The PCB has not renewed Tim Nielson's contract, he was the high performance manager of the red ball side and Gillespie's number two. Gillespie is extremely frustrated by the lack of communication, support from the PCB. The PCB had asked him to take up the team's white ball coaching but were expecting him to agree to the same salary that he was getting as red ball coach.

It is clear the PCB is frustrating Gillespie to the point he chooses to resign himself which means the severance the PCB will have to pay him will be much lower whereas if the PCB axes him themselves, they will have to pay him all the amounts he is owed including severance up to 2026.
