"Analysis" from Shoaib Akhtar on the problems with Islamabad United:

"IU looked like a team in disarray - Didnt think at any time the IU management and their team were on the same page"

"Its my feeling that IU is a team up for sale"

"Looks to me the team lost interest in this match and seemed to be playing as if this was their last game"

"I saw Dean Jones, Wasim Akram and team owners supporting the team wholeheartedly but I did not see the same from the IU side"

"KK is looking good because their opener is working - Sharjeel looks overweight - he had time and he should have come back tagra but he didnt do that but when he plays, he plays in a flawless way"

"Arshad bowled well - he is a new bowler and runs-in in a heavy way but he bowled well and I think he's a find"

"Due to foreign players leaving, local players have had chances which I really enjoyed"

The knives are out for IU and the comment about it being on sale is ominous.

Looks pretty cheap, weak and sore looserish from the IU owners if they decide to sell the team just based on one season they failed to qualify in. Look at LQ in comparison who have been the Butt of everyone's jokes in the past 5 years finishing last in every season but the owners stuck by their team and now they are in the playoffs finally

Akhtar and his theories. Just because a team doesn’t qualify doesnt mean that nobody is interested and its up for sale. Its a weird logic to base it upon.

By that logic maybe QG is also up for sale if they dont qualify?

Yes. He doesn't like Misbah or Sarfaraz so win-win :))

Now Misbah will force to coach KK by removing Dean Jone with the help of Professional Khan.

Maybe he should buy the franchise. They could do with a tagra and badmaash owner who will not tolerate Misbah’s defensive approach.

Shoaib is probably chatting nonsense as usual, but we shouldn’t rule out the possibility after 5 seasons.

Certain owners might lose interest or look towards new investments etc.

The United owners seem a bit detached as well and are not particularly interesting in building a brand unlike Javed Afridi.

Definitely cant rule out the possibility but will have to wait for the statements from someone close to them or credible journalists I guess.

Why did they have to fix something that wasn't broken.
Dean Jones should not have been replaced.

It is fairly obvious they were coerced by the PCB.

Misbah wanted the job and was perhaps not interested in the Kings’ position because of his familiarity with United or maybe they said no to behind closed doors, but it is very hard to believe that United decided to get rid of Dean Jones without any outside influence/pressure.

They literally had zero reasons to part ways with him.

Misbah seems to be getting big jobs on demand. The amount of power he holds over Mani and Wasim is hilarious.

IU needs a shake-up from top to bottom.

They seem to be an outdated set-up using tactics and players from a few years ago.

Get rid of the dead-wood analysts, players and coaching staff.

One thing to note is that Islamabad United was the only franchise bought by an investment house with a mandate to generate returns.

Every other team was bought by the owner/CEO of a big organization and it was primarily their plaything and a way for publicity rather than actual economic returns.

So Akhtar may actually be right and the investment house may be looking to exit their investment soon.

I don't think that is the case.

My belief is that Misbah has been a part of IU since the beginning. Before the previous season, due to his complete lack of performances, it was agreed with the management that Misbah would transition over to a coaching role seamlessly, similar to how Saeed Ajmal did. Not the head coach, but one of the coaching staff. Misbah initially agreed but last minute entered into the player auction after arranging something with PZ in the background.

It just so happened that PZ made the final while IU didn't. So after the season, Misbah went to the IU management and somehow arranged to become their head coach. This was before the Pak coach / selector was finalised.

When the ridiculous process for removing and replacing Mickey was happening, Misbah made it very clear that he would take this selector /coach role, but would not give up the IU coaching role that he had secured. I believe Wasim Khan said that this would be beneficial for Pakistan as it Misbah would 'learn on the job'.

So no, I don't think the PCB coerced IU. I think they bought into the Misbah hype and were led to believe he is the reason for their previous success and not Deano. Lesson learned I guess.

Can't really put allegations without any proof. Yes he wanted the IU job. But it had been circling around for a long time even before he was hired as Pak coach and selector.
But they should not have let go of Dean. And for some reason Dean isn't liked by PCB. He applied twice for coaching job for Pak, but was given a cold shoulder both times.
Quite possibly dean wanted 2 pakistani batters and in top 4 but analysts and other wanted foreign batters in that position based on stats, which was reasonable as we didn't have 2 reliable batters for top 4.

Plus it also goes to show how Mickey was not a good t20 coach. He was good in ODIs as he helped our lot to finally get out of that get 240 odd and pray for bowling to get us out of trouble.

hes an absolute ****** who wants pindi to become a team over bias being born and raised there.

Whenver these ex-players say something on the media 9 out of 10 times they have an agenda behind it. Few days ago Shoaib mentioned in his vlog that he would love someone to have a team in Rawalpinidi to compete these IU. He is basically eyeing someone with $$$ to invest and buy a team next season ahd so he can play a role in it like some other cricketers are doing it and making money. You remove foreigner batsmen from every franchise and they will be struggling.

If you keep playing Asif Ali, Faheem Ashraf, Amad Butt etc you are going to struggle and get found out sooner rather than later.

Ridiculous team combinations and tactics.

Eventually they picked Zafar Gohar when it was too late.
