31 years old Anish Kumar was hindu who becomes muslim and changed his name to Faisal Pilani.

One of his hindu brother-in-law Vinod who was member of Hindu Extremist Organization RSS, gave him threats for embracing Islam. Finally he was killed by Vinod and other members of RSS.

Faisal's sister took divorce from Vinod.

The whole family of Faisal has become muslim which includes Faisal's mother, 2 sisters, 1 brother-in-law and their 5 kids.

The family's lives are in danger after becoming muslim and they have moved to a safer place. Other local muslims are helping the family.

We can only imagine how hard it is for new muslims in India. The reality is even worst. May Allah forgive all sins of Faisal and grant him Paradise on the day of Judgement. May Allah give the family of Faisal strength to remain steadfast in Islam. Ameen.

Converting to islam out of contempt. May not last.

Hundreds of people convert everyday without getting killed. One wacko kills and it becomes Hindu extremists killing new coverts.

AR Rehman was a Muslim convert and went on to become the best music director in all India.

Why do people have any expectations from India and Indians? It's beyond me. They are amongst the most anti- Muslim people in the world and are proud of it. Here in the UK, they stand with the right-wing movements, slating Pakistanis and Islam around the clock. Heck they even invited 'Tommy Robinson' to a Gurdwara... They don't even hide their profound animosity anymore.

Sorry to say but we're being a little hypocritical here as Pakistanis or Muslims itself. I hope people realise that if a Muslim converts to Hinduism or ANYOTHER religion, he is labelled an apostate by the Government and executed according to LAW in Pakistan. Also, this is an act committed by individuals, not the state or anyone even representing the state - Hindus, Ahmedis, Shia's are killed everyday in Pakistan by different individuals just for the sake of being born into the particular religion, are we not going to recognize that? I mean, these people didn't even convert it anything, they were born into the religion and are massacred for the sole reason I'm following a particular faith? Extemely hypocritical of Pakistanis to taunt India for this without even realising what happens in our own country and without even looking at our LAWS.

Kerala: Family of Hindu man, killed for converting, embraces Islam

Eight members of the family of the 31-year-old man, who was brutally murdered by a suspected group of RSS workers for converting to Islam in November last year, in Kerala’s Muslim-dominated Malappuram have decided to follow his footsteps.

Aneesh Kumar alias Faisal Pullani’s two sisters, a brother-in-law, and five of their children converted last week. Pullani’s mother Meenakshi Amma (Jameela) embraced Islam a month after her son’s killing.

Fearing backlash, Pullani’s family was moved to a safe location where they were learning basic tenets of the religion, a close relative said adding that their conversion was approved by Maunanthul Islam Sabha, a religious school in Ponnani.

Faisal, who worked as a driver in Saudi Arabia, was hacked to death in Kodinhi village on November 19, 2016, a year after he converted to Islam. Later, the police arrested 12 people, including his brother-in-law K Vinod, in connection with the murder.

His family members said Vinod, an active worker of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), had earlier threatened to kill him if he acted on his “conversion aspirations”. He was killed three days before he was to fly to join his workplace.

“After her husband, Vinod, turned an accused in the case his wife (Faisal’s sister) had applied for divorce and she also embraced Islam,” the family member said adding that the local Muslim community is looking after the entire family now.

Since all the accused are out on bail, a peace committee was convened two days ago in Kodinhi to foil any attempt to vitiate the atmosphere. Police have also tightened vigil in the area.

“India is a secular-democratic country. We will not allow anyone to vitiate the communal fabric,” said district panchayat president AP Unnikrishnan. “Their conversion was not out of rage or protest. They were influenced by the religion and no coercion is there. It is their individual choice,” he added.

After Pullani’s murder, there were fears of a communal flare-up but the situation was brought under control thanks to the dotting mahal (mosque) committees, which took a pledge that they will uphold the communal tradition of the district.

“In Kodinhi village there are 3,000 Muslim families and 200 Hindu families. During the burial of Faisal though there were taqbir chants, but many mahal committees took to loud speakers to announce that it was our duty to protect our Hindu brethren,” Komukutty Haji, secretary of the peace committee, said explaining how they defused the situation.

However, the Bharatiya Janata Party maintained it was only opposing monetary-involved conversions.

“We are not against conversion. But if it is induced by coercion or monetary involvement naturally it will spark social and communal tension. We have reports that in certain cases money is involved,” said BJP’s Malappuram district secretary Ravi Thelath adding that the Kodinhi incident was an isolated one.

