Justin Trudeau in India: Is the Canadian PM being cold-shouldered?

This is your contribution in this thread?

Me hurt? On the contrary, the world is seeing what Modi truly is. A right wing terrorist sympathiser who doesn't care about the minority (Sikh and Muslim) votes.

:)
:))) :)))
Do you even know the present CM of Punjab Captain Amrinder Singh(who's from Congress) refused to meet Canadian defence minister last year because of his alleged involvement with Khalistanis and here you are painting Modi (who's from BJP) as Anti Sikh leader with no basis whatsoever .
LMAO

So Modi is taking lead from a CM.

Wow. Talk about following orders, suit, and protocol, from a lower ranked official.

It now makes sense!

Clearly you know zilch about how politics works in Subcontinent. Not surprising though. Keep up the good work.

Nominal terms:

India GDP: $2.44 Trillion
Canada GDP: $1.64 Trillion

PPP terms:

India GDP: $9.45 Trillion
Canada GDP: $1.76 Trillion

Difference in 2030 will be massive

Canada population 30-40million, India population 1500 million

:salute

Justin seems like a nice guy however India only respects guys like Trump and Netanyahu.

This makes it worse. Modi was not meant to meet Netanyahu at the airport, but BROKE protocol, and decided to surprise him instead.

Something about building walls.

My love and respect for Modi ji grows. Netanyahu ji is a friend of India and deserves every bit of respect. Who the hell is trudeau?

This is hardly a news in Canada that our PM was 'Snubbed'

Being a Canadian of Indian origin, I can say Trudeau do comes across very apologetic and tries hard to pleased every community, which is actually very sensible thing to do in society like Canada. But his support towards Sikhs who have in past created Khalistan movement will not go down well with Indian Govt and media. Leaders of both nations should swallow the hard pill and allow mutual respect and cooperation. Canada and India both can grow hand in hand. If Im not wrong, India signed deal with Saskatchewan for purchase of nuclear materials. What both countries need is long term cooperation and strategic alliance.

:)

The world doesnt end with pakistanis.

In general, yes but not in terms of leadership. This is the age of alpha leaders like Trump, Putin, Jingping, Modi, Netanyahu etc who tend to sniff out the weaklings in a second.

I agree, modis clingy sgt peppers lonely hearts club hugs exudes alpha

Canada and India ever since the bombing have always had trust issues, the only reason two countries deal with each other is because of so many Indian immigrants there.

Things were improving during Harper, even though he was restricting immigration, but w.r.t Justin most Indian citizens love his liberal bias,my parents love him as well but Indian government rightfully doesn't trust him.

Its easy to preach with such a huge country ,so many resources and such tiny population.

Canadians of Indian origin loves Justin Trudeau. I am very surprised that Indian government hate him instead.

Trudeau is all drama. The worst PM - and I regret I gave him my vote in 2015. He bends his backward to please every community. And under his watch thousands of illegal people crossed into Canada from US. And this guy goes on Twitter saying everyone is welcome after Trump slapped Muslims/Mexicans.

Sheridan, Humber, Seneca, George Brown, and Centennial College which are some of Ontario's largest colleges where literally pulled out of debt by international students coming from Punjab. Its funny how some posters here think Canada is doing a favour to open their borders to Indians. Its Pakistanis and Somalis that come on over with their 10 kids collecting welfare and child benefits.

Lol what did Justin ever do to get so many indians butt hurt? Canada has a large Sikh population, winning the Sikh vote may not be decisive but it helps any party that is looking to win an election. Trudeau has to respect the wishes of Sikh Canadians over that of a foreign government.

Are you going to vote Conservative in 2019?

I never knew Canadian colleges as a whole were in debt

Conservatives are always better than the fake liberals whose idea of progressive society is appeasement for all and having instagram account where they can show off their ethnic wear and LGBT pride march.

Are you familiar with Stephen Harper's Conservatives?

No, not familiar with his views. From a scale of trudeau to trump, how good is he?

He was a decent PM in my opinion, served for about 9.5 years before his party ran an absolutely horrible election campaign resulting in Trudeau's win

Has nothing to do with this visit in particular, but I get the feeling that Justin Trudeau is all plastic and PR, propped up by the media and people close to him.

Think Rahul Gandhi and scale him to the extreme. Very little substance in such 'politicians'.

Trudeau comes off as very plastic and fake as Varun says

comes across as weak

as for topic - Dont think it matters

Canada is largely irrelevant in international arena and has little influence on major geopolitical events.

