize that because of their age or whatever, they can risk getting the virus, but they have no sense of responsibility to others which is why this virus isn’t a big deal for them.

Try five why’s technique.

Rather than telling them, I question why they believe what they believe.

For many this process allows them to see the flaws in their own argument.

Ironic isn't it, they can risk getting the virus which has killed tens of thousands but peddle nonsensical theories about the vaccine and don't want to risk getting a vaccine (which at its core is a neutered version of the virus).

That's not a bad idea. It needs self-reflection from an individual too. Even myself years ago I'd believe some fringe nonsense, only to sit down and one day think deeply why I believe what I do. The problem is many of these people believe this about a virus that is deadly, so maybe if they see the flaws of their reasoning maybe it will show them how flawed it is (or one hopes)

Calling people covidiots will help nothing, if you want to educate people calling them names will only make them take a defensive approach.

Speaking openly with respect will go a long way when discussing issues you have differences.

I have no respect for an educated individual who does not have regard for the lives of others

I think that the term of covidiots is more than fair to apply in some instances. For instance in the UK despite the regulations, there have been many instances of house parties and large weddings where 100s of people gather in confined spaces. This is despite it being common knowledge that such gatherings are harmful and illegal. Hundreds of people die from Covid here daily and some areas of the health service are under threat.

Now, knowing all of the above if people decide to host/attend such gatherings they will get no respect from me and frankly calling them an idiot pales in comparison to what they are knowingly doing.

At the very least they are selfish. Many of them are pseudointellectuals who reject the totality of evidence that is stacked against them.

The title was edited to state it is only those who don’t follow protocols.

I think it’s more appropriate who push false propaganda and conspiracy theories.

Would be interesting to get their view point.

There are far too many selfish and stupid idiots around. Desis lead the way but its a problem for all communities. I cant be bothered to argue or debate with these ******.

The issue is that these people tend to target the most vulnerable sections of our community, such as the elderly to propagate their conspiracy theories.

One of the responses I got was "yay paray likhe lhog koi zaida hee nukhray karte hain" :))

Freedom of speech but yes these covid iota belong right up there with flat earthers, Qanon followers, climate change and moon landing deniers

I think the crux of the matter is that, these conspiracy theorists are looking for validation.

Ultimately, their opinions on most things aren’t taken seriously because they are devoid of any substance.

However, to endanger lives just to satisfy your own narcissism is disgusting. Especially, when you consider that it is probably only the most vulnerable that could be duped by them.

I’ll say it again, you have blood on your hands.

100K deaths already in the UK and counting.

Vile human beings to say the least.

It’s pretty sad. Some people have a lot of negativity as well as time
On their hands, they latch on to some unknown sinister enemy and start attributing all these co doors you crap to “them”

Easy way for them to vent...
But they cause irreparable damage
