"Just because Hassan Ali dropped a catch shouldn't mean you get hit for 3 sixes" : Shahid Afridi
Shahid Afridi speaking on TV:
"I am not happy with Shaheen Shah Afridf as just because Hassan Ali dropped a catch does not mean that in the next over you get hit for 3 sixes; You have so much pace and you should have had enough sense to bowl outside the off-stump, a yorker - as he bowled into Wades preferred area; I will say that Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled badly; Yes, the catch was spilled but it doesn't mean that you will give up as you can make a comeback also"
"First of all, I would like to congratulate both New Zealand and Australia for reaching the Final of the ICC T20 World Cup. I have always said that fielding has a 70-75% contribution in any win. Even Australia shelled two catches during Pakistan's innings so there was an issue with fielding there too. And it happened to Pakistan also when in such a tight situation, the catch was dropped and then those 3 sixes were hit as well - the scenario of the game changed completely due to that"
"I always say that when Pakistan will strengthen their fielding, that is the day Pakistan will win the match"
"I believe we missed a huge opportunity and such chances of success come rarely in our lives - we had 9/10 players who had not played in an ICC T20 World Cup before and in a sense this was the Final for us as I always believed that we would have won against New Zealand"
"I feel that this image of Hassan Ali dropping the catch will be replayed forever"
"Australian batters have been brought up on pace and they come ready to face fast-bowling; If you see the game, Australian batters struggled against slower deliveries but not against pace - they themselves wanted pace on the ball and it didn't matter if it was the first or last ball of the over; They showed us that we as Australian players are mentally strong - they bided their time to the end even when it looked like the target was a tough one but there was no sign of panic on their faces; Both the not out batters knew had belief in their own strengths and were waiting for the right opportunity"
"Fakhar Zaman was positive from the first ball of his innings, he didn't decide to take a few singles to get himself in, he went on to play his natural game the moment he came in; You could tell from his face that he had come with he intention of not fearing anyone and he will go for his shots if the ball is in the right area for him; This is the sort of approach which was needed, this is his talent and the reason why he in the Pakistan side and this is what will benefit Pakistan"
"Apart from 2-3 balls, wherever Shadab Khan bowled was excellent. He had a good plan which was a simple wicket to wicket bowling which is what I had always advised him to do on good pitches, whether in the sub-continent or elsewhere"
"In terms of Hassan Ali's body language, I would say that yes you maybe struggling with your bowling but you cannot stand in the ground with a sad face and wait for a miracle; If you drop your shoulders like this then at crucial moments your performance will be effected; If Hassan had taken that catch, people would have forgotten about the fact that he didn't bowl well in the previous over and this is why you, as a player, have to avail of such opportunities and lift yourself up. This is a big lesson to be learnt, and we have a good Team Management who need to tackle this problem before the next T20 World Cup which will be upon us very soon"
"The message that our cricket stars have now sent to the world with their recent performances must clear now; They refused to tour Pakistan based upon a fake email and they must have realized now where that fake email came from and hopefully their mind would have changed"
"A few players should be rested for the series versus Bangladesh - we have Iftikhar Ahmed, Usman Qadir and Haider Ali - lets give them a chance by benching a few senior player and don't worry about what will happen if we lose to Bangladesh - just think about our own benefit in the long term; Even Dahani needs a chance"
"Overall, the whole of Pakistan is happy and satisfied with the performance of our team. The team performed well and the fans are particularly happy because we defeated India and broke the losing streak to India in ICC World Cups"