If a country has decent terms with the US they normally have Canada in their pocket

Dont think Modi would be losing sleep over upsetting him

Finally, someone talking common sense..

Also No one really gives a jack about Khalistani movements in India, they just cant impact India as Indian Sikhs are more patriotic than any other Indians in India, case closed. Pakistanis need to stop getting carried away, NO Punjab wont break away from India and become Khalistan, & Kashmir will always be part of India, stop wasting your energy and Allah is not coming to liberate the Palestinians with divine intervention, move on with your lives...

Its also true that the Khalistan movement is truly well and alive in North America esp Canada so it wont ever die off completely due to funding it gets from overseas.

Also Kashmir isnt part of India. Either literally or by international law. Internationally it is deemed as 'disputed' and in reality Pakistan holds a portion of it and India holds the other portion.

Lets just get the whole facts out there

Khalistan movement may be well and alive outside of India but no one in India takes it seriously enough to consider it a threat to break away from India... Sikhs outside of India can live whichever way they want it doesn't affect India.

On to Kashmir, you know as well as I and the whole world know; Indian Kashmir will always remain under Indian control, you can give me a 1000 reasons on why things may change 'someday' in the future but nothing will convince me otherwise... For the sake of argument if you feel Indian Kashmir will be Pakistan's one day, well then so be it, whatever makes you sleep better at night...

Appearances aren't as important as policy and that's where Trudeau's progressive credentials fall down. Trudeau reminds me of our neighbour from across the Channel Emmanuel Macron.

They are "half progressives" like Bill Clinton and Tony Blair - they'll talk a good game on social issues but economically they'll make accomodations to the big banks, approve trade deals that hurt domestic industries and pay lip service to inequality. They turned their back on the working class constituencies the US Democratic and UK Labour Parties were rooted in for decades then act surprised these working class voters then voted for Trump and Brexit.

Trudeau has approved major fossil fuel projects which has led to a backlash from environmentalists, reneged on a promise to close a tax loophole for wealthy executives and has approved his predecessor's healthcare funding formula.

Sanders and Corbyn have shown the stark difference between these two wings of liberalism, and that you can run popular campaigns as a real progressive.

These fake Namaste poses are so annoying. How do Canadians tolerate this drama queen is beyond me.

tbh you dont know how these two would react in a position of power

its likely they would compromise on their principles as well

Bet he wouldn't have done it in a hypothetical world without cameras or social media. ;)

Like I keep saying, he's all vanilla PR. The politico equivalent of a manufactured Taylor Swift pop album.

Don't know why so many Indians are hating on Trudeau :))

You should be thanking him, his government opened up the doors for immigrants after they had been bolted shut by Harper, and the biggest beneficiary of this move have been Indians. For Canada, Trudeau isn't the best and I dare say he won't be re-elected next time. He is more show than substance.

Well that's what we're saying. It's a valid opinion - even if we don't have the insight that the everyday Canadian has.

I mean he is still better than the buffon down south.

I mean he is still better than the buffon down south.

You won't know either way because you don't know Trudeau at all - the folks around him have sculpted his persona with crystal clear precision and that's what you're fed. With Trump, it's all unleashed, be it on his Twitter, in a press conference, or the decisions he takes day to day. It's pure him. Raw.

It's hardly a like-for-like comparison.

He's showing respect to your culture, stop being so arrogant.

With the PM position, there comes some responsibility. He is making a joke of it by acting like a weirdo. Good for the Canadians if he is doing something right for their country.

Our PM's PR team is the best. They have raised him to a position of a saint who can do nothing wrong.

Probably in the top-5, but there are better ones around. Trudeau clearly, another one is that Sheikh of Dubai. Biggest scamball ever.

Unlike Modi, Trudeau tries too hard to please others and it'so obvious. The lesser said about the Sheikh's, the better.

How much coverage is Canadian PM getting in India? Here in Canada local news channels are hardly giving any coverage, just the usual 3mins or so on News for signing up $1B deal.

Heck Cp24 were more into Bollywood stars meeting Canadian delegate than Canadian PM.

Gets the odd mention on the ticker. His Taj visit garnered some photos.

I don't reckon there's anything earth shattering announced / signed unlike when Netanyahu came over, so fair's fair.

Not much really. They have pushed him to the non relevant middle pages.
Oh but you should have seen the newspapers when Netanyahu visited. Even liberal ones like The Hindu jumped the bandwagon.

