I don't believe selecting Babar was Mike Hesson's decision. As someone who values data and numbers selecting Babar goes against everything a coach like Hesson stands for. Yesterday you finally felt like it was a team selected fully by him.

Bakhri revealed it was indeed Hesson and Agha who convinced Aqib straight after Asia cup to bring in Babar.
Hesson is slightly guilty of this.
I love Hesson but I can’t overlook this. He overestimated Babar’s value in T20.

Well if that's the case then it's a pretty big blunder by him. As is over-estimating the value of Nawaz and Shadab, although the numbers did back those selections. Still he needs to stay on till 2028 and be given a free rein if they want their cricket to improve.

They are out for him because he has basically humbled and neutralised Babar and Rizwan. A lot of these ex cricketers barking on TV against him most likely have some kind of stake with Rizwan+Babar in the limelight for Pakistan.
Stick with Henson and let him rebuild the team get rid of ttfs and invest in new players and show some patients after losing one series all ttfs comeback this has to stop if they are not good enough and are dropped what have they done to reclaim their place back in the team young players and domestic players who toil year after year are wasted because they don't have political connections we hear we have no talent in domestic setup let's give people a chance to see what we have give top performers a chance if they are no good move to the next one we can't go round and round with these losers

Hesson is trying to create 15 players out of 11 players in the end, but he is getting 7 or 8 players at most. As a coach, you should know who the bowlers are most likely to complete 20 overs beforehand. There were matches where Faheem did not bowl a single over. Shahheen bowled just 2 overs. In the Asia Cup, Nawaz hardly bowled as India had a lot of lefties. Gauti is also guilty of this. He has severely weakened the batting unit in the name of having a versatile bowling lineup.

Ya.. he should know the USP of each player accurately. He is currently overrating some players massively. He needs a much stronger threshold to play someone at batting positions like 5, 6, etc. At 5 and 6 you either need genuine all-rounders or batting all-rounders. Not bowling all-rounders. Imagine David Miller is sent by SA at 6 and Pakistan sends Nawaz. When SA was 20/3 Miller came and rescued them. In similar situation pakistan would have sent SHadab India would have run through them in a jiffy.

Agree, I know Hesson maybe over analyze things and made some mistakes, but from the team selection to the 15 that where selected for this world cup, I do not think he had the exact players he wanted and the exact 11 he wanted to play, with the exception of the last match vs Sri Lanka.

I think he’s made a lot of poor decisions. Too much liking for allrounders, poor team selection, bringing back Babar, persisting with Agha as captain etc. Not to mention poor decisions at toss. Not a fan of shadab playing as a batsman either.
But overall I do see Pakistan progressing. So I do think we keep him.
Just need a personnel change. Agha needs to go as does Babar. And I think for now Saim shouldn’t open. I think it will be a lot easier to manage this team if these changes are made.

Why many former players are badly targeting Mike Hesson for failure in this WC? Yes he failed as a coach but 7-8 players who are in set up since many years are to blamed instead of coach.
And yesterdays team also messed up. Farhan was only interested in his 100. Once he was on 97 or o8, he should had gone for shots. Instead he was dabbing it around and exposed others. Atleast 40 runs could had been scored.
Look at fakhar, was nearing a century, was playing faster than Farhan. Did not care went for the shots and got out.
Why i am mentioning this because this mindset comes from the coaches themselves.
He was the one that selected nawaz and shadab. The fact that khawaja nafay was given a game showed Hesson was desperate and he was looking for hitters to be added some where.
Shadab was in the team as a hitter. Think about it...
He dropped abrar. He keeps mirza in the squae but doenst play him. Abbas afridi and waseem jr are treated as third class citizens because they dont have the hype.
Had this been any pakistani local coach making similar decisions, he would had been fired after the asia cup.

Some of his tactical decisions have been baffling BUT he genuinely wants to improve Pakistan cricket to play with an open aggressive mindset.
His mistake was thinking Pakistani players are mentally strong and open to change.
Babar does not want to play at 4. Shadab doesn’t want to bowl 4 overs every game vs the top 8 teams, nawaz doesn’t want to bowl at the back end of the innings. Swim doesn’t want to work on his start to the innings

Hesson is right in copying other successful teams strategy.but he should understand that its pakbtram and not some good successful one.so he should not fit useless all rounders for the sake of it.he should be practical and fit only those are good.he can not take this long to figure out the useful ones .

Unfortunately, fans find refuge in statistics to assess a player, especially a few decades later when they have not watched a player play live. Every argument they have with other fans is on the basis of statistics. It is VERY hard for any player to be unselfish. And it’s because of fans, selectors, media, experts, and other people that are involved. Sanju Samson won the knockout game against West Indies, but it will be forgotten in a few months. If he had scored a century, it would be talked forever. WE as fans are the most responsible for this, as harsh as it may sound.

