I get why Khushdil is in the team. Babar wants to form his own team rather than be undermined by seniors (hence no Sarfaraz or Malik in the team). This is why Khushdil has been given such a long run, along with the glaring lack of alternatives.
I also get that Khushdil hasn’t delivered. I agree that he needs to be dropped for his own sanity and mental health, if nothing else.
However, the reaction against him has been abhorrent. There were loads of ppl in the crowd shouting Parchi at him, whilst ppl cheered when he got out. Whatever you think of him, he’s representing your country, and wishing Ill on him, is more a reflection of yourself then the player.
We are continually frustrated with Khushdil. However it’s also true that he’s rarely been put in a position to succeed. He’s the type of player who should come in, in the tenth over. However, because of our bewildering tactics batting first l, he comes in too late. And for a lad with limited range, and with the country on his back, he bats without clarity and confidence and gives his wicket away.
My point is this. Khushdil is not a world beater, and clearly he’s not an incredible batsmen. However, I can guarantee that he’s a much better player than how he’s performed. This is the same guy who absolutely smashed Haris Rauf on this same ground for Multan. Much of the blame for Khusdil’s failure goes on him. However, you also have to question if the captain has properly utilised Khushdil’s ability or not.
For me, that’s not just a Khushdil problem. That’s a problem of any young batsmen that comes into the side. Can Babar get the best out of him?
