He had an economy of 7.41 in the Shaheen tour where others were being smashed around. Last two List A matches before this, he went for 41 and 51 runs. Where are you getting these stats from?

Usman is not worldclass talent by any mean, but he is the best we have got among the medicore resources. We have to live with it

Just my rough observation, from what I saw in the national T20 cup and against Zimbabwe.

Definitely did well against NZ’s domestic sides so I suppose it’s possible he’s improved. Will need to wait for a televised Central Punjab game before I give a verdict. He definitely bowls a couple hit me balls every over, or at least used to.

Would you play Usman instead of Shadab or instead of Imad?

Yes. We need someone who has the ablity to take wickets, he has the varition to do so. We have been thrashed in ODIs because of not having the ablity take wickets in middle overs. He is our best chance right now

I know Tayyab tahir has got some runs but he looks bang average rizwan hussain looks far superior bat then him. Rizwan has talent but was a huge let down in the national t20.

He did smack a couple on the offside. But yeah I’m not impressed with his natural ability, though he has fantastic game awareness.
I was impressed with his bowling. A classical off spinner; good action, flights the ball, gets drift and extracts turn.

Feels a bit bits and pieces right now. I’m also a little disgruntled by the fact that this guy is going to play the U19 World Cup next year and probably catapult to superstardom.

Qasim like Mubasir has a very solid technique. Both of them look very elegant when they play proper cricket shots. Also, both have an average power game.

Whats wrong with that ? If age is the issue then he won't be the first one.

Whats wrong with that ? If age is the issue then he won't be the first one.

He won’t be the first, but these days age fudging has reduced a lot, to maybe 1-2 years max. This guy I thought was overage during the last U19 world cup...

And fine, he’s overage - why is he allowed to play 2 U19 world cups rather than just one?

And if he was genuinely, genuinely only 17 in last year’s world cup, with enough time to go till the next one, then why was he picked over folks like Saim Ayub and Mubasir Khan? Both will never get an opportunity to represent the U19 team now as they’re overage.

Finally, I would be more comfortable with him getting this kind of backing if he was genuinely an A tier talent. I just cannot see that natural ability in his batting, and his bowling is not penetrative at all.

Keep in mind the context of Irfan Niazi and Mohammad Shehzad getting games while Huraira sat on the bench.

Ijaz Ahmed is properly ruining the development pathways.

In the last year or so, Usman Qadir has improved a lot as a white ball bowler.

Currently, his bowling is better than Shadab's.

Not bad :mv

Replace one of the leggies with Nawaz though.

4/32 And 28 today by Danish Aziz, helping to defend 277 for Sindh. Say what you will, the boy keeps on contributing

Haris Sohail is such an immensely frustrating player. Think he's someone who needs regular kicks up the backside otherwise the ability is there.

His lethargic attitude to fitness and weakness against short ball has prevented him from fulfilling his potential.

I was begging for Haris to do this in a Pakistan shirt just a few weeks ago. So frustrating :facepalm

Karachi, 22 January 2021:

Captain Haris Sohail scored an unbeaten 109 to lead Balochistan to a six-wicket win over Central Punjab in the eighth-round match of the Pakistan Cup powered by Servis Tyres – One-Day Tournament 2020-21 at the State Bank Stadium on Friday.

The victory has kept alive Balochistan’s hopes of a semi-final berth as they now have six points from eight games, they still need to win both their remaining matches and improve their net run-rate for a possible shot at the semi-finals.

In other matches, Khurram Manzoor’s century and Danish Aziz’s four wickets confirmed table-toppers Sindh’s semi-final berth, courtesy a 13-run win over Northern.

Southern Punjab are also well and truly in the run for a semi-final spot after beating Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by five wickets on the back of match wining contributions by captain Shan Masood and pacer Mohammad Abbas.

Balochistan vs Central Punjab – State Bank Stadium:

Young all-rounder Qasim Akram posted the maiden List A century of his career as Central Punjab fought back from 124 for five to post a 296 for eight score against Balochistan.

