Kashmiri Pandits demand creation of separate township within Kashmir for them

Militants confirmed my son’s identity, then shot him, says Kashmiri Pandit Rahul Bhat’s father

Kashmiri Pandit Rahul Bhat’s family has demanded an inquiry into his death by militant fire Thursday, while members of the community continue to protest on the streets urging enhanced security for themselves.

Bhat’s father said Friday that the militants had asked around who his son was, and then shot him. “We want an inquiry. There was a police station 100 feet away. They should check the CCTV footage. There was no security in the office either,” the father said.

Bhat was shot Thursday in his tehsil office in the Chadoora village, Budgam. He later died at a Srinagar hospital.

Bhat’s wife said her husband was confident that nobody would harm him. “He would say everyone behaved nicely with him. Yet nobody protected him. They (militants) must have asked someone about him. How would they have known who he was,” she asked.

On Friday morning, militants made another targeted killing – that of special police officer Riyaz Ahmed Thoker in Pulwama district’s Gudoora Rasool.

Sources told ANI that teacher Mohm Maqbool Hajam was a ‘terror overground worker (OGW)’ who radicalised people. He participated in mob attacks on a police station and other government buildings.

Constable Ghulam Rasool acted as an informer and tipped off militants about anti-terror operations. He also told the militants who were the police officers involved in these operations.

Professor Altaf Hussain Pandit was associated with the Jamaat-e-Islam, ANI said, adding, he crossed over to Pakistan for terror training and worked as a recruiter. He headed violent protests against the killing of terrorists in 2011 and 2014

Protests are being held in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir since last evening as Kashmiri Pandits demand safety in the wake of the killing of a 36-year-old government employee from the community.

Police fired tear gas shells and resorted to baton-charge when a group of protesters tried to proceed towards Srinagar airport.

At several areas, members of the community left their transit camps, blocked roads and raised slogans against the central government and BJP, saying they have failed them.

Over four thousand Kashmiri Pandits are living in transit camps in various parts of Kashmir after they were given government jobs under a special employment package launched in 2010.

The angry protesters also raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. At several places, candlelight marches were also held.

"We condemn this shameful incident. We ask the government, is this rehabilitation? Did they bring us here to get killed? There is no security here," said Ranjan Zutshi, a protester.

Another protester said, "We are here to work, we have nothing to do with anything else. Why are they killing us? Just tell us what is our crime? The administration has failed."

Sanjay, a protester, told NDTV that despite assurances by authorities, attacks targeting the community continue. "See the gravity of the situation, a tehsildar's office is meant to be a secure place. He (Rahul Bhat) was working at his table and bullets pierced his body. He was shot point-blank. The system has collapsed, security has collapsed, safety has collapsed."

At a protest at Shekhpora in Budgam, local Muslims joined the Kashmiri Pandits, serving them water and demanding justice and safety for members of the community.

"Our Muslim brothers have stood shoulder to shoulder with us. We are really thankful to them," Sanjay said.

Javed Iqbal, who joined the protest, said, "I appeal to all Muslims in Kashmir, come forward and protest. The administration has completely failed to protect them (Kashmiri Pandits). If a man is killed in the magistrate's office, where will Kashmiri Pandits go?"

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti claimed that she has been placed under house arrest to stop her from visiting Budgam to express solidarity with the protesting Kashmiri Pandits.

"Wanted to visit Budgam to express my solidarity with Kashmiri Pandits protesting against GOIs failure to protect them. Have been put under house arrest as the fact that Kashmiri Muslims and Pandits empathise with each other's pain doesn't fit into their vicious communal narrative," the PDP chief said.

National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abddullah said it was "shameful that legitimate and justified protests" were met with a "heavy-handed response".

"This is not new for the people of Kashmir because when all the administration has is a hammer every problem resembles a nail. If the LG's Govt can't protect KPs they have a right to protest," he tweeted.

In what appeared to be another targeted attack, terrorists barged into the Tehsildar's office at Chadoora village in Budgam district yesterday and shot Rahul Bhat. He was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The 36-year-old had been working in Budgam district for the past 10 years after his appointment under a special package to rehabilitate Kashmiri Pandits. His body was taken to Jammu for last rites.

Rahul Bhat is the third Kashmiri Pandit to be killed in the past six months. Two others have been injured.

Targeted killings in Kashmir started in October. The victims were mostly migrant workers who came in search of jobs and Kashmiri Pandits.

