"Junaid Khan's bowling action is questionable" : Basit Ali [#82]

Basit Ali should not have said that all ... look at this kids age , education , background ... and then consider what a statement like this can do to him .

Basit Ali has just pressurized Junaid . I fear that in order to look legal he will change his action which can cut his capabilities as no genuine fast bowler can adjust with new action in days .
or Junaid can just shrug and say "Basit who?"

why are so many people having a go at Basit Ali?

Junaid's action does look dodgy!

let's just hope it's nothing, as we all haven't seen enough of him, and probably won't get to before the WC.

we will get to the bottom of this issue, Inshallah :)

Saj bhai to the rescue!

Why does he need to say this? Can't help the guy's confidence.

If his action is touch and go (which it seems to be), it is the umpires' job to bring that forward. :murali

If his arm in the above pic is bend then I need to see a doctor...

yes but a fraction second ago it was, pls see that doctor

LOL at those having a go at Basit. Would you rather find out about it now or in front of a million cameras when umpires ask him to stop bowling? If his action isn't clean (it does "look" dodgy), then - sorry to break it to you - he'll be reported and asked not to bowl. Basit or Taufel - the result will be the same.

I really hope Waqar takes notice and get a chance to work on the kid.

Let us say that:

1. Junaid gets a ban for illegal action

2. And Shoaib is unfit

Who are going to be their possible replacements?

I hope it does not happen, but still team managements should be ready to face any type of challenges.

They should definitely draft in Shahzaib.

You can bend it as long as when you are releasing it, is straight.

that's wrong, that is called straightening. you can bend a little, but need to keep it in the same position when releasing. i.e. keep the elbow angle constant for about a semi circle, i suppose that the rule says.

if junaid is a chucker our ageing speedstar legend is one of the biggest

he has hyperextension but to alot of you guys that is ruled out when it comes to junaid khan :14:

more examples from other players who are household names

His action is clean, even is they is a kink (and I dontt hink there is) it is way less than the 17 degrees of whatever the allowance is. Basit Ali should be ashamed of himself.

Mohammad Sami will come back for the 1000th time then.

So, anyone who watched him live...what do you think; are there any issues with his action?

I hate it when some seniors n gud ex cricketers talks stupid things like this?

what does this even meant? Y tell ICC of something they don even know/ this is ridiculous stuff from ex players. not good stuff at all and i wish n hope JUNAID gets to play the WC without any problems.

Bump

What a muppet.
Rameez asked the GREAT Michael Holding (an expert on Fast bowling as opposed to this loony tune) do you see any problems with his run up/action.

Holding was full of praise for him citing a nice relazed approach to the crease, good action and was impressed by his front foot pointing straight when landed.

Why would Basit say thing in the first place ?? Support the Pakistan bowlers, if they can do that then dont bother adding your two pence to the media...

Junaid’s action is suspect, says Basit

KARACHI: Former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali believes that the national team`s young pace bowler, Junaid Khan will soon land into trouble over his bowling action.

“There is a problem with his bowling action and there is a visible jerk when he bowls. The selectors should have seen this before picking him in the side,” Basit said on Friday.

Basit, who played 19 Tests and 50 One-day Internationals, said that Junaid`s bowling action would soon be reported by match officials in the ongoing series in the West Indies. —Agencies

I have the same feeling about his action. Remember, players like Shoaib Akhtar was also targeted for suspect action in the past. Let's hope Junaid Khan action gets cleared. His bowling is decent.

he looks average, that's my first impression...but he must be given 10 games to prove himself.

if they do report it, so be it, why does basit have to persist in trying to goad controversy?

If im not wrong, Da silva was telling Bishoo something about his arm as well in the match. Anyone else notice it??

michael holding had nothing bad to say about it - who is a legend

basit does on the other hand have problems - who is basit ali again and im being honest lol

Maybe Basit Ali knows more about bowling than the great fast bowler Michael holding. He was a batsman for Pakistan but didn't play many matches and he wasn't special enough to be remembered by cricket fans

His action seemed fine.

