England defeated #1 ranked India by an inning and 159 runs in 2nd test. The defeat margin is huge. And India did not even play total 80 overs in the match and get bowled out twice. Is this the worst defeat ever for a #1 side in Tests?

2011 tour, India arrive as the top ranked side for a 4 test tour of England.

Result: Eng 4-0 India

1st test: Eng won by 196 runs
2nd test: Eng won by 319 runs
3rd test: Eng won by inns and 242 runs

I think this was the worst defeat ever for a number 1 side.

Getting bowled out twice in 80 overs. It cant get worse than that really for a number 1 side.

Were we still the number one ranked team when West Indies beat us in Sharjah in 2016? If yes, then that is easily the most humiliating defeat for a number one ranked team.

Losing at home Test to West Indies in this era as a number one side is far worse than getting thumped in England.

the margin of defeat in 3rd test of 2011 tour is bigger than the 2nd test of 2018 tour but India could not play even 80 overs and also lot of time was lost to rain and still India surrender in 3 days

Nope. :shaq

India have been the Number One team since October 11th 2016.

We lost that Test to the WI in the UAE on November 3rd 2016.

Pakistan fans are celebrating this win more than English fans.

"Begani shaadi me Abdullah deewana" type situation here.

Thank you. In that case, in recent memory, it is difficult to think of a worse defeat for a number one ranked team than this.

Doesn’t change the fact that India have been very good at home (albeit competitive in SA) the last two years.

Their fans should take pride in that.

What about getting destroyed by Steve O Keefe of all people at home and not able to cross 150 in both innings?

I forgot the margins of defeat. That was an extremely one sided series.

Rotaay hain cham cham ray, ujar gaya Mamoon ka umeedon ka mahal rai

To try and spin an ugly, quick, really painful defat of India and flip the conversation to a bad memory for Pakistan, this must be the stuff Mir Jafar and Mir Sadiq were made of!

I would think England’s Test defeat to us in 2012 when they failed to chase 145 in the 4th innings was pretty bad lol (forgot which test it was). I believe they were the no. 1 ranked team at the time.

They got bamboozled by Abdur Rehman of all people and Andrew Staruss even said it was the most “painful” defeat of his career

Arguably India vs SA at Delhi in 2015 Nov, SA couldn't muster in both innings what India scored in their first innings