In October, seven civilians were killed in five days -- among them a Kashmiri Pandit, a Sikh and two migrant Hindus.

Shortly after, many Kashmiri Pandit families fled their homes in Sheikhpora - home to the minority community.

Rahul Bhat's killing has yet again brought to the fore the challenges to rehabilitating the Kashmiri Pandit community.

While the government has announced several schemes and made appeals to the members of the community to come back to the Valley, repeated attacks on Kashmiri Pandits raise the critical question of whether they will be safe if they return.

Special Team To Probe Kashmiri Pandit's Murder After Outrage In Valley

Rahul Bhat was shot dead by terrorists in central Kashmir.

A Special Investigation Team has been formed to investigate the death of Kashmiri pandit Rahul Bhat, who was shot dead by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district yesterday. Amid shock over the killing and outrage against the Central government, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha tweeted about the formation of the SIT.

"J&K administration to provide a government job to Rahul Bhat's wife in Jammu and financial assistance to the family. The government will bear educational expenses of the daughter," his second tweet read.

Rahul Bhatt, an employee of the Tehsil office in the Budgam district's Chadoora, was shot by terrorists in the Budgam on Thursday. Critically injured, he was shifted to a local hospital where he died later.

A second Kashmiri -- Riyaz Ahmad Thoker, a police constable and a resident of Pulwama 0-- also died after being shot at by terrorists at his home on Friday.

The killings have outraged the Kashmiri Pandit community in the valley who are blaming the Central government for the attack. Jammu and Kashmir has been under Central rule since 2018.

After the killing of Rahul Bhat, overnight protests were held in parts of Kashmir valley. Demanding safety, Kashmiri pandits alleged that the central government has failed them.

'You will die': Terror group threatens Kashmiri Pandits in J&K's Pulwama

Lashkar-e-Islam, a terrorist group, has issued a threat to Kashmiri Pandits residing at the Hawal Transit accommodation in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a letter addressed to the president of the migrant colony, the group asked all 'migrants and RSS agents' to "leave or face death".
Further, the terrorist group said there was "no space for Kashmiri Pandits who want another Israel in Kashmir to kill Kashmiri Muslims".

"Double/triple your security, be ready for targeted killing. You will die," the letter said.

This comes only days after Rahul Bhat, a Kashmiri Pandit government employee, was shot dead by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district. He was attacked at the Tehsildar office in Chadoora in central Kashmir on Thursday afternoon.

Terror group 'Kashmir Tigers' claimed responsibility for the attack.

Following the attack, the Kashmiri Pandit community took to the streets across the union territory and held protests. On Saturday, government employees from the Kashmiri Pandit community made a desperate appeal for evacuation from the Kashmir Valley in a letter to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. "Kashmir is not safe for us," they wrote.

If the pandit got their domiciles issued after the removal of article 30a and 370, than i see no issue with the threat.

How many of these pundits have died compared to Kashmiri Muslims? Don't give me RSS figures.

Srinagar: Hundreds of Kashmiri Pandits came out in Srinagar today in protest against targeted killings. Many of them, especially government employees from the Kashmiri Pandit community, have left the valley and the rest have threatened to migrate to Jammu region, putting a jobs package for them by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at risk of failing.

Visuals of hundreds of Kashmiri Pandits in Srinagar show them shouting slogans and demanding to leave the valley, on a day a bank manager from Rajasthan was shot dead by a terrorist in Kulgam district in the second targeted attack on Hindus in three days.

Amit Koul, who led protests in Srinagar for three weeks, shared a photo from the Srinagar-Jammu highway. He told NDTV he crossed Ramsoo in Ramban district and reached Jammu this evening.

To stop them from leaving, the Union Territory administration had put up barricades and locked gates to transit camps.

The minority community has been protesting since Rahul Bhat, a Kashmiri Pandit, was shot dead inside the magistrate's office in Budgam last month.

Srinagar Airport said a media report that Kashmiri Pandits are flying out in large numbers is incorrect.

"We strongly rebut this sensational rumour mongering. We handle between 16,000 to 18,000 passengers everyday. Today also the number of passengers is average. There is no heavy rush of minority community as rumoured...Please do not spread rumours like this," the airport tweeted on its official handle.

Home Minister Amit Shah met with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval in Delhi to review the situation.