Qasim added 131 runs for the sixth-wicket with all-rounder Zafar Gohar who contributed 48 off 61 balls (four fours, one six). Opener Tayyab Tahir (42) was the other significant contributor. The two ensured a competitive score for their side with their unfazed approach despite the loss of early wickets.

Qasim hit 14 fours and one six in his unbeaten 108 off 81 balls, the 18-year-old made his debut in the ongoing tournament; this was his eight List A appearance.

Opener Bismillah Khan gave Balochistan a rapid start scoring 73 off 60 balls (seven fours, one six) as he laid the platform for the chase. Bismillah added 75 runs for the first-wicket with Abdul Wahid Bangalzai (11).

After Bismillah’s departure, Haris joined hands with Akbar-ur-Rehman in a 110-run partnership for the fourth-wicket, Akbar fell for 38.

Haris kept the asking rate in control as he guided his side to victory in the final over, he completed his century two balls before finishing off the game. The left-hander finished unbeaten on 109 off 99 balls, he hit five fours and as many sixes in his innings.

The defeat has broken Central Punjab’s winning run of four matches. They now have eight points in as many games with four wins and four defeats and are placed at the fourth spot in the table.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa vs Southern Punjab –UBL Sports Complex:

Southern Punjab won the toss and opted to bowl first, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were reduced to 74 for four at one stage with pacer Mohammad Abbas making early inroads. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were revived by a 76-run fifth-wicket partnership between Mohammad Haris and Adil Amin (39). The young wicketkeeper-batsman Haris scored 54 off 58 balls (eight fours, one six).

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa captain Khalid Usman made another handy lower-order contribution by top-scoring for his side with a 56-run innings. The right-hander hit seven fours and two sixes in his 50-ball innings.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were bowled out for 244 in 45.5 overs, Abbas finished with figures of 9.5-0-40-4 Leg-spinner Zahid Mahmood bowled a tidy spell taking two wickets for 28 runs in his 10 overs.

Skipper Shan Masood led from the front in Southern Punjab’s chase as the left-hander scored 91 off 112 balls (nine fours) to anchor his team’s chase. Shan added 73 runs for the first-wicket with Mukhtar Ahmed (36).

Left-hander Khushdil Shah then closed out the game in Southern Punjab’s favour with a run-a-ball 71; his innings was laced with six fours and two sixes.

Southern Punjab completed the chase with 10 balls to spare for the loss of five wickets. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are now placed at number three in the points table a place below Southern Punjab, both teams have eight points.

Northern vs Sindh –NBP Sports Complex:

Khurram Manzoor’s 26th List A century –second of the tournament, took Sindh to a 277 for six total in 50 overs. Appearing in his 153rd List A match, Khurram held the Sindh innings together despite the loss of wickets from the other end.

The right-handed Khurram, hit 15 fours and one six in his 122, he faced 138 balls. Khurram added 67 runs for the sixth-wicket with captain Anwar Ali, the best partnership of the innings.

Captain Anwar scored a quickfire unbeaten 56 off 39 balls (three fours, four sixes) to take Sindh to their competitive total. Pacer Musa Khan who took two wickets for 43 runs was the pick of the Northern bowlers.

All-rounder Hammad Azam fought hard for Northern in their reply but his 70 off 65 balls (four fours, five sixes) went in vain as Northern were bowled out on the last ball of the 50th over, 13 runs short of the target. Hammad added 65 runs for the sixth-wicket with Haider Ali who contributed 55 off 72 balls (four fours, one six).

The two got the chase back on track after the first five wickets had tumbled with 129 runs on board, however some disciplined and probing bowling by Sindh didn’t allow Northern to get to the target.

Left-arm-spinner Danish Aziz who scored a match winning unbeaten century in the previous match for Sindh took four wickets for 32 runs to spearhead the bowling effort. Pacers Mohammad Umer and Mir Hamza took two wickets each.