No one commented on it during the game. Not even Holding when he was assessing his bowling. We all know Holding is never afraid to speak his mind.

Nothing looks wrong with the action, but nothing much spectacular in his bowling either...

thanks lipton and sameer...was wondering...must have been unimpressive if i havent even heard of him...

his opinion is hence...unimpressive and uneeded and a blatant attempt to get some limelight/stir up some controversy

Having seen him bowl I'd say he does straighten his arm but he actually does it earlier than he delivers the bowl , hence gets no bumb up in speed .... I am no expert of the Rule but i dont think he would be banned by the icc as the straighting is very less and it occurs before he delivers the bowl [ and he has an awesome wrist position ;) hits the seam straight on, could be the next asif ]

Actually he had a kink his action few years ago, I think he was reported for that too in domestic cricket?

thankfully, he has cleared it now so there is no problem.

LOL his action is fine, whilst on topic was watching WI V NZL and Kyle Mills looks like he is proper chucking it.

his action has def been refined since he first started. so must have cleared his "jerk"

I first thought the same when I saw him bowl a few times, but I thought it was just me. I guess not. He may be ok according to the 15 or 16 degree rule or whatever but his arm is not perfectly straight, that's for sure.

When ever, I repeat when ever a pakistani bowler bowls well either the question about his action or balltampering appeares.

And when the indians or english are quite some of our own comes up with this.

his action is quite angular and a bit awkward, and like others i too thought he had a bit of a kink when i saw him in domestic a few years ago but it does look clean now. good for him.

Bump!!

One of the posters in other thread mentioned his action is illegal/suspect.
I think it is fine and there is no elbow bend. Basit on a crack in his comment before WC2011.

2 and half years later, we can safely say Basit was wrong. Even he will admit it himself.

Statistics375 did a detail analysis of action of current left arm fast bowlers Junaid has the most straightish arm . This is the particular post

http://www.pakpassion.net/ppforum/sh...25&postcount=8

and this is the thread

http://www.pakpassion.net/ppforum/sh...d.php?t=185913

He might look bit awkward because of his use of wrist for getting late swing is more visible.

Both the URLs don't work. Can you provide a link of that analysis please? would love to read it and show it to some anti-Pak posters doubting his action in the Vitori thread.

Just wondering, has Junaid's action been sorted now?

He's never been reported previously so I guess the umpires never really saw anything amiss. Better get Ian Gould on the case.

PCB should assess Junaid's action before he plays next Int'l game.

If there are any questions, it should be dealt asap. I am sure Waqar can fix any kinks in Junaid's bowling action if he suspects anything wrong.

It depends on whether an umpire has previously reported him I would think. Is Basit Ali giving his opinion enough grounds to have a concern? If there is something wrong with his action why has it not been picked before now?

Umpires seems to have become a lot stricter these days. It would be a huge blow if some umpire rports Junaid's action after the 1st match in WC. PCB has enough bowling legends working for them to watch Juniad's bowling action again and fix( if they feel anything is wrong).

It isn't the cleanest action tbh, he has a kinked elbow, how much it straightens though, not sure.

I for one see nothing wrong with his action. See the links amax posted in post 145.

Not sure his loss would make a huge difference to the Pakistani set up if he was ever found guilty of chucking

no biggie tbh
Junaid was the talk of 2013, thats pretty much it and his omission won't be as impacting as say Hafeez' or Ajmal's.

Junaid's action does look a little jerky, but i think it is in the limits, wont be surprised though if he gets reported

Only noticed it now, his action seems very dubious.

Won't be surprised in the slightest if he is reported during this series.

I just saw him bowling his first ball of the 45th over.

And, goodness me! How can you get away with that in international cricket? You guys need to watch that ball!
Mamoon did you see that?

I'm glad it's not just me that noticed this!

It's really dodgy, I swear it wasn't like this before. Has his action deteriorated?