These A/R’s have been around for some time & Hesson was getting more out of them then anyone else did, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough and they didn’t deliver in the way he’d have liked.
The difference between Hesson & the other coaches is that he wasn’t picking these players because they were his buddies, his intentions for the team are good and Pakistan’s recent couple of tournaments were much better compared to others under the past regime.

Hesson didnt know that Shadab fails to perform? Hesson didnt know that none of shadabs deliveries fall in place, he has line and length issue? Hesson didnt know that shadabs batting is flawed, he isnt a power hitter?
Hesson even went further and dropped Abrar and kept Shadab and Nawaz. You have to be the biggest tool as a coach to drop Abrar, who is Pakistans best spinner.
They drop sufiyan muqeem for shadab. Than for the whole year Hassan Nawaz was kept part of the squad, and in the end got dropped for Nafay.
Nafay is still raw and is being given debuts.
Usman Khan is one of the worst batters to have played for Pakistan, and if Hesson didnt see anything wrong with his batting, that shows how bad his coaching was.
You guys want to give Hesson more leverage only because he is gora.

This is the reason why everyone was celebrating Shaheens 4 wickets, as he got his glory balls in, but in the death overs the team still lost it.
Shaheen wasnt even trying to field during the england match.

Shadab was a political pick influenced by Misbah’s other best friend Saqlain Mushtaq who is well connected. And even then, he performed better under this regime then under Babar.
Going pass the group stage and qualifying for a final is an improvement compared to where we finished in prior tournaments, tournaments are not defined entirely by India now are they and how long are the choor going to live of one win against them in 2021 to the point you hold the entire team hostage by selecting players that are not good enough for T20’s

Remember how certain posters cried about dosti yari squad? Same shadab, nawaz, babar and shaheen are part of the same team with same level of performance.

No coach can help this team when your premier players are failing on every big occasion repeatedly. I don't think Mike Hesson has any say in selection of big players, they all were forced on him. Mike Hesson cannot go to domestic set up to find new players. Players need to own their failures and leave

This coach had to deal with corrupt officials and prepared the best team possible, I am a bigger fan of Abrar then you but that was not Hesson’s decision, nor did he have influence over Babar’s selection or Shadab; remember, Hesson is just a stupid gorah, so discuss his on-field tactics if you will sir.

I do not know what goes on behind the scenes exactly but I feel like a lot of decisions and things we saw where not Hessons 100 percent full choices, he made some tactical errors as well of course but I think overall, who ever is making the decisions....truly making the decisions on who the playing eleven is....and who ever selected the 15 should be blamed...be it Hesson...Agha....or someone else.
I still believe the last game Pakistan played was the squad Hesson selected. We saw a world of difference, granted we did not qualify and we almost lost (mainly due to shadab and shaheen) but the team looked better.

Misbah, Saqlain, the local peer you worship had a free reign over the team, they had no plan or strategy or long term vision.

You do realise that the job of a coach is to find ways to maximise each cricketers contribution and giving them more defined roles.
- The result was that we got out the groups and reached Asia Cup final.
- We understood that PP overs must be maximsied
- We wanted to consolidate in the middle overs with proactive strike rotation and use our A/R’s to score quick fire runs late.
- We utilised a spin heavy strategy knowing how useless the pacers are because Rauf, Shaheen & Naseem can’t really relied upon.
What disturbed these plans?
- Babar Azam’s selection disturbed the plan because he wasted too many deliveries and he kept our best batter out; namely, Fakhar Zaman. However, coach had to keep playing him due to media scrutiny and campaigns to disturb the team if Babar was not picked.
- Nepotism, this was evident with the selections of Shaheen Shah Afridi & Shadab Khan and they didn’t quiet deliver either.
- The point we took from the abandoned game.
Pakistan could have made the semis very easily if Babar was out and Fakhar played from the start.
You can criticise the selections but this coach had a plan the others didn’t, unless you’re among the idiots who think Qudrat Ka Nizam & having two Test match players see out the PP is a productive long term T20 plan.

Hesson got unlucky, he thought he could pander to certain groups but still get to a point where he could field his best XI when it mattered, unfortunately that didn’t pay off on this occasion and he was too late - but maybe, the PCB will still back him hopefully because he is someone who they can work with in this toxic environment.

Yes exactly, Pakistan need a bit of someone who it date driven and plays according the match ups and etc... I think if Hesson stays, he needs to follow domestic and really look for the players he wants, its issue of playing all arounders was not bad (if he has the best) all arounders available, many teams do it and have success in T20. You need the right players, if you remove guys like shadab, nawaz, shaheen afridi, as an example and in-put arafat minhas, mehran mumtaz and abbas afridi, your all arounders look already better.
If Pakistan selected the best squad in these conditions, they might have not won the world cup, but they would make semis for sure maybe even final.
How do u know that was not his decision? Plz provide evidence.

Which one of Hesson’s tactics would I see as criminal and want him chastised for it.
I have the same cricketing mindset as these SENA teams+coaches. I totally understand their viewpoint and cricketing culture. So from that pov, what has Hesson done for me to hate him like Misbah, Saqlain or Waqar Younis?
