It's painful to watch him bat in the format.

He eats up balls and then throws his wicket away after wasting 3-6 overs of balls @ a strike rate of less than 60..

Tonight he wasted 21 balls and scored 8 runs @ a SR of 38

I read NZ scoreboard and while looking at Williamson's knock got confused whether it's an ODI or a T20 Match.

If he were a team player he would drop himself.

Oh my lord...
Have a look at his record, he hasn't score more than 30 in 2 years (excluding Bangladesh) :)))

Yes, guy should retire from T20Is and Focus on Test (which they play once in a decade) and ODIs.
NZ has to play more Tests for Kane to be considered as a very good bat in Tests otherwise looking at how many Test matches they play, Kane will be another nobody in international cricket who will probably be a County Legend

But then who cares about T20s?

He shouldn't be playing this format because he is useless here.

If only he and management would realize this.

A random fan in the crowd would be more useful as he'd fluke a boundary or two, or he'd get out kick. Kane can do neither.

Meh, that's been apparent for a while. Kane ain't finishing an all time great, he'll fall well short. He'll definitely finish as a NZ great, but he's not going to surpass Guptill or Taylor in ODI's or Crowe in Tests.

I see what you mean but imo he needs a break from playing t20s. should go back to leagues and domestic. He's a class player and still has time on his side. a player of his class shouldn't find it too hard to score big in t20s provided he is in the right headspace

I have no idea how he got a IPL contract, don't IPL teams have scouts who watch international cricket? :)))

He was rubbish in the CPL too.

it's just not his format, he needs to retire before everyone realizes it and he's pushed out.

It is never easy to throw out one of the major cricketing figure of the country from the playing XI even if it is a T20. There will always be arguments like he got this many runs at this avg and is the central part of the team and all those stuffs without looking at the context and situation of the match.

However, I am sure there are much better batters in NZ than Kane in the T20s format.

The fans want him gone lol, it's not like there's any sentiment. Kane isn't some big star in NZ where people are defending him, everyone knows if the team is to improve he needs to go.

Then there is no point keeping him in T20s. If he was a subcontinental figure, it would have been very hard to throw him out of the playing XI because he would have been treated as a superstar.

The selectors are backing him as much as possible and hoping he turns things around, but the fans gave up on him a few series ago, if not the one before I think the Pakistan series was enough to convince the majority. Probably a series or two left before he gets the tap on the shoulder.

T20 is a joke cricket.

Having said that, KW is a quality batsman and I won't be surprised if he scores a 100 in a T20 to troll his critics :yk

PS: KW > daylight > Hacks like Hafeez

Not the worst t20 player in the world but it's clear that he doesn't have the shot range for this format.

His recent performances haven't been that good but to call him the worst is far fetched.

Williamson is too "proper" for T20 cricket.... that being said 8(21) is inexcusable. If you are not finding the boundary the least you can do is keep rotating the strike

Threads like these makes me puke.... one day PP exports 'll put a player on seventh heaven and the next morning six feet under.

IF a player is having a bad run then he becomes the worse player ever to have played the game:salute

Well i remember similar knock from Yuvraj Singh (who is considered as one of the best t20 player) so it can happen but if that happens consistently then something is wrong with player.

Look at the stats above, he's been doing this for 2 years.

Strange stats for a player of his class. I personally wish he perseveres with the format but if he doesnt get better he will be booted out. But i imagine he is a team player and if he continues like this he will drop himself.

wow he is this bad. I saw him with Sunrisers in IPL. He did okay there. May be he is not able to seamlessly switch between formats like Kohli/Smith

That must be after he came back from Cancer. He was a shadow of his past unfortunately after his comeback.

True, but he played some good knock against pak and aus in t20 after comeback. He would have been legend now similar to what dhoni is.

I agree he is worst t20 batsman going around. He should quit t20s just not good enough. In Odis he is not any better way too overrated and should not be mentioned in so called fan 4

Yes despite Babar’s poor series.

He is comfortably a better ODI batsman than Kane and probably even Smith.
Both are pretty average tbh. I'd take Kane in ODI's, but Kane is not exactly word class either. In T20s both are poor, but I'd take Babar because Kane is hopeless.