Mr Shah has also called the Union Territory's Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to Delhi for a meeting. The Home Minister is likely to ask him why, despite the centre's efforts, the administration has not been able to assure safety for the minority community in the valley

I believe there will not be peace until people give more importance to Kashmiri ethnicity rather than religion.
Demanding separate townships is a bad move and I hope they will not get it. Living in separate townships simply puts a target on it for Separatists to attack them even more.

How many of these pundits have died compared to Kashmiri Muslims? Don't give me RSS figures.

While any death of innocents is wrong the Kashmiri Hindus were killed for being Hindus.

The Kashmiri Muslims who died belong to 2 categories. The average joe caught up in a cross fire or explosion or the terrorist gunned down by the armed forces. While the deaths of those innocent Muslims are also equally very painful but they were not hunted for their religion.

So not sure how those numbers are going to help you to determine whatever you want to determine from that information.

Is it so surreal to believe that whenever there is a Islamic revolution with slogans like Jihad etc, the minorities are not exactly secure ? Don’t give me rhetoric or try to point score, let me know if you actually believe that.

RIP slain Kashmiri Pandits.

Hope the terrorists who killed them for just being Hindus/Kashmiri Pandits rot in hell for eternity.

No excuse for Murder.

None, and from any side of the political spectrum.

Not sure why this thread is emphasizing on what Indian media has to say. Atrocities are committed at a much greater scale on innocent Muslims of Kashmir. There is no excuse for murder obviously be it Hindu or Muslim, but core issues need to be discussed.

Several Pandit employees leave Kashmir, say violence shows govt failure

Several Kashmiri Pandits, who have got jobs in the Valley under Prime Minister's employment package, have reached Jammu along with their families and said an environment of apprehension is prevalent in the valley owing to the recent spate in the targeted killings by terrorists.

"The spurt in violence is the reflection of the failure of the government and exposed the false claims of normalcy returning to the valley in the aftermath of the abrogation of Article 370. Heads should roll at the highest level in the Union Territory," he said.

'Black day for Kashmir and the nation'

The Kashmiri Pandits are angry, distraught and are protesting against at the spate of killings of members of their community. What are their worries, fears at the moment?

It is a black day for Kashmir and the nation. The exodus of Pandits happened in 1990 -- and it is happening once again.

In 1990 when the exodus happened, the V P Singh government was in power supported by the BJP. Today once again, the BJP is in power and migration is taking place.

Heads must roll from top to bottom and be replaced with those who understand the conflict.

What are the job opportunities for Pandits employed under the prime minister's special package and what measure of relief has it brought to Pandits in Kashmir?

The administration is discriminatory towards the minorities in terms of promotions and salaries. For example, the junior engineers appointed in 2010 under the PM package are still at the same post while those who applied in the open category have reached the level of deputy chief engineer.

Their salary is fixed at Rs 14,000 with a probation for two years.

A Delhi-based skilled worker is getting Rs 26,000 whereas a PM package employee in J&K is getting Rs 14,000; s/he is also supposed to sign a bond.[/b]

The lieutenant governor and administration say they have a cell for the redressal of problems faced by the Pandits. I challenge anyone in India to send an e-mail to the LG's office or J&K administration office and see if they get a response!

Abrogation of Article 370 was a party's agenda. They did it and congratulations to them, but that has not brought normalcy to Kashmir.

The people of Jammu and Kashmir are your own people. Do not use them as cannon fodder in your laboratory.

The home minister has called a meeting to discuss the spate of killings and the security situation in Kashmir.

That itself shows that the home minister is not aware about what is going on in Kashmir. Will there be meetings held after every such incident and some new jumla be spouted?

The accommodation provided to them by the government is also woeful. The flats are very small for an entire family. In spite of being recently constructed, many flats are already falling apart.

What has changed for the Pandits after the abrogation of Article 370?

The blunt answer is, things are as they were pre-2019. What we sustained pre-2019, we are doing the same post-2019.

In the business of conflict and war unless we walk the talk, things will not improve.

Straight from horse's mouth. Jumlas and lies can't replace good governance, they never have, they never will.

All these sanghis are doing these days is promoting bollywood films, first it was that propaganda filled trash, Kashmir Files and now its Prithviraj, having their stooge Akshay Kumar as main lead.

That's why shedding crocodile tears by sanghis over plight of Kashmiri Pandits was such a give away, anyone could see through that. Now despite bigot enjoying unbridled power for last 8 years, has done nothing for them apart from fulfilling sanghi agenda of abrogating Article 370 which was anyways never going to help Kashmiri Pandits.

