Islamabad United defeat Lahore Qalandars by 49 runs in Karachi to qualify for the play-offs

Its good to see cricket back in pakistan but they should have kept the game serious by keeping a decent size boundaries.

The "quality of bowling in PSL is the best" drama will blow up into a million pieces when PSL returns to Pakistan on a full-scale. The UAE pitches are simply not suitable for Limited Overs cricket.

The margin of error for the bowlers is huge. It is really hard to time the ball, and the boundaries are pretty big as well. The UAE leg of PSL is godsend for bowler.

True.

Oh right... I need to get over the regionalism?????? Go read the first posts on this thread, people hating on Karachi for no reason.

May be they have high expectations and really wanted the stands to be full? Its shocking that a city of millions of people can not fill a 35000 capacity ground.

Karachi's party scene during the matches is awesome.

Crowd also very good, fun.

Stadium needs major improvements.

Some people need to stop crying about boundary size. It's getting annoying. Just enjoy the game.

But, didn't you say UAE and Pakistan are identical.

No that is constructive criticism, what is happening is straight up hate coming from certain posters.

Yes I agree we will see more high scoring matches definitely however, even some international players have praised the quality of bowling in PSL.

But, didn't you say UAE and Pakistan are identical.

No I didn't. What I said was that Pakistan enjoy considerable home advantage in Test matches compared to non-Asian teams. The ball doesn't swing or seam, and the wickets helps the spinners. In fact, we would have lost more Test matches in Pakistan in the Misbah era than we did in the UAE.

Goto Karachi and try to get inside the stadium with in 2hrs. It is the Karachites who have the courage to go thru this hassle and still create buzz no stadium can match in Pakistan

PCB really need to make sure the stadiums are completely ready next time around. Enough with hiring cheap contractors, hire the best person for the job.

Next PSL, they NEED to make sure all of Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Multan, Hyderabad, and Fasialabad stadiums are completely ready. Even have Peshawar and Quetta ready for the future. They can't have so many games in a row in the same city and expect people to fill up the stadium every game.

Hate is wrong. I dont actually know which post or posters you are reffering to. As in, both Lahore and Karachi are part of Pakistan so no need of hate. We need to unite!

Really want international cricket back in Pak now, outfield and pitches are just so much better. Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Multan, Faisalabad, Hyderabad etc all offer some really good pitches and atmosphere.

People are starved for cricket here. You can host a match anywhere in the country and people will go through the hassle and create buzz. Karachites have not exactly performed a miracle. Nevertheless, I am glad that the matches are not in Lahore.

It's empty at the moment :yk :yk :yk

8 matches in Pakistan's premier city... must hurt Karachi haters like you. Keep crying, don't wet your nappy.

No it's the Karachi Street mafia, cricketers and media I hate actually which you endorse on this forum every week.

So it helps us in tests not in one day games ok. Thanks for the bright insight. Our batsmen will be miles better here then UAE. We would have won a lot more odi's here too and tests too. These are our home grounds not UAE.

Realistically speaking, we can forget matches in Peshawar for at least another 10-15 years. Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Multan and Faisalabad are the five venues that the PCB need to maintain/upgrade for international cricket.

Pakistan has not been a strong home team since the 90's. It is delusional to think that we would have won all the ODI series that we lost in the UAE. Our batting is simply not good enough and our bowling is heavily overrated. On flat pitches, most teams will outscore us over a series.

Thanks for clearing it. So if you hate Karachi cricketers, you do not hate Karachites? Whatttt?

Come on guys stop making this a Karachi vs Lahore fight and stop ranting about the boundary sizes.

Just enjoy and be happy.Too much whining makes you depressed and when you are depressed than you dont feel like doing anything and when you dont feel like doing much then you dont watch cricket and when you dont watch cricket then you miss the excitement of Psl.So stay happy and enjoy Psl.

I have no problem with Karachi hosting cricket but would like to see matches in Rafi Stadium instead when construction has reached completion.

I reckon if test cricket comes back to Pakistan, keep it away from big cities, people don't turn up. Give tests to places like Hyderabad, Abbottabad, etc.

No it's the Karachi Street cricketers I despise such as Sarfraz. I'm a big fan of Saeed Anwar and Javed.

Ppl need to be objective in their criticism. Most ppl in Karachi live pay check to pay check. Ppl can’t miss work. These are the ppl who drive Karachi’s economy.
Tickets are expensive. Security is tight. Fans are treated like **** by the authorities. Keeping all these things in mind, this is a good crowd.

However, considering the lack of power hitters in the team and current Pak batsmen prefering bowl coming on the bat, UAE doesnt exactly provide that.

Our ODI team will definitely improve when international cricket comes back to Pak.

That much is true, but our bowling will also struggle a lot on these wickets. The likes of England etc. will put on massive totals on these pitches.