I'd trade both for Gill in a heartbeat, that kid is on a different level.

Its loss of T20 cricket not kane's.
Why do Indians put Kane on a pedestal? Even NZders don't even treat him that well, there are a lot who buy into the hype of Ian Smith while most of the country doesn't even care and wouldn't even recognize him on the streets.

Both Kane and Smith are superior ODI batsmen than Babar.

Last CT, Kane averaged 80+ at 90+ SR. Scored 2 50s and a 100 in 3 matches he played. Babar averaged 44 at 74 in 5 matches with no 50s or 100s.

I won't even bother to do the comparison with Smith.

CT is not the end all be all.

What is their record in ODI's throughout 2017?

Who is Gill? :danish

His T20 record is not completely bad, considering NZ has so many dashers around him. The problem for him is when his dashers fail and he needs to force the pace. He did have one fantastic innings against England but I don't see him as a big hitter. He is surely not the worst though.

4 sixes off his last 4 deliveries.

Karn Sharma and Jadeja arent exactly poor spinners. Kane is a wonderful all weather all formats batsman.

He is gonna end up as a legend.

Lots of comments in the MT about how slow he has been today. He has been going at about 100 (for the most part) while his partners have been bashing away. His role is to rotate strike and later hit which I think is ok considering he is the only anchor player for NZ.

Kane Williamson has called time on his 93-game T20 International career and will miss the upcoming white-ball series against West Indies to focus on the three-Test series in December.

The 35-year-old retires as New Zealand’s second-highest men’s T20I runs-scorer with 2575 runs at an average of 33, including 18 50s and a highest score of 95.

Williamson, who made his T20I debut in 2011, captained the BLACKCAPS on 75 occasions - leading them to two ICC T20 World Cup semi-finals (2016 & 2022) and a final (2021).

Williamson said the timing felt right to step back from the shortest format.

“It’s something that I’ve loved being a part of for a long period of time and I’m so grateful for the memories and experiences,” he said.

“It’s the right time for myself and the team. It gives the team clarity for the series moving forward and ahead of their next major focus which is the T20 World Cup.

“There’s so much T20 talent there and the next period will be important to get cricket into these guys and get them ready for the World Cup.

“Mitch is a brilliant captain and leader - he’s really come into his own with this team.

“It’s now their time to push the BLACKCAPS forward in this format and I’ll be supporting from afar.”

Williamson’s next game will likely be for Northern Districts in their Plunket Shield second round clash against Auckland at Bay Oval in Tauranga, starting Wednesday November 26.

The BLACKCAPS all-time leading run-scorer said he was open minded about his ODI and Test future, with his immediate focus preparing for the three Test series against West Indies, which starts in Christchurch on December 2.

“I’ve got such deep care for this team,” he said.

“The BLACKCAPS is a special place and one you want to give yourself to and get the most out of yourself for. It’s a journey and a pursuit, and that’s what I love about the international game and this environment.

“I’ll continue to keep the lines of communication open with Rob and NZC who have given me a huge amount of support throughout.”

NZC CEO Scott Weenink said he respected Williamson’s decision and saluted his contributions to the T20 team.

“Kane’s performances as a player and his service as captain of the T20 side have been nothing short of immense,” he said.

“His runs in all conditions around the world reflect the world class batsman that he is and are equally matched by the influence of his leadership on and off the field.

“His knock of 85 in the T20 World Cup final was one of the more special T20I innings played by a New Zealander, albeit in a losing course.

“The T20 team experienced great consistency and success under Kane’s watch and he certainly leaves the team in good health.”

Weenink said Williamson had earned the right to decide how he finished his ODI and Test careers.

“We’ve made it clear to Kane he has our full support as he reaches the back end of his illustrious career,” he said.

“We would, of course, love to see him play for as long as possible, but there’s no doubt whenever he does decide to finally call time - he will go down as a legend of New Zealand cricket.

“With Kane committed to play the West Indies Test series in December, I’d encourage all Kiwis to take the opportunity to get out and witness one of our greatest ever cricketers play.”

Williamson will continue to play T20 franchise cricket.

Should have retired from this format 4 years ago.

I actually thought he had retired after 2024 T20 World Cup.