It's all a matter of perspective. I and most Kashmiris don't consider those Kashmiri freedom fighters to be "terrorists", but I guess you already know that.

There's no need to make this pundit situation bigger than it is. A couple of hundred "pundits" died which pales in comparison to the thousands maybe even hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris that have died at the hands of India's terrorist army. See, it's all a matter of perspective.

Anyone who shouts religious slogans and kills innocent is a terrorist no matter how noble he thinks his cause is.

Indian army is doing is its job. Are you going to call Pak army terrorists for killing “freedom fighters” in Balochistan etc?

The fact that you say “a couple of hundred of pundits” in such a casual tone speaks a lot about your mindset doesn’t it?

No it’s not a matter of perspective,

There's around 1 soldier for every 18 people in IOK. Why does India need so many soldiers in Kashmir? Is it because Pakistan has magically brainwashed every Kashmiri into believing that India has turned Kashmir into an open air prison? Pakistan and its damn propaganda brainwashing those patriotic Kashmiris into hating India. :po:

On a serious note save me your 3rd rate excuses. You don't set the parameters of who can or can not be considered a terrorist. I have and will continue to call the average Indian soldier a terrorist because the average Indian soldier fits my definition of a terrorist.

The definition of terrorism:

The unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.

India's army fits the bill perfectly.

Indian ministers and diplomats have already admitted that they want to get rid of local Kashmiris and replace them with random Hindus from random places in India.

He asserted that the Indian government should also follow the policy of Israel, though he did not elaborate on which aspect or even its relevance – since Israel’s policies are those of a foreign occupier while India’s official stance is that Kashmir is an integral part of the country. “I don’t know why we don’t follow it. It has happened in the Middle East. If the Israeli people can do it, we can also do it”, - Sandeep Chakravorty, India’s consul general said.

1). Ex-Indian Army officer Major General SP Sinha tried to justify the rape of Kashmiris as a tool of war. SP Sinha is now a member of BJP.

2). BJP MLA from Khatauli in Muzaffarnagar Vikram Singh Saini sparked a row Tuesday after he said the party workers were “excited” because they will now be able to get married to “fair girls from Kashmir”.

Here's another quote from BJP MLA Vikram Sinha.

3). Vikram Singh said, "B*latkar ke badle B*latkar" (r*pe for r*pe) as revenge for the Kashmiri Pandit exodus.

Vikram Singh is also a supporter of the propaganda movie known as "Kashmir files".

4). (CNN)Indian police have arrested three Kashmiri Muslims for allegedly celebrating Pakistan's win over India in the T20 World Cup on Sunday.

The sad part about all of this is that I can keep going all day writing about the injustices and crimes India has committed against Kashmiris. There's no other country in the world with politicians as dumb and bloodthirsty as India's.

Another Kashmiri Pandit Shot Dead By Terrorists In Latest Targeted Killing

In yet another instance of targeted killing, a Kashmiri Pandit was shot dead by terrorists in Shopian district on Saturday, officials said.

Puran Krishan Bhat was attacked near his residence in the Chowdhary Gund area of south Kashmir district, they said, adding that doctors declared Mr Bhat brought dead after he was shifted to a Shopian hospital.
The area has been cordoned off, and a hunt has been launched to catch the criminals, they added.

Mr Bhat has two school going children - a girl who studies in class 7 and a younger boy who is in class 5 - a relative said. "He didn't even step out of his house, used to be indoors. We are very scared," he added.

This comes barely a couple of months after another Kashmiri Pandit was shot dead by terrorists at an apple orchard in Shopian district. His brother was also injured in the firing. The victim was identified as Sunil Kumar. His brother Pintu Kumar was injured in the attack that happened on August 16.

The August attack was claimed by 'Kashmir Freedom Fighters', an offshoot of Al Badr, in a statement that said that the Pandit brothers had been targeted for encouraging people to take part in the 'Tiranga rallies' in the run-up to Independence Day celebrations.

Sources had then said the government, based on inputs from the country's top body for intelligence sharing 'Multi-Agency Centre', was bracing for more such violence.

"There are regular inputs which suggest that a large quantity of small arms and ammunition has been smuggled from across the border, and it's a clear indicator that such targeted killing and isolated cases of grenade throwing will see an increase in coming days," a senior officer in the Home Ministry has said then.

Kashmir has been witnessing a series of targeted killings since October last year. Many of the victims have been migrant workers or Kashmiri Pandits.

