The BCCI selectors on Friday announced three different India squads for the upcoming limited-overs series against Australia during which the two teams will play in two T20Is followed by a five-match ODI series.

After a five-match rest, Virat Kohli returns to lead India in the home series while Punjab legpinner Mayank Markande has been given a maiden India call-up and has been included in a 15-man T20I squad.

For the first two ODIs, a host of players have been recalled including the rested Jasprit Bumrah, Siddarth Kaul (first two ODIs) and KL Rahul. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will replace Kaul for the remaining three ODIs.

From the squad that beat New Zealand 4-1 in an away ODI series, allrounder Ravindra Jadeja, left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed and rookie batsman Shubman Gill have been dropped from the 15-man sqaud.

The series which runs from March 2-13 is India‘s final international assignment before the IPL starts ten days later, after which Kohli’s squad will fly to England for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup starting May 30.

Gill, Mohammed Siraj have been dropped while left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav has been rested for the two T20Is while right-arm pacer Umesh Yadav has been recalled.

While Dinesh Karthik has kept his place in the T20I squad, he has been dropped from the ODIs. This could be an indication that Rishabh Pant has won the battle for the second wicketkeeper-batsman’s slot in India’s squad for the ICC World Cup 2019 to be played in England later this year.

Rahul has also returned following his suspension for a controversial appearance alongside teammate Hardik Pandya in a India chat show. After the suspension on the duo was lifted, Hardik Pandya was flown to Australia to join India squad in New Zealand while Rahul was asked to ply his trade for India A in domestic cricket.

Markande spun India A to an innings victory over England Lions on Friday with a five-wicket haul in the second innings. He came into the limelight while churning out impressive performances for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed has also been dropped from both the squads.

India’s ODI squad : Virat Kohli (capt), Rohit Sharma (vc), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Vijay Shankar, Rishabh Pant, Siddarth Kaul (first two ODIs), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (last three ODIs)

Terrible decision to drop Gill but good to see Rahul back in the squad, a talent like him should be persisted with.

So Gill is dropped after two matches.

No way he should have been in squad in first place. Too raw for worldcup and far less time. After worldcup he will get long time and will keep improving.

Seems like a good decision to me, right now he will be under pressure to perform not to mention with this being the last series before worldcup india would rather try out players it wants to take to the worldcup rather than wasting a spot on gill who isn't going to england anyway.

Really like the markande selection, should be persisted with post world cup too.

Glad they dropped Gill! Can't risk having him in the WC19 squad! He's simply not ready yet!

Yep. Gill is not needed now. Ideally Shankar and DK should have been in 15 instead of Rayadu and Gill.

Virat Kohli (capt), Rohit Sharma (vc), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Vijay Shankar, Rishabh Pant, Siddarth Kaul (first two ODIs), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (last three ODIs)

6.Rishabh Pant

8.Bhuvneshwar Kumar
9.Kuldeep Yadav
10.Yuzvendra Chahal
11.Jasprit Bumrah

that is a gun side.

They will use the "backup opener" excuse. Vihari, Agarwal are all better than him.

Why would you need a backup opener? Even if one of Rohit/Dhawan get injured , we have Pant/DK or even Rayudu to do the job temporarily. KL is such a waste of a spot.

They will never give up on Rahul. On paper he looks a perfect No.3 with Kohli at 4. But he has been a dud. I think KL is a backup for Rayudu.

a middle order of Rayudu(dud against pace), Rahul (inconsisent) and Pant (hack) will never be considered as a Gun side! Sorry!

Current squad is an absolute horrendous squad. India need Rohit/Kohli/Dhawan to be at the crease for 45 overs with this squad. It is not possible. So India has to rely on their bowling

Rahul will play in middle order.

He is a borderline hack with a gift of supreme timing and a bad technique.

A hack cannot have test hundreds in England against Anderson/Broad and in Australia against Starc/Hazlewood/Cummins/Lyon. Nope.

Even i thought he was a hack. But surprisingly he has a solid defense. Only issue with him is rotating the strike. He appears to be stuck between no scoring and hitting big ones. Ironically this worked very well in Tests. In one dayers strike rotation is key. He has some shots that played by hacks. But he has good shots too. Also good game awareness. Mentally strong.