The victory has further consolidated Sindh’s position at the top of the table (12 points from eight games, six wins and two defeats) and they are now guaranteed one of the four semi-final spots. Northern are placed fifth with six points from eight games, they would need to win their next two games and improve their run-rate to stay in the run for a semi-final spot.

Right now, I think Usman Qadir deserves a chance in the T20 series vs South Africa.

Shadab's bowling has deteriorated a lot, he looks half the spinner he once was. Was a really good bowler up till late 2019, and unfortunately, his pursuit of batting has left his bowling to deteriorate significantly.

We need a proper leg spinner on the team, and frankly, Usman Qadir is bowling well recently, even against New Zealand A where he kept things tight. He might leak runs but he is a much better wicket-taking option. Nowadays, a spinner can go for 8 an over, but if he picks up wickets, it's all good. Being economical is a side-note, teams look for wickets more.

Qasim Akram has a lot of potential, his bowling needs to be developed more so that he can actually become a proper all-rounder, reliable with the bat and ball. Should idolize someone like Hafeez or Malik, capable bowlers and pretty good batsmen. Has a lot to look forward to, and could be a potential youngster we should keep our eyes on when the likes of Hafeez and Malik retire.

Haider Ali is doing well, but he needs a century soon. Needs to show that he can bat for a long innings and can build partnerships. 50s are good but we like to see the big scores as well.

Ijaz Ahmed is properly ruining the development pathways.

Qasim is better than irdan and shezad but hurrira is above the players mentioned

I think shadab may stil not be available for the south sfrica t20s if so perfect time to give qadir a chance to see what he can do

Saud Shakeel is pretty decent blower and can be used as a sixth blower in ODI. I would remove Shahdab if he is not 100% and play Saud @ 4 and Rizwan @ 5.

Southern Punjab’s Muhammad Imran has been fined 40 per cent of his match-fee for breaching the PCB Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel during his side’s Pakistan Cup match against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the UBL Sports Complex on Friday.

Imran was found to have violated Article 2.8 of the PCB Code of Conduct (Level 1), which reads as: “Showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during a Match.”

The incident happened in Imran’s fourth over during the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa innings when he questioned umpire’s decision of calling a no-ball while arguing with him.

Imran pleaded guilty to the charge and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Nadeem Arshad. The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Ghaffar Kazmi and Mohammad Abbas.

Most people on here were slagging off on Sindh for their test performances, have all but dissapeared for the white ball tournament :sarf

I was one of them - Sindh doing well here doesnt excuse the atrocious captaincy and management decisions in the QeA trophy.

Hats off to Sindh for performing well here, but here too it is a product of excellent performances by Khurram Manzoor, Sharjeel Khan, Saud Shakeel, and Azam Khan. Danish Aziz single handedly rescued them from the throes of defeat - that’s nota god situation to be in, to rely on one player playing the innings of his life. With a couple of those players leaving, I expect Sindh to crash and burn in the semis. Because they haven’t developed the bench much (at all).

Every other team is rotating their third opener for example - Omair bin Yousuf has played zero games. So Sindh might be winning, but it’s because other teams are more focused on player development than on winning.

Can't believe that Misbah took Musa to NZ.
How did this club level bowler play for Pakistan.
Even in domestic cricket, he is being taken to cleaners and is getting dropped. Rightly so, but Misbah Messiah didn't think so. Misbah should have let him play full domestic season and he would have got much needed experience of playing 4 day cricket. Now, he will have to wait for another season.

Cant believe how poor our resources are atm. Hacks like khushdil and Talat feature in our national team plans.

Chasing 69* by Rohail Nazir (and judging by the scorecard it seems the match was finished with a six!), Haider Ali with a handy 53, Mubasir Khan taking the wicket of Haris Sohail, and a comfortable victory.

It’s hard not to love Northern’s brand of cricket.

