Sarfaraz Ahmed speaking at a press conference after the match :

"Sri Lanka played better cricket than us"

"We lacked in batting and none of our players' played a big innings which cost us"

"All credit to the Sri Lanka bowlers, especially their spinners"

"The thinking today was to play positive cricket and to rotate the strike"

"This was my first series as a Test captain and it was tough as the requirements for a Test captain are different from other formats"

"Winning the toss is important when playing matches in Asia, but even then we came close to winning in both Tests"

"If more of us had played the type of innings Asad played, then we could have done better in the series"

"We cannot say that we had problems due to openers as even when they gave us a good start we still did not capitalize as no one could play a long innings"

"We wanted to use Azhar Ali in the middle order as we wanted to make it stronger"

"We could not convest the 50s to 100s and did not have big partnerships"

"We did play a practice match in Lahore so it would not be right to say we did not prepare well"

"We did not play fast enough at the start of the 2nd innings"

"Asad and I thought that if we played attacking cricket then we could get ourselves out if this situation"

"We did our homework on all bowlers including Rangana Herath"

"Babar Azam is a talented players and I accept his performances in Tests have not been that good but it is too soon to write him off"

"Babar Azam needs to be backed so that he can put in good performances for Pakistan in the future"

"We didnt play 2 spinner as we felt that we had some good fast-bowlers in the shape of Mohammad Amir and Hasan Ali"

"Our batting was the main difference rather than our bowling"

"We did not take the Sri Lankans lightly"

"Sami Aslam made some mistakes but he is young and hopefully he will make amends and comeback to the team again"

"There is pressure on me as I have lost a Test series but I will try and ignore that as we have a good record in ODIs"

Asad Shafiq :

"The ball was new and regardless of the time of the day, it will move more in the first 10 overs"

"We had planned overnight that we would have to tackle the fast-bowlers with the new ball but unfortunately that plan did not work"

"If this partenership between Sarfaraz and I had been prolonged a bit then the result would have been different"

"My last few innings were not that good but I was more positive when I came to play this innings"

"I was attacking from the start because these quality bowlers will not give you easy runs"

"When the team management asked me where I felt comfortable playing, I said number 4"

"Due to the big gap in Tests, I could not prepare as well for Tests I would have hoped for"

Woww Sarfaraz doing what Afridi did for Umar Akmal and prolonged his stay in the Pakistan team which eventually was disaster for Pakistan cricket.

I have been defending Sarfaraz Ahmed for sometime, if he believes that this crap Babar Azam deserve to be given more chances than Sarfaraz also does'nt deserve to be captain. Don't need a captain who cares more for an Akmal than a win.

you serious bro?

Too early to write him off, yes. But too early to have him in the team also. He needs to grind hard in the domestic circuit before he is considered again. Otherwise these performances will eventually catch up with his limited overs ability and we could potentially end up losing a batting prodigy because of the mental blocks that he creates with poor test performances

Feel bad for Sarfaraz but he has shown himself to be a good learner.

Man, Shafiq looks sick with that beard. New smilie required : badboy

Knee jerk post.

Yes he has been pathetic so far because we know what he is capable of. But that doesnt mean he is "crap" like you mentioned.

Babar is a better prospect than any newcomer in past 10 years. He needs to be invested in. He will come good.

Yes and a big example is of CT 17 when Pakistan was completely written off he still had the belief.

I am confident that he will turn it around in upcoming matches.

Great to see captain supporting his young player.

Way to go Sarfraz.

It's too soon for him to be in the test team.

Very Sad to learn that Shan Masood’s father, is a member of the Board of Governors at the PCB.
That is why Shan Masood keeps playing for Pakistan without performing. his average now stands at less than 24. Ahmed Shahzad who averages more than 40 & was in form, had his selection blocked just for this Shan Masood. Pakistan was already struggling with form of Babar Azam & unestablished Sami aslam. Do we really need Shan Masood??
Why don't no one talks about it? All these experts that come on TV and Journalists that write about Cricket. Don't they see how Merit is being killed? Can't they simply look up a players stats to see, where Shan Masood's average stands?
Babar Azam is not performing but at least he performed in Limited overs cricket so we had to give hiom a chance. What has Shan done? Why is PCB destroying Test cricket, Why not Try Shan in T20 or ODI

A batting average of 23 is around about what Wasim Akram had ?? would you play wasim Akram as specialist batsman in tests??

Well said. Was shocked Sarfraz didn't open his mouth about Shan but Sami. He even said Sami will make a comeback, so have they already planned to axe Sami aslam now to retain Shan. Good luck pak with Andersons bunny in England.

Akmals don't have temperament to play test. Shorter format suits them most

Good that he did not bash any youngster.

Babar is not ready for tests yet. Need a couple of FC sessions before he makes a comeback.

What did you want him to say?

"Yes, Babar stinks and I don't want him on my team."

There isn't a single captain in the world who would do that. You never put young players under the bus for a loss. Either dump the blame on yourself or attribute it to a team-wide failure.

Babar needs at least a few years in domestics. His game towards spin is rubbish nor does he have temperament to be a test player

sarfraz is right. Babar could be a good Test bat one day but for now he needs to go back to domestic and learn the art of batting in FC Cricket.

Babar Azam averages 35 in domestic first class, and 50 in List A.

Clearly an LoI batsman.