In October last year, seven civilians were killed in five days -- among them a Kashmiri Pandit, a Sikh, and two migrant Hindus.

In May, terrorists barged into the tehsildar's office in Budgam and shot dead 36-year-old Rahul Bhat, a Kashmiri Pandit who received a government job under a package for the community that was forced to flee the Valley during the wave of militancy in the 1990s.

The killing triggered a wave of protests by the minority community. Kashmiri Pandits held demonstrations during which they raised slogans under the central government and questioned if they brought them back to the Valley to get killed.

Kashmir Freedom Fighter claims responsibility for Puran Krishan Bhat's killing

In another targeted killing, a Kashmiri Pandit - Puran Krishan Bhat - was shot dead allegedly by terrorists in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. Deputy inspector general of police Sujit Kumar said the Kashmir Freedom Fighter (KFF) group, the proxy name of a terrorist group, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Bhat was attacked near his residence in the Chowdhary Gund area of the south Kashmir district. He was rushed to Shopian hospital where doctors declared him dead, police said.
Hundreds of protesting displaced Kashmiri Pandit employees blocked the Jammu-Akhnoor road to protest the latest targeted killing of their community members.

Top updates on Kashmiri Pandit's killing in Shopian:

> The Valley has witnessed a spate of targeted killings since October last year. Several Hindus, including migrant workers, have been killed.

It is better if Pandits move out of Kashmir to a safer place. What else do they have to see make the move is beyond me. Indian army cannot protect them. Jihadis are everywhere.

They are definitely not safe.

Life is more important than sentiments and feelings. People may be attached to their ancestral lands. But not at the cost of life itself.

There is no hope for Pandits and they should either move to Jammu or Delhi. Best is to move to South Indian cities. Safest of all.

Another sacrifice by a Pandit brother. Makes it easy for army to stick around longer. Gives them an easy excuse to push a few things around. Makes the case stronger for Pandit only colonies. Easier to shut a few foreign journos claiming victimhood. Easier to blame Pakistan. List goes on

If you keep on oppressing Kashmiris, this type of thing may happen. Some people may lash out.

First step toward peace should be to bring back old status quo.

Can you call them terrorists and **** then.

Are they associated with any terror group? If yes, I can call them terrorists. If not, they are just criminals who should be punished according to applicable laws.

Would you call that mob of 200 terrorists too (who terrorized Muslim worshippers inside a mosque)?

Try to be a little original, irrespective they still wipe the floor with Akram Khan.

They never faced Akram Khan. Akram Khan retired in 2003. He didn't get an opportunity to take Dinda to cleaners (like BD did to India in 2007 WC).

Anyway. We are going off-topic.

Now you know why they keep getting oppressed. Pandits were kicked from their homelands. Now they are coming back. Unlike in the past, reaction to every pandit's death will be bringing in 50 more Hindus to Kashmir and arrest 20 fringe elements. This is no proportional war. Goal is to make every terror incident very expensive for Kashmiris.

I don't know how these townships will help. Most kashmiri pandits I know are happy to sit out and not risk their lives in that terror infested valley. It's almost a certainty that they will be the first targets for the Jihadi elements whenever a friction with government emerges.

One pandit is killed and everyone in Kashmiri Muslim leadership condemns it, rightfully so. Will the pandit community condemn the killings and torture of Kashmiri Muslims by the Indian Army? I will not hold my breath.

If an innocent Kashmiri gets killed, then it should be condemned irrespective of religion. But if the youth are throwing stones at army and they get shot, not so much sympathy.

I thought Kashmir problem has been resolved by feku. At least that's what feku and his gang wants us to believe.

Targeted Killings Continue In J&K, 2 UP Labourers Killed In Grenade Attack In Shopian

Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian saw yet another instance of targeted killings when 2non-local labourers were killed in a grenade attack on Tuesday, October 18.

According to the J&K police, terrorists hurled a grenade in Shopian's Harmen area, injuring two labourers-- Monish Kumar and Ram Sagar, both residents of Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj. The two injured labourers were shifted to the hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries, J&K police tweeted.

As per the preliminary information, terrorists first hurled a grenade outside the tin shed in which the labourers were sleeping and then fired upon them. Reportedly, the 2 labourers died due to splinter injuries. It is pertinent to mention that this is the third case of targeted killings in three days in J&K's Shopian. Earlier, on Saturday, a Kashmiri Pandit was shot in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district on Saturday.
