Well well. Few months back I made a thread asking why KL was being left out from T20s despite his form and talent.

Today I wish he was never selected back to play T20s.

The sixes, the thrill, the glamour seems to have affected his test batting. His dismissal in the first innings totally reflected how T20 cricket has influenced his approach.

Drop him from the T20 side. We need KL Rahul the test cricketer much more than the T20 cricketer.

Ban him from the IPL.

It has ruined him.

Just accept that he’s a mediocre batsman who can hit some nice looking shots :))

He's good enough to play all 3 formats. Just because someone doesn't score in 1 game doesn't mean they should be dropped.

He needs a run of games , if he still fails after that than you can call for him to be dropped. 1 minute he is opening than he moved down to number 3 and out of the side. It does take a toll on your confidence.

What kind of logic is this?

Fail in test and drop from T20 too?

Retain in tests and drop from T20s. We have two very different T20 and test teams. How many of our regular T20 players are successful at test cricket anyway?

He’s a great talent and will come through if persisted with.

Sadly I don’t see that with Muammar Kohli and Ravi Mobuto.

Why?

If he is not good enough for T20, drop him from T20

If he isn't good enough for test then drop him from test.

Why sacrifice one format for another where results are uncertain.

Perhaps needs to shuffle the batting line up a bit. He looks more like a number 5 or 6 even though he may have began as an opener like in the WI tour. His lack of discipline outside the off stump is what's costing him.

India have a problem at number 3 because neither Pujara (with his timeless test style batting) and Rahul are the answer. Kohli's the star batsman and his best position is 4, so needs to stay there in order to get the most out of him.

Throw him out of the only format wgere he is doing well as he now has a clear role in the team!

Give him 10 ODIs and 2 Test series at a stretch as opener and then judge him. Batting at 3 in T20s, 4 in ODIs and 3 in Tests in and out of the team - how can anyone settle down when he is always playing for his spot.

Need to back him for 20 ODIs and 5 test series straight, and this needs to be communicated to him that team management has confidence in him.If it doesnt work then he is a mental midget and move on.

I'm pretty sure dropping him from T20 would destroy whatever confidence he gained from that 100. Which obviously wont be good for him no matter the format.

Actually drop him from tests and let him score runs in LOI... That may build up his confidence which he can use in tests a couple of seasons down the road.

Everyone knows he is very talented, and it's visible but again so was Robin Uthappa and achieved nothing close to Kohli.

No batsman right now in Indian team has any hunger except Kohli which is a big issue for us, hoping the young guns are humbled by Dravid before they reach this level.

Pathetic excuse. This is 2018, batsmen are expected to be able to adapt to different formats, if this guy is truly supposed to be great then he should be able to acclimatize to whatever format.

He clearly is one of the most talented under 30 batsmen playing in the world, this format excuse won’t cut it.

He is suffering from a mental block due to getting in, out and in from the team again and again.

He needs to be given a consistent run of 5 tests and 10 ODIs and then make any decision against him. However, it is a non-surety that this will happen.

The benefit of him giving that much chance will be that he can produce fantastic results for India in the future. You look at R Sharma in ODIs and his results. That explains all.

Yeah fans are quick to judge. Conditions are tough for batting and England have a quality attack. I would judge him after 6 innings.

What is the evidence Rahul can bat well in swinging or seaming conditions.

Him and Pujara are India's best 2 bats in rank turners (Kohli is better than both on slow turners) and he will be good in Australia on bouncy tracks.

Play him in tests in conditions which work for him.

Then who else do we play in places such as England?

So England should drop Butler also from T20 too as he failed in his own home condtions twice? Desi fans and their knee jerk reactions :)

Seems to be going the umar akmal route way too early. Not only his test record his abysmal but he is also a poor ODI batsman.

However, i do think the lad is talented, my only issue is with indian fans abusing Kohli and rating Rahul over him.

Buttler was never a test batsman to begin with. KL is a crucial component of our test team, and started off as the most promising test batsman of this decade.

Clock is ticking. It is now or never for him. Most of the great batsmen were able to start performing at this age. If he fails to establish himself by next WC, he's going to end up like Karthik.

Problem is he may not get 6 innings in a row. Kohli changes the team too regulary in tests.

Based on what? Has he ever scored anything in conditions similar to this? Even Pujara can score double centuries on subcontinental conditions.

His test record is fine for current standards with 39.2 average with 4 100s and 11 50s and a highest score of 199 against England.Just need to curb his attacking instincts like Kohli in Tests.

Has nothing to do with T20 cricket.

I've made similar criticisms about Rahul from day one. Take a step back and look at how he bats, you'll notice the flaws in his approach. It only looks good until the opposition starts outsmarting you and feeds the balls where they know you'll succumb to the temptation.

These are not technical issues (he's quite solid in that regard) but more shot selection. He doesn't play the percentages and that's a disaster waiting to happen.

This. Now, the onus of correcting that is completely upon him.He can take help of Kohli who has gone through same thing earlier or consult with numerous batting coaches in India.

Dropping him from any format right now will hurt his confidence. He needs to be reassured by the captain and coach that his spot is not under threat.

Easy to pick on KL Rahul right now especially since he replaced Pujara in the team. However, KL Rahul needs to be persisted with. He has the ability to take the game away from the opposition in a session and that is a quality that isn't readily available. India handled Rohit Sharma really badly in Test cricket, who I believe, could have been equally dominant in Tests as he is in ODIs. They shouldn't let KL Rahul become another Rohit Sharma. Give him one spot to bat for 15 Tests and then judge if he's good enough to make it or not.

The IPL effect beginning to bite India in the butt. Several players being picked for the IPL performances and founding wanting in the test arena. Rahul, Pandiya, Karthik are the most obvious examples but maybe Rahane and Umesh too.

T20 has ruined him. Needs to be dropped from that format forever and asked to focus on tests.