Yes that should be the focus to start with.

What is the difference between a Karachi city slicker vs any. Ignorance has no boundaries. You have to choose words wisely.

Yes they will also struggle but I would trust our bowling more to win us matches on their day than our batting on even best of the days.

No one said we would win every series. So a home team is not good on their turf. This is the first for me. Our batting is not good, bowling is not good, but good for UAE, not Pakistan. Whatever makes you sleep at night.

May be Sialkot as well. My faded memory tells that last major cricket game played in Sialkot was 1989 IND Tour (4th Test).

But, what PCB needs to do as TOP Priority is to build a large Stadium at Islamabad, somewhere on the new Airport access road, with a 5 star hotel within walking distance and training facilities within stadium compound. It's impossible to provide full-proof security without hampering metro life in Karachi or Lahore, where the stadiums are at the middle of city with so many high rise buildings around.

Abbottabad Stadium is not international standard, and Hyderabad Stadium has very little capacity. They are not feasible options, and will require heavy investment.

The five stadiums that I've listed are all international standard and used to host matches frequently. It will not cost the PCB much to do what they have done with NSK.

Sarfraz's lack of professionalism with how he conducts himself resembles the gulli mohalla in him.

I think what you want to say is that there is some good set of players that come through some knwon lobby instead of hard work in domestic cricket or talent. There is definitely a mafia present in Karachi that promotes players of their liking.

For a change, I'm really happy that GSL isn't getting the matches this time.

It gets the most attention, but our biggest city Karachi doesn't get as much as it should. Neither the deserved funding from the PCB.

PCB had a lot of time to hire some competent contractors to uplift the stadium. Didn't do a great job.

I think a few ODIs in the 90's were hosted there. The stadium is reportedly in terrible shape, but yes it is also a realistic 6th venue.

No other city fills up the stadium like Peshawar does though! ;)

With spinners being the most economical so far, strange why Lahore hasn't ever tried Devcich as he has taken wickets.

We are an average team home and away. Not sure what is difficult to understand here.

I don't need anything to make me sleep at night. I get a good 7-8 hrs of sleep every night. However, perhaps you are the one who needs a sleeping pill to cope with our Test and ODI rankings.

Yah the stadium is crap , surrounded by sabzi mandi. No way its going to host any international match , there is no parking place either

Sarfraz's lack of professionalism with how he conducts himself resembles the gulli mohalla in him.
You need to get off your high horse. Ignorance is found EVERYWHERE in our society which is a collective Pakistan issue, not Karachi

Yeah, for the near future, those 5 are the best bets for sure.

Further down the line, they could give tests to smaller places, as tests don't really bring in big crowds. It can be a way to give smaller places more exposure to cricket, and maybe even a way to show off some more picturesque areas of Pakistan to the world.

Harris Rauf should've been in the squad. He is good.

Pace bowling department has a lot of competition going on. It was hard luck for him to miss out especially with his ability to bowl yorkers and at such a pace.

Hopefully he can be given a chance in T20s, not sure if he will be tried in one off T20 in Eng though.

Thanks for bringing up the rankings, i am sure we would have been higher if we were playing in Pakistan rather then UAE. Only haters like you or deluded people think otherwise. I am sure you was getting less sleep after the response our army gave to India so hence you need to assure yourself by talking negative about Pakistan.

Still not a full house lol

As I said earlier it's most probably around 10-12k people in the ground.

Might get to 15k in the second half but won't be surprised if it doesn't.

First game in Karachi let's give it a leeway to get there.

Don't put words in my mouth, I never claimed/implied it was just a Karachi issue. I don't like the media, mafia and some of their cricketers. I have no issues with Karachi people but I will say they care more about their own as evident by a notable Karachiite on here.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but recent tensions with India could be the reason the stadium isn’t full today. During previous editions there would be non-stop chatter for days about PSL’s Pakistan leg on ALL the News channels. This year, post Pulwama incident PSL couldn’t dominate the headlines.

Not enough media attention = not enough interest among masses.

Yes we would be number one in all formats today, had India not attacked Sri Lanka in 2009.

You twist more than the pretzels in my hand

LQ needs to get Asif Ali early here, that could save them some runs.

the boundries are too short..... its a joke to do this...... this is not cricket to have such short boundries

It mostly has to do with the sudden shift in the matches from LHR to KHi.

Also, yes, the media attention can also be a factor.

Asif Ali is the first Pakistani batsman today who is batting in front of the home crowd.

People need to understand that there is some skepticism regarding the security due to recent tensions. Quite a few people fear that there might be an attack during these games. I know some people who cancelled their plans of going to Lahore for the matches because of this reason. Perhaps people will be encouraged over the next few days to fill up the stadium.

Sohail Akhtar's drop of Delport has costed LQ a lot till now