Watched Zahid Mehmood today, wasn’t very impressed. Worse than Shadab purely as a bowler, but can’t bat or field either.

Pitches are too flat but i really like Usman Qadir and hope he plays red ball cricket too. Last 6 months he's really come on leaps and bounds

Sindh continued their winning streak in Pakistan Cup powered by Servis Tyres – One-Day Tournament 2020-21 as they chased down a 349-run target courtesy an unbroken sixth-wicket partnership of 145 runs between captain Anwar Ali and Saad Ali against Southern Punjab at the State Bank Stadium Karachi on Sunday to further consolidate their position at the top of the table.

This was Sindh’s seventh win in nine games and they now sit pretty at the top of the six-team table with 14 points and a confirmed spot in the semi-finals.

In other games captain Rohail Nazir’s unbeaten 69 helped Northern beat Balochistan at the NBP Sports Complex, the loss ended Balochistan’s hopes of a semi-finals berth. Iftikhar Ahmed starred with an all-round performance as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa defeated Central Punjab by 69 runs at the UBL Sports Complex. The victory has ensured semi-final progress for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Southern Punjab vs Sindh – State Bank Stadium:
Sindh won the toss and opted to field first. Southern Punjab batsmen made full use of the batting friendly conditions by posting a 348 for four total in the allotted 50 overs. Captain Shan Masood led from the front as he posted the 13th List A century of his career. The left-handed scored 125 off 141 balls, hitting 13 fours and one six.

Shan added 200 runs for the second-wicket with Sohaib Maqsood who scored a scintillating 130 off only 79 balls, his second century of the tournament. The right-hander played a series of attacking shots smashing as many as 10 sixes besides hitting nine fours in his innings. Sohaib who has been in fine form in the event has now scored 433 runs in nine innings at 48.11.

Hussain Talat contributed a quickfire 46 off 35 balls to help Southern Punjab to their formidable total. Fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain took two wickets giving away a mere 38 runs in his 10-over spell amid the onslaught by the Southern Punjab batsmen.

Sindh got off to a cautious start as openers Khurram Manzoor (34) and Ahsan Ali (18) added 39 runs for the first-wicket. A 75-run partnership for the third-wicket between Asad Shafiq (62 off 61 balls, seven fours) and Saad Ali provided the platform for batsmen to follow with the experienced Asad scoring a fine half-century for his side.

Left-hander Danish Aziz continued his fine batting form as he contributed 65 off 61 balls (eight fours, one six). Captain Anwar Ali joined Saad with the score at 204; the two took the attack to the Southern Punjab bowlers in pursuit of the big target.

Both batsmen kept the asking rate in control by scoring important boundaries; they completely dominated the hapless Southern Punjab bowlers in the final stages of the match, completing the chase in 46.5 overs with 19 balls to spare.

Saad remained unbeaten on 78 off 54 balls (nine fours, one six). Anwar finished 69 not out, he faced a mere 34 balls and hit three fours and five sixes.

Anwar and Saad were jointly awarded the players-of-the-match award. Southern Punjab are still in the hunt of a semi-final spot despite the loss, they are currently placed at third position with eight points from nine matches.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa vs Central Punjab –UBL Sports Complex:

Central Punjab won the toss and opted to field first, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa posted 328 for nine in 50 overs. Fakhar Zaman top-scored with 92 off 95 balls with the help of eight fours and three sixes.

Fakhar added 145 runs for the third-wicket with Iftikhar Ahmed who scored 76 off 71 balls with the help of four fours and five sixes.

Adil Amin made a 51-run contribution off 43 balls (two fours, three sixes). Left-arm-spinner Zafar Gohar took three wickets while Qasim Akram took two wickets.

Iftikhar (player-of-the-match) followed his batting contribution with a four-wicket haul with his off-spin bowling that ensured a 69-run win for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as Central Punjab were bowled out for 259 in 44.3 overs. Iftikhar was well supported by left-arm-spinner Asif Afridi who took three wickets for 65 runs in his 10 overs.

