RAWALPINDI: Peshawar Zalmi head coach *Moha*mmad Akram heaped praise on Mohammad Amir after the left-arm paceman played a huge role in Karachi Kings’ victory during the HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 fixture here on Monday night.

Amir wrecked Peshawar’s hopes with brilliant analysis of 4-25 in a man-of-the-match performance, which Akram rated one of the best spells he had seen in T20 cricket.

“I thought Amir made the difference with those four wickets. He was unplayable upfront as well at the death. Rarely do we get to see bowling of that class and when produces a performance like that then it is mighty tough for the batting team to release the pressure,” Akram told reporters before a practice session at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

“I don’t lay fingers on anyone but it wasn’t our day. All credit to Karachi Kings playing very good cricket and they obviously deserved this victory.”

Akram downplayed the absence of regular Peshawar Zalmi Darren Sammy — the official word from the franchise was that the former two-time ICC World Twenty20 Cup-winning captain of the West Indies had been rested — while saying being professionals each and every player is paid to do a decent job.

“Look it doesn’t matter who plays or not. I’ve got 18 players under my charge and each one of them gets paid for playing and that’s why we call them professionals. It is part of cricket if someone is out-of-form and you replace him with someone who is doing well.

“The captain was respectfully told that he should take a break and practice for two days to be considered for the next match [against holders Quetta Gladiators on Thursday].

“There is no doubt in my mind that Darren has been an integral part of the Peshawar Zalmi team and there was no animosity among us [to drop him against Karachi Kings] because it was a professional decision which I had to take as head coach. He understood this very well.

“I’m sure Darren would come back stronger and train as hard as all players in our squad to be considered [for selection]. I don’t understand the buzz around the tweet [of Sammy] that went viral. Players are dropped in other leagues too but nobody beats the bush over them. So what is the fuss about?”

Focusing on the next match after Monday’s six-wicket loss to Karachi, Akram said: “We will be all out to bounce back, Insha’Allah. It’s still long way to go [in the tournament] and we aren’t far off coming good. It is just a matter of putting everything together and clicking as one unit.”

Meanwhile, Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi, batting mentor Hashim Amla and Sammy are slated to visit the PM House in Islamabad to have an audience with Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday.

We´re 16 matches into the tournament and Karachi are second on the table with three wins out of five, and I´m getting a strange feeling since yesterday that Karachi are winning this PSL.

Haha. Shukriya janaab. I´m myself a Multan supporter, but I wouldn´t mind Karachi winning it. My mother is a fan of Amir and hence Karachi. Also, I would love to see a new champion this time around.

Really coming into their own as the season is progressing. They have a bits and pieces captain, so it is safe to assume that the reason behind their success are Dean Jones and Wasim Akram. If only we had them as Pakistan coaching staff.

Karachi Kings’ all-rounder Aamer Yamin has been ruled out of the HBL PSL 2020 due to a hamstring injury and will be replaced by Waqas Maqsood, it was announced today.

The 29-year-old sustained the injury while bowling in his side’s fixture against Lahore Qalandars on Sunday. He has featured for Kings in three matches this season

Waqas, 32, previously turned out for Islamabad United in the 2019 edition, in which he played two matches

The replacement was approved by the event’s technical committee which includes PCB CEO Wasim Khan, Bazid Khan, Marina Iqbal, Sameer Khosa and Dr Sohail Saleem.

Waqas Maqsood isn't the worst choice but IMO an all rounder like Hammad Azam would have had made more sense.

Waqas Maqsood played 4 matches in national T20 cup with an economy of over 9. Maybe Deano is comfortable because he knows Maqsood from IU days.

I think Mohammad Imran who was the 2nd highest wicket taker in 2nd XI T20 tournament, is 23 years of age and if I am not wrong was emerging player for LQ as well last season but couldn’t get a game deserved a look. I am not exactly sure about his pace but if he even touches 140 kph it would have added variety to KKs attack which doesnt have anyone other than Jordan with pace of 140 kph plus.

If they needed bit of experience then I think Ehsan Adil could have been a good option. He did well in QAE 2019 and also was decent in 2nd xi T20 cup.

Imad Wasim at a presser:

"Lahore are playing well, they have made a good comeback and they have a good team combination.

"The way Ben Dunk played, you see very few innings like that and we should give him credit.

"We have plans and we'll try to execute them. The players are excited about the match at home tomorrow. We made a few mistakes but that doesn't mean you can write us off.

"We don't have plans for Dunk alone, they have many match-winners.

"Sharjeel even when he scores 30-40 provides us with quickfire starts. Of course, I want him to play big innings and win us matches but even his shorter innings help us. He is a match-winner and he'll play with his free mind, there's no pressure on him and I have no problem with him.

"I think we've brought our B game so far, so we want to move to B+, then A, then A+.

"The teams are so strong this time. All teams are balanced and it depends on momentum and which team starts clicking.

"If you look at the stats, as a Pakistani, we need to learn from the overseas players (big hitting). Our players are learning from the likes of Alex Hales and Chadwick Walton. Franchise cricket is important but so is Pakistan cricket. I implore all our players to learn from their mindset, it's all about the mindset.

"Aamer Yamin was one of our main players, he is a loss for us. We have bench strength to cover for that.

"If Mohammad Rizwan doesn't in the team composition, it is what it is. No doubt he is one of Pakistan's top wicket-keepers but if he can't come in our playing XI, we can't help it. We have to look at our squad. We have overseas players and positions in the batting order. We don't think he is fitting in the batting order anywhere right now. The people may think differently but our think tank is a bit reluctant. However, I know he is ready. He is practicing and working hard on his power hitting with Dean Jones. We don't know what will happen, he might play the final and win us that, or a playoff. He doesn't lose heart, he works hard, but if we can't fit him in the team, I can't do anything about that."

They are playing way too many spinners in their playing XI, need extra batsman instead of a spinner in their lineup.

Jordan Amir Umaid Imad and Iftikhar can share 20 overs

They dont have a batsman in the emerging category, so they will have to either play umer or arshad.

Ah thats why there playing XI looks messed up, so they have selected wrong picks from the very start:))

Usama Mir is another spinner who is warming the bench.

On the other hand their batting bench strength (Owais Zia & Muhammad Rizwan) isn't good.

Although they have good players in the current playing XI but overall they are a messed up squad.

Mohammad Rizwan's agent not happy with Imad's comments - his reply:

"In the recent T20 National championship, playing at number 3/4, he averaged 43. He was also the captain of the team."

Foreign player update from Karachi Kings

With New Zealand closing its borders, team management had a discussion with its star Kiwi and superb teammate, Mitchell McClenaghan, and it was decided it would be best for him to get back home safely as soon as possible.

The Kings organization wishes Mitch all the best for the future and most of all, a safe, healthy return home.

Mohammad Rizwan clearly not happy with Imad and Karachi Kings thinktank, these comments will not be taken lightly by Akram & Co:yk2

From Karachi Kings:

All foreign staff and players have now left for their respective homes. Most left late past night and the remainder earlier today.

Chadwick Walton averaging 2.33 in the CPL after being unimpressive in the PSL - time to drop him for Rizwan? Would free up an international player spot as well.