Did the guilty get punished? Or are they out on bail and an ever lasting case is going against them in court?

Can we have a better source?

Its true. Can confirm. This was a huge issue some months back .

For some reason Kerala's fragile communal harmony continues to live on. Events like this prove that our state is just one big flare up away from becoming the next bit battleground for both communities.

Malappuram is part of Malabar region (northern Kerala) and the Only Muslim majority district in the state. Historically it was one of the strongholds of Kerala brahmin culture and very famous for Ayurveda. Islam slowly emerged as the majority religion over time.

Key point to note is that historically Malappuram was the main centre of the "Moplah rebellion" of 1921, which explains why it happens to be one of the most communally sensitive regions in the state. So conservative hindu movements have always been present in the Hindu community for decades.

The main issue with this region is that this is one of the more educationally and socially backward regions of the state , for both communities, So conservatism is a part of their very existence. And there is a history of religiously motivate killings of people converting from Hinduism to Islam and vice Versa since the 1940's.

Though this incident is isolated , it is indicative of the rising polarization in the state, which had long prided itself on the harmony between its 3 communities (Hindus, Muslims and Christians).

Muslims also convert to Hinduism in Kerala? What about the Hindu-Muslim marriages? Must be tilted heavily in favor of Muslim Men - Hindu Women I Suppose.

The first recorded murder in Malapuram over conversion happened in 1947, it involved a rich Land owning muslim family converting to Hinduism , that too the Brahmin caste (Malappuram is an erstwhile Brahmin centre). And yes it was for one of the men in the family to marry a Hindu Brahmin girl .

Thank you.

Now, any thoughts or was this a fact check session?

Wasn't Modi a member of the RSS?

We see an increasing amount of right wing thuggery under Modi's regime, it's no coincidence.

The guilty has been arrested and law will punish them.

Hindus have been converting to Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, Jainism, Buddhism for centuries now. What has this become a huge issue now?

It appears as though someone converting to other religion has become a matter of pride. Kind of like honor killing.

because hindu extremists want to force normal hindus to remain hindus instead of deciding on their own what they want to do. and hindu extremists now are powerful because a hindu extremist party BJP is in power.

How does arrest in this particular case show that they are now powerful?

This may/may not be true in the BJP led states for sure but not in this part of country. It is one of the places where BJP/RSS are weakly represented. Kerala is always under Congress and Communist rule and it's the state govt's duty to control these law and order here. Not someone sitting in Delhi.

Kerala police arrested 8 people in this case who are in bail now. They are not acquitted from the case and will be definitely punished by court if found guilty.

In all honesty most people are insecure about people from their community converting to any other faith. Many Muslims would be equally furious and uncomfortable to see anyone from their family become a Hindu or Christian. It is just the way most people feel about their faith. It's laughable how most so called believers in any faith seem to be the most insecure when it comes to people leaving what they believe in.

More than insecurity it's their honour that's been hurt. When you fight for a cause (in this case the RSS worker) and your own family member comes in loggerheads with you, it's difficult i guess....esp in matters related to religion. But no excuse for this brutality.

RSS are not the official speakers for all Hindu's or Hinduism. This is what these RSS goons need to realise.

Very true kaayal . That is exactly what happens. Many people in India feel that is you are committed to one ideology, that implies that your entire "khaandaan" must be unequivocally followers of the same.

You see that a lot in politics, people always question the decisions / choices of their children/wives/ relatives to judge existing politicians. Its always 'How dare you ask us to support your cause if your own family doesn't follow it ? ".

That is what normal/moderate hindu must make clear. Unfortunately many are staying quiet and are letting the RSS equate Hindu=RSS (recent protests were a refreshing exception).

Every religion will be judged by the worst behavior done in its name, not the best . Which is a lesson for all religions.

Moderate Hindus need to come out and condemn RSS thugs and disassociate themselves from them

Chaddi boys are desperately trying to ruin the secular fabric of the state, this is not just an odd incidents, it's one of the very few places in the world where significant number of hindus, muslims and christians are coexisting without having major issues between them. Positive thing is that people belonging to all communities showed considerable amount of restraint whenever their community members came under attack. Kudos to kaayal for not behaving like people who targets you whenever some members of your community are involved in these type of incidents.

That's a dangerous statement to make as representative of the government. Why should someone getting money be an excuse to spark communal tension? It reflects badly on India's leadership.

Yes, scary times ahead for us if BJP win the election again in 2019. But incidents like below will always give Hindus reasons to vote for bjp to save them from the perceived threats of Muslims in India.
