Full Release:

Kent have signed Pakistan bowler Yasir Shah, the world’s top-ranked Test leg-spinner for four Specsavers County Championship matches.

The 31-year-old is set to make his debut at The Spitfire Ground on Thursday (8 June) against Durham as Kent continue their promotion push.

He is also available for the trips to Worcestershire and Nottinghamshire before taking on Northamptonshire at The County Ground, Beckenham on July 3-6.

Yasir is the second fastest bowler of all-time to take 100 wickets in Test cricket, achieving the feat in just 17 matches and was top of the ICC Test bowler rankings last summer.

He is fine form, taking 46 wickets in two three-Test series for Pakistan against West Indies in 2016 and 2017, earning him both Player of the Series awards.

Yasir Shah said: “I’m very happy to return to England and play county cricket for the first time.

“I’ve heard positive things about the county and hope to contribute to the team.

“I’ve enjoyed my previous visits to England and look forward to playing in front of the Kent supporters at Canterbury and Beckenham.”

Head coach Matt Walker said: “Yasir is one of the finest spinners in the world and will add something different to our attack.

“Taking 20 wickets consistently in red-ball cricket will be key to our promotion chances and a bowler of Yasir’s calibre will help to us achieve that and rotate our attack at a key period in the season.”

Its Division Two of County.

He'll run through them.

Boy from Swabi has come a long way :))

Kent's far too posh an area for us Northern or Midlands blokes shaz619.

Appears him and Pujara will get their own personal India v Pakistan then :D.

Ah I didn't think about that. Should be an intriguing battle.

That's a date in the diary for folks - Nottinghamshire v Kent at Trent Bridge - Jun 26-29th.

great news..it will help him for the uk tour in 2018 ans over all....but overburden will be a problem...

Great news hope he picks up truckload of wickets so tomorrow will be his first match then?

Yasir Shah :- County Championship 2017

Yasir Shah made his county debut on 8 june 2017 (yesterday) for KENT against DURHAM
This thread will keep a look on his performances...
Yasir Shah's performance
1st innings :-
Overs -- 26
Maidens -- 6
Runs -- 68
Wickets -- 1
Since we all know that Shah is a second innings King but more was expected of him since the Durham's batting line up didn’t contain any big names and the fact that he is playing in DIVISION 2 County Championship...
His only wicket was number 9 batsman Barry McCarthy, he was bowled by Shah.
But lets keep fingers crossed, he has got other innings in this match and 3 more matches to make a mark in County Cricket.

Wonder if the 'Bowling Bradman' has ever been picked to play FC cricket in England. Surely given his tremendous impact on test matches that his team plays outside Asia, he deserves a contract.

Should be in his element from 2nd innings am sure - great experience for him

Not sure if it's a good idea. Kaneria's decline started after a few seasons with Essex. The positive is though that Yasir doesn't rely on his variations thus difficult to manage.

Pretty hard to get a Shield cricket contract at a time of year when theres no Sheffield Shield cricket going on.

Lol i meant whenever it starts. He should tried to get a contract.

Made more sense to get a county deal as Pakistan don't have any series this summer. A Shield deal would clash with our international commitments later this year.

Yasir got 48 runs but fell just short of his fifty.

Durham's second innings commences.

Today's the first day of Kent's match against Worcestershire and Yasir is in the side.

26 overs, 5 maidens, 2-84 from Yasir against Worcestershire.

Current Figures for Yasir Shah: 1-0-2-2

So far so good.

5fer for Yasir in 2nd innings but in a losing cause

7 wickets in total in the game against Worcs.

Kent is playing Nottinghamshire today, but Yasir isn't playing, although in the OP it's said he was available for the match.

Yasir Shah to return to County Championship side to play at Beckenham against Northamptonshire

Looks like they're playing on a road in Beckenham.

Kent racked up 701-7 in the 1st innings.

Northants are 256-4. Yasir the leading wicket-taker with 2-84 from 32 overs.

Really hope he is sensible enough to manage his workload. In this match so far, he has bowled 42 out of 125 overs so far- that is nearly a third of the overs!

Not sure if this county stint is ideal for him. I wouldn't be surprised if he returns with a shoulder injury. It's no secret that spinners are used to bowling a lot of overs but not legspinners, especially Yasir Shah with his arduous action. Like Misbah over bowling Yasir wasn't enough already.

Yes but surely Yasir should be saying something? It's not like he has any particular affinity to Kent. He should manage his own workload in county stints.

Yasir gets his 3rd wicket of the game. White caught by Denly.

Yasir doing good on what must be an absolute road of a pitch. Heading towards a bore draw in his final appearance

yasir shah disappointing performance for kent

he has proved himself to be unplayable on turning pitches and is rightfully the no 1 test spinner in the world but better performance was expected from him for kent considering how poor county players are vs spin especially in division 2.

it seems like he hasn't been able to handle the non turning tracks.

averaging nearly 40 at a strike rate of 60+

on the plus side it is encouraging to see him among the runs. averages 43 with the bat.

he has decline since the SL tour in 2015 his leg spin is not turning with the same bite running through poor Windies batting on slow dry tracks does not mean he is bowling well I believe he will struggle vs better batting sides Pakistan needs to keep the bench strong so he does not become irreplaceable.

He only played 3 matches, one on an incredibly flat wicket at Beckenham where the 1st inns scores were 701 and 548. Even in that match, he was Kent's best bowler.

I remember Graeme Swann talking about how some county captains don't know how to use spinners. They use them as defensive, containing options - bringing them on to give their pacers a break who are their real attacking options.

Kent's captain Sam Northeast in the early season didn't even pick his off-spinner Adam Riley whilst James Tredwell only took two wickets in five matches.

Ironically, Yasir's batting helped save a match against Durham in an unbeaten tenth wicket partnership :))