Trudeau ignored as India rolls out red carpet for Trump’s son

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/...rolls-out-red-carpet-for-trumps-son-zr0v6v36x

The visit by President Trump’s son to India was heralded by a blanket advertising campaign in the local press and eager investors bidding tens of thousands of pounds for an audience at dinner. The Canadian prime minister, by stark contrast, was met at the airport by a lone junior minister.

Donald Trump Jr’s trip is intended to promote a Trump Towers high-rise development near Delhi and has moved Narendra Modi to cleared time in his diary to meet the scion of America’s first family.

Newspapers have run breathless, full-page advertisements asking, “Trump is here — are you invited?” Potential buyers have shelled out almost £30,000 for dinner and a chat with the president’s son. Controversially, Mr Trump Jr will make a foreign policy speech on Indo-American relations at a conference on Friday, alongside Mr Modi, despite the White House insisting the visit is “unofficial”.

------------------

Trump sends his son and Modi clears time, and dishes out the red carpet.

Couldn't make it up.

He's still miles better than Islamophobic predecessor we had (Stephen Harper) and his replacement for the Conservatives (right wing party and 2nd biggest in Canada) is not much better. I'd likely vote for Trudeau or Jagmeet Singh (leader of the 3rd biggest party in Canada and left wing) in 2019.

ABC (Anyone but the Conservatives).

The Khalistan question is an interesting one.
For me personally as a Sikh,Bhindrawale is a mass murderer same as Rajiv Gandhi and Modi.

However, was in a taxi in Melbourne recently and my taxi driver who was a Sikh and I got talking. He turned out to be a Bhindrawale sympathizer and it was interesting how he had the same excuses for Bhindrawale as Modi supporters have for Modi.

You go Amritsar and Bhindravale sympathizers are dime a dozen there. Sure the movement is dead in Punjab but Bhindravale still commands respect among majority of Sikhs even though the guy literally sat above Akal Takht when army was clearing the premises.

That said, the Indians should have shown him a bit more respect. Simply because he’s the representative of the Canadian state which is an important business partner for a india.

India is more important to Canada as a business partner than Canada is to India.

Trudeau is a bit of a fool. His latest antic is pandering to a gathering of feminists by asking them to say "peoplekind" rather than "mankind".

Not to say that the Canadian conservative party is any better.

Don't get the big deal about it. Canada beyond being a hub for Khalistan sympathisers is of very little import to india, it does not feature anywhere in top 20 trade partners of india which includes likes of venezuela and belgium, Trudeau is here trying to drum up business investment from india so i don't see why Modi can't set the terms.

Modi welcomed Obama breaking protocol, yet when it came to actually supporting his Paris accord, India didn't budge until it extracted its pound of flesh from Americans.

Trudeau is basically a slimy politician who has the advantage of being good looking and being compared with the human **** spreading machine that is its southern border country's president. He is a jerk who will support climate change then cozy up with big oil. He calls for free borders and welcomes refugees then sells weapons to Saudi Arabia. He is far worse than trump, with trump atleast all his rubbish is out in open.

This aptly sums up India's current strong standing and its ability to dictate terms.

On one hand, Canadian PM is getting khajal on streets of India, and here even if some phateechar player like Sammy agrees to visit us, we can't contain our excitement...

He is just reflecting the liberal mindset and culture of western society in general, and his country in particular. No doubt India can teach Canadians a lot about treatment of minorities and women's rights. Perhaps he will use this visit to learn some civilising culture from the east which he can take back with him to the west.

Its easy to preach when you have 1/10th of population and 3 times more land, and not even one fourth of different religions and not any conquered invasions past not many years ago ,and more than double of resources oresenr.
I bet no other country in the whole planet could have sustain like india given all the factors and olus if we take past factor as well.we are really proud to be indians.

I wasn't preaching, I was just appreciating the Indian member viewpoints ridiculing Canada PM's views on their minority population and women.

Your actions speak louder than your words. If Liberal mindset means tolerating Sikh right wing extremism because it gets you votes then one of us is very much mistaken about what liberal mindset means. It's easy to say people kind rather than mankind but a bit more difficult to ask your vote base to pipedown on extremism.

His whole visit is basically a pandering to Indian expats in Canada, he is here for a week but it includes 1 day or may be half a day of actual government to government talks. It's mostly visiting Gujrat and Punjab none of that will get him what he has allegedly come to India for unless he is basically spending Canadian exchequer money to score brownie points with base at home.

Poor move from india.it will end up only sensitizing the world community about "khalisthan",1984 massacre etc.

Oh Canada, you wouldn't have to deal with such things if you would just join the good ole USofA!

Become our 51st state :)
