Ishant Sharma: "I want to bowl at 100MPH"

Always go with the action that is the most natural to you. Everyone is different.

His performances seem to be intrinsically linked with the length of his hair.

When he cut them, he was nowhere to be seen.

I actually hope he does well, he's not that bad of a bowler when in full flight.

Very Stuart Broad like in his style and action.

Also very Stuart Broad like in my dislike for the both of them.

Ishant bowled with his mentor in SA as well where pitches are best for pacers and he averaged almost 50. Everybody looks in good rhythm against a ranked 7th side. Ask :hafeez

And yet your legendary Wahab managed a total of 4 wickets against a low 7th ranked team at an average of 38.75...Beats me !

Ishant is not a smart individual. Why would a bowler who averages 35+ want to copy a bowler action who averages 32? One poor bowler trying to copy another average test bowler. Ishant should have set high standards and copy bowlers like Steyn or Asif who average below 25.

He wanted to swing the ball like zaheer and it was more about the release than the whole action.....

This guy says funny things when hes doing well with the ball. :)))

He better keep his mouth shut when in form. :)))

Has anyone seen this cartoon at cricinfo

:))

Yar - the guy takes wickets - he could like the Elephant man for all I care as long as he keeps India on top. End of.

If you are going to copy someones bowling action, WHY Zaheer Khan?

They run out of videos of Waqar and Asif and McGrath and Ambrose and Imran and so on.....?

I'm glad he came back to sense and hope he carry over his recent form to England. Ishant can be handful on bouncy pitches.

Youngsters do strange things under peer pressure/influence of those whom they see day in and out. If you know what I mean :amir

Woah, we didn't even get to England before Ishant returns to normal useless self.

Ishant Sharma could be India's answer to Tremlett: Simmons

India's bowling coach feels that given Ishant Sharma's height, he can be a real handful in English conditions.

India's bowling coach Eric Simmons feels the tall and lanky Ishant Sharma could be a perfect answer to England fast bowler Chris Tremlett in the Test series starting later this month.

Simmons, a former South African fast bowler, said if Ishant controls the ball, like he is doing in the ongoing series against the West Indies, the 6' 4" fast bowler can come handy on the bouncy pitches of England.

"If he bowls with the control he has got now, Ishant can be a real handful in England. He has obviously got the height. His ability to get bounce out of a wicket from a fuller length is crucial. He is getting more confident now that his control is back. The no-balls are disappearing. He's going to start finding the pace that he has. To try and bowl quicker when you haven't got confidence is not going to work," Simmons was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.com.

"I think now he'll start bowling consistently at 140kph, 141, 142, and that's just going to add to his strength. The only thing is he can drift down leg now and then, but it is a minor issue," he added.

Former England captain Geoffrey Boycott tipped the 6' 7" Tremlett to trouble the Indian batsmen with his bounce and pace. Boycott said Tremlett reminds him of three greats - Curtley Ambrose, Joel Garner and Glenn McGrath.

Simmons, like Boycott, also feels that pace spearhead Zaheer Khan can trouble England captain Andrew Strauss.

"He has the ability to knock over Andrew Strauss during a crucial moment in the game against England at the World Cup, and to take crucial wickets in a Test when the ball starts reversing and the match is going nowhere," he said.

Simmons said that Zaheer had taken the right step but opting out of the Test series in the West Indies for rest.

"He also understands his body really well. He picks up on niggles very early. At times something could have grown more serious, but he picked it up early and pulled himself off. He has the ability to fix things. Now even Ishant has started to do that. I used to tell Ishant that his front arm was going over, that he was falling over. Now he is fixing things himself. Zaheer has the ability to fix things in the middle, and not wait for tea or lunch break. His break has been a blessing in disguise. He has played a lot of cricket. He went into the IPL from the World Cup. That must have been difficult," he said.

Haha

Totally different actions.

Also haha at Boycott saying Tremlett's pace and bounce.

Tremlett is awesome but he is nothing near quick.

I think, Sharma is going to have a very successful series in England.

Well he is comparable in pace to Garner and quicker than McGrath.

I have more of a feeling that we will get "learning process" kind of statements. Ishant will have to remember that England will have "swing", not the steep bounce which makes him effective. Bounce in England is traditionally supposed to be of the tennis ball variety but then, you never know. He could come back and surprise us.

Any bowler with a little bit of talent can 'be a handful' in English conditions. RP Singh swung the ball like a banana during the last tour here and took some important top order wickets. Then he disappeared back to being crap again.

The Duke ball+overcast conditions and anyone on their day can run through a side.

I think he will do well. He has the makings of a decent bowler and may well become one.

Yes hes alright mate. When I say decent bowler I mean someone who will average 30 odd around the world and have 250+ wickets. I'm not hating on him.

You are right in your understanding, may be 22 years of Indianism has made me believe an Indian medium pacer averaging 32 with the ball is quite decent :P
Your standards are high obviously :/

Opposite to that i guess people out there in Pakistan will say a batsman averaging 30+ in ODIs and 35 in tests is decent :22: :butt

Well in my 22 years of being a Pakistani ive seen inzi, yousaf and younis etc so wont be considering substandard batting decent for some time yet :p

Not sure if you watched the Ashes Rob :D

He bowls at the speed McGrath bowled at when he retired.

For god sake don't compare him to Big Bird. Just don't.

Good to see Ishant has found some form, has real talent.

This thread should be renamed to "Ishant Sharma".

Why spoil the fun?

He made the comment, have to wear the jokes from your Pakistan friends.

Is like Mohammed Hafeez saying he wants to score more hundreds than Sachin, try and look at it that way if you possibly possibly can.

Good on him. Yes Wakram, Waqar, etc are better bowlers but maybe their ish-tyle doesn't suit Ishant compared to Zaheer

A timely Bump needed here

32 overs-128 runs- 0 wickets
at lords on 2 relatively overcast days.

*bump* :D

Seems like he's back trying his injured team mate's action again :p

He needs to put on about 10 stone before he can truly replicate Zaheer's action.

He was disappointing, MSD expected better from Ishant, to be fair, he was told to bowl well outside off-stump to KP which isn't exactly what you want to be doing as a fast bowler.

He had a poor day, no doubt. Dhoni expected more especially after Zaheer got injured early on.

Could Ishant prove to be the greatest Indian fast bowler?

Great performance by Sharma again today, bowled really well in the Windies. Bowled fast and with intimidation. In time he will become the best they have produced in all conditions. It also shows character to come back from the rubbish he was bowling last yr.

He has potential and bowled a lot better in the 2nd innings with a lot of fire, leading wicket taker this year. Well done young man. But get a haircut

He has already produced a lot of match winning spells in his short career, God bless him. May he serve us for a long long time

^ bowled beautifully but doesnt look like a beast. Now tremlett is a perfect specimen of a beast

He's a current great Indian bowler, if he was pak he'd be amongst the Umar Gul ranks

What do you mean beast? He looks like a tall woman.

But yes he has bowled well but is very inconsistent. This tour will probably define his career.

after what he bowled on the 1st innings does this spell really make up for it. guess you can say he was decent in the match.
unlike Bhaji who was awful

I don't understand why people asking for Ishant to have a hair cut... All he has to do is to take off his extensions!
