Islamabad United beat Lahore Qalandars by five wickets in the opening match of PSL 2019

Bloody hell Asif Ali, why can't you do this for Pakistan? Why do you look like a tail-ender when playing for your country?

We ask the same questions for many failed international cricketers. Look like million dollars in domestics and then play like noobs in international arena.

Some players don't have that mettle I guess to succeed at the highest level.

Haris Rauf tasked with defending one run in the last over.

<insert "Am I a joke to you?" meme here>

Oops, Hafeez on...and Rana ji has done more in this knock than he has ever done for Pakistan.

GOAT innings by Rana and Asif. Somebody check if babajee is ok

Whether we like it or not Asif Ali will earn a comeback in the ODI XI. No doubt he's going to shine once again this season.

There was no point dropping him from the ODI squad.

Ugh! So gutted with the result. These two are proven failures at international level so I don't think we're going to gain anything from this performance!

LQ is still LQ...again this year they may finish 1st..... from the bottom :P

because lads, international cricket is a different ball game altogether.

ask mark ramprakash
Asif Ali has faced inferior bowling attacks on easier wickets, and has looked like a dud. That pick up shot off Rahat, I highly doubt we might ever see such confidence in international cricket.

As I say this, Faheem smashes the living daylights out of a length ball by Hafeez. He is busy playing with his ducks in international cricket.

Clinical finish by these two. Goes to show the talent is there, but the mental strength is as good as zero I'm afraid.

Asif Ali and Rahat Ali performing are not good signs for Pakistan cricket.... hopefully just an anomaly

Can somebody tell me why they don’t bat like this when playing for Pakistan.

They both looked like different players today....

Qalandars as always started well then lost the plot & united as usual bounced back from pretty much awkward situation

Fakhre Alan is such a crap host. What’s with the fake tone

because mate, international cricket isn't the same as this.

Too many examples from Pakistan in the recent past.

You can't seriously say this Lahore bowling attack is worse than the South African lollipop, falooda bowling attack they played recently. The confidence levels are through the roof here.

They are used to facing Shaheen in the nets.

Just not good enough for the international arens.

PSL is like a qualifier to play PAk International team offcourse one will work hard.. once made it to team its all about perception...:kp

Captaincy of Hafeez left a lot to be desired. They needed Shaheen and Rauf to bowl last 4 overs. Rahat bowling after 16th over is a recipe for disaster.

International bowlers are a bit smarter and use change of pace a bit more intelligently.

Haris was supposed to be good with yorkers, what better time could have been to bowl him then the last 5 overs

Junior Dala, Chris Morris, Dane Paterson, Tabraiz Shamsi are better bowlers than the Lahore bowling attack? And also the small matter of South African wickets being more conducive to strokeplay, than this slow pitch with low bounce.

Some of these players just freeze at international level.

waiting............ play him tomorrow against any top side he will fail 10-10 times

"Since Asif Ali made his ODI debut no one has scored faster than him in ODIs. Four scores of 30+ in eight innings as a hitter is hardly inconsistent anyway."

Also worth remembering he has not played outside of UAE in ODIs.

Pitches were different in South Africa

These guys would perform in UAE day in day out.

His recent T20 series in SA was bit disappointing but people need to realize that players take time to develop at international level.

It's the bounce. Because of it, they were unable to middle it. Look at Asif or Faheem's strokes. It's the same technique. Nothing changed. They were able to middle it here but edged it there. If talent is the ability to play strokes, then they have it. That's domestic level. International level is taking it to the next level and adjusting to different conditions and play your strokes accordingly

I was more concerned about their batting order. Where was hafiz hiding.

LQ fans, like Pakistan team fans, should make peace with lower order collapses. They had the game in control up until Rahat Ali bowled his final over. They needed Rauf and Shaheen to bowl together at that stage.

The players that performed in this match

Hussain Talat (can't freaking touch the ball in international cricket and swings the bat so much air around his space probably begins to get hurt)

Asif Ali (Honest to God he doesn't look like clearing the circle and you can bet your house that any int'l spinner would get him within three balls at max - seems that Chahal would get him in 2. R. Khan & Kuldeep in 1)

Rana ji (Can't bat using his natural stance in int'l cricket. Comes out and reverse sweeps the premier test bowler of his country)

Waqas (Looks like a poor man's Sohail Tanvir who himself looks like a poor man's version of Sohail Tanvir that burst on the int'l scene long long time ago)

Fakhar Zaman (Gets hit on the helmet so often that he should probably get a sponsor sticker on his helmet like people have on their cricket bats)

Rahat (Undisputed greatest cricketer of all-time, not one of the mere mortals but something more celestial)

Players that failed in this match

Shaheen Afridi (Has received critical praise wherever he has played cricket in whichever format he has been made to play)

ABDV (Possibly the most complete all-round batsman to ever play the game)

Y. Shah (Phantom of Dubai basically)

What kinda alternate universe did I wake up in today? "Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?"

Not restricted to this league. Pretty much everywhere.

Just watched the highlights. Hitting technique was good from most. Thank god all of those hacks are gone.

I thought Afridi cost Lahore the match- bowled confused rubbish. The Yorker was the only ball that worked for him and he would bowl it well and then look to change to short ball or the slower and neither worked.

Their bowling apart from Rahat and to some extend Yasir were pretty poor though.