Young all-rounder Qasim Akram who made his maiden List A century in the previous game made another important contribution for his side scoring 67 off 76 balls (five fours, two sixes). Qasim top-scored in an otherwise unimpressive Central Punjab batting effort.

Raza Ali Dar scored 50 off 74 balls (two fours) whole opener Rizwan Hussain scored a blazing 46 off 23 balls (seven fours, two sixes) but failed to make most of his promising start as his demise derailed Central Punjab’s chase.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who now have 10 points from nine matches are through to the semi-finals while Central Punjab who have eight points from nine games would need to win the last match to stay in the last-four hunt.

Balochistan vs Northern –NBP Sports Complex:

Northern won the toss and opted to field first, Balochistan were reduced to 98 for four after pacers Waqas Ahmed and Athar Mehmood made early inroads. Balochistan were rescued by a 136-run fifth-wicket partnership between Akbar-ur-Rehman and Ayaz Tassawar. The right-handed Akbar scored 75 off 89 balls with the help of four fours.

Left-handed Ayaz took the attack to the bowlers in his unbeaten 82 off 68 balls (six fours, two sixes). Ayaz’s innings propelled Balochistan to their eventual 249 for six total. Waqas and Athar took two wickets each for Northern.

Northern were hardly troubled in their chase after openers Taimoor Sultan (24) and Haider Ali provided the team an 87-run start. Haider scored 53 off 54 balls with the help of eight fours. Northern received a minor jolt when they lost their third-wicket with 100 runs on the board.

At this stage the experience Umar Amin was joined by captain and player-of-the-match Rohail Nazir. Umar scored 47 off 59 balls while Rohail batted with composure and responsibility to take his team to the target with an unbeaten 69 off 84 balls (five fours, two sixes).

Hammad Azam provided the finishing touches with an unbeaten 30 off 16 balls (two fours, one six). Northern completed the chase in the 47th over, left-arm-spinner Mohammad Junaid took two wickets.

The win has kept Northern alive in the tournament as they now have eight points after nine games and still have an outside chance of qualifying for the semi-finals. Balochistan who endured their sixth defeat today are now out of the semi-final race.

Hasnain only gave 38 runs in his 10 overs where Southern Punjab scored 348 runs....... Why is he not in the national team in place f Haris Rauf?????

Lol give it time. He's been not even been close to consistent yet and both his wickets came off slogs.

Please enlighten me with what Haris Rauf has done? Hasnain is definitely not ready for test cricket but so is Rauf. My point is if you want to encourage someone to be in the team but not in the playing 11 to give them taste of the game then I would prefer Hasnain to be there then Rauf.

so they chased 349 in 46 overs with 5 wickets in hand on a ground where the boundary is like 9 meters away wow

Lol, neither should be anywhere near the test team right now.

Pitches are too flat but i really like Usman Qadir and hope he plays red ball cricket too. Last 6 months he's really come on leaps and bounds

He is good but there's no semblance of line or length in his bowling

I don't think he'll ever become a test bowler with that inconsistent line, length

As of now he fits in perfectly into LOIs but still that terrible loose balls of his will cost Pak around 70-90 runs per innings
Don't think Pak can afford it

Really not many positives to take from this year's Pakistan Cup. You can't play on these size grounds and see who are your futur good players. It's a totally different game.

TBH I'd rather Hasnain was playing cricket, which he will in the Pakistan Cup, and not just sitting on the bench like Rauf is likely to do during the South Africa series.

Yes this is logical and I am happy Hasnain and other bowling candidates are at least playing 50 over matches versus either sitting or playing T20 matches where you practically learn nothing about setting up a batsman.....

Sindh will play Central Punjab in the first semi-final on Friday 29 January while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa take on Northern in the second semi-final on Saturday 30 January. Both semi-finals will be played at State Bank Stadium.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa vs Balochistan – State Bank Stadium:

Centuries by Adil Amin (sixth List A hundred) and young wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Haris (maiden List A hundred) took Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to their formidable 370 for nine score. The two added 227 runs for the sixth-wicket to rescue their side from a wobbly position of 99 for five.

Adil faced 90 balls and struck nine fours and five sixes in his whirlwind batting effort. Haris provided him immensely valuable support, he hit 11 fours and two sixes in his 75-ball innings. Fast bowler Mohammad Wasim Jnr hit a breezy 24 off 10 balls as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa finished with huge score.

Pacers Gohar Faiz and Taj Wali took four and three wickets respectively for Balochistan.

Balochistan’s Imran Farhat signed-off from professional cricket with a scintillating 123 off 88 balls. The left-hander who was making his last-ever appearance hit 17 fours and three sixes as Balochistan fell a mere 23 runs short of the target as they were bowled out for 347 in 47 overs.

After adding 119 runs with Bismillah Khan (42) for the first-wicket, Imran added 90 runs for the second-wicket with Haris Sohail (40).

Akbar-ur-Rehman (50 off 52 balls, three fours) and Ayaz Tassawar (53 off 49 balls, four fours, one six) scored half-centuries for Balochistan but they failed to take their side to the target. Balochistan lost their last seven wickets for addition of 27 runs as the lower-order failed in their pursuit of quick runs.

Balochistan who finished with six points were already out of contention for the semi-finals before the match began.

Northern vs Southern Punjab –UBL Sports Complex:

Northern won the toss and opted to bat first. Rohail Nazir top-scored with 88 off 71 balls, the wicketkeeper-batsman struck seven fours and five sixes in his innings. Rohail added 138 runs for the fourth-wicket with Umar Amin who scored 83 off 78 balls with the help of 10 fours.

Hammad Azam and Mubasir Khan scored 39 and 30 respectively using the long handle effectively as they helped Northern amass 337 for eight in 50 overs.

Leg-spinner Zahid Mahmood took three wickets while Mohammad Abbas took two wickets.

Southern Punjab’s chase started positively as captain Shan Masood and Mukhtar Ahmed added 127 runs for the first-wicket. Mukhtar was dismissed for 63, his innings included five fours and two sixes.

Southern Punjab started losing wickets at regular intervals after 53-run stand between Shan and Sohaib Maqsood (22) for the second-wicket was broken. Shan held the innings together and kept scoring runs at one end on his way to 141 off 128 balls, however his dismissal ended Southern Punjab’s hopes.

Shan’s innings included 12 fours, Salman Irshad, Musa Khan and Hammad Azam took two wickets each for Northern

By virtue of their victory Northern who finished with 10 points qualified for the semi-finals, while Southern Punjab were knocked out.

Sindh vs Central Punjab –NBP Sports Complex:

Khurram Manzoor’s 27th List A century helped Sindh reach 277 for six in 50 overs. Khurram remained undefeated facing 163 balls for his 143 that included 15 fours and one six.

Khurram added 159 runs for the third-wicket with Asad Shafiq who scored 85 off 93 balls with the help of seven fours.

Saad Ali with 18 runs was the next best contributor for Sindh as Khurram dominated the innings. Pacers Ahmed Bashir and Mohammad Ali took two wickets each, spinner Zafar Gohar also took two wickets while conceding 37 runs.

Central Punjab had to fight hard in their chase and pursuit of a semi-final spot as they took 48.3 overs to reach the target. Opener Tayyab Tahir top-scored with 93 off 102 balls, his innings included eight fours and two sixes.

Raza Ali Dar scored 71 off 72 balls with the help of one four and two sixes to provide valuable middle-order support during the Central Punjab chase.

Young all-rounder Qasim Akram remained unbeaten with 44 off 40 balls as he guided his side to the target along with Zafar Gohar who scored a brisk unbeaten 28 off 13 balls (two fours, two sixes). The two added 52 runs for the seventh-wicket.