Harsh on Gill. Everyone failed in the NZ T20's when the ball was moving.

Gill would have been amazing on the flat tracks in India. Even in WC2019, the tracks will be roads. Gill would have easily settled in.

Anyways, he will get his chance after the WC. Hopefully, the likes of Rayadu, Jadhav are permanently kicked out.

KL Rahul is lucky to have another chance so quickly. His confidence went down the toilets in the past 6 months. He is not the same guy anymore. Needed a good stint in domestics before he got a call again.

Sorry for Mayank Agarwal. He deserved a chance.

Lastly, Good to see Markande get a chance. He is a very good leggie and very handy with the bat too. He can hit a few big ones down the order unlike Chahal.

Pant is a hack of the highest order! His fancy switch hits, reverse sweeps and belly dances at crease are not going to help India in WC! Let him warm the benches! I have more trust in Rayudu saving India than this hack during a collapse!

Agreed. Pant should nudge the ball around and score 28(35) and try to remain not out. This will make him the best finisher ever. #Thaliva AKA GimpyGranpa

Apply burnol because thala is not going anywhere! He helped India win a series against Aus recently. What did this hack do in LOIs so far except his belly dances at the crease!

Gills time is not right now, he got confidence and exposure being in national side and I am sure was told by coaches and selectors why he is being dropped.. He will come into the team after the world cup.. Its not unfair his time will start after the WC the NZ series was just to give him little exposure..

Nice squad except I would drop Rayudu for Jadhav and pick Shami to replace Bhuvi.

Jadhav is a must since our batters can't bowl and bowlers are classical tailenders and Pandya albeit talented but on again, off again with the ball.

I seriously don't understand why would anyone pick Bhuvi over Shami. He is our best bowler after JB and a out and out wicket-taker.

i picked bhuvi because he strengthens the batting a bit more and he does get the new ball to nip back in

shami is good too but for number 8 i wanted to strengthen the batting too

KL Rahul scored 89 and 81 opening the batting in the 2 Tests against England Lions recently. For better or for worse, it was the right decision to take IMO. Gill is too green and it's too late to try out someone new to the ODI set-up like Mayank Agarwal.

For all the shami praise bhuvi has taken wickets at almost the same average and strike rate as shami this year. Shami bowlers better in NZ but bhuvi out classed him in the Aus series and was close to MOS himself

Yes we needed thala to chase 230 scorrs and remain not out. He of course went missing when a real score was to be chased and left it to the likes of karthik.

The only burnol should go to people putting a player over their country needs

He has test centuries in places dhoni never had in his entire career. He is What are you talking about?

The Rachakonda police in Hyderabad have beefed up security in and around the Uppal stadium ahead of the upcoming cricket match between India and Australia on March 2 amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan at the border. In a statement, Rachakonda Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said that several police teams were deployed along with personnel of the elite Organisation for Counter Terrorist Operations (OCTOPUS) force.

“The stadium is under surveillance of 200 CCTV cameras which will be monitored from the joint command and control room at the stadium. Anti-sabotage checks will continue round-the-clock until the match is over. Scanners have been installed at the stadium to detect explosives and prohibited material inside the venue. The bomb disposal team and sniffer dogs have already been pressed into service to ensure safety in the stadium and at parking places. There will be four special mobile technician teams at each gate to check the mobile phones of spectators before allowing them inside," the commissioner was quoted as saying.

The Commissioner also said that elaborate arrangements were in place to ensure that the road was cleared for the movement of VIPs. Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) said that it was extending its timings on the day of the match with its last train at 1 am, to ensure an easy commute for the spectators.

The statement by the Rachakonda police came even as the Cyberabad police in Hyderabad beefed up security in parts of the city in view of the rising tensions between India and Pakistan.

Assuring people that all precautions were being taken, Cyberabad Commissioner V C Sajjanar said in a message, “We have alerted all our officers to intensify patrolling, conduct surprise checks, intensify anti sabotage checks etc. We also kept all our force on standby too. Special police pickets have been posted in all sensitive areas. We are coordinating with other forces.”

“All necessary precautionary steps have been put in place. Our force is fully geared. There is no need to panic. Please alert everyone not to believe rumours. Your safety is our concern,” he added.

Large parts of the city’s IT sector which include the offices of several corporate giants come under the jurisdiction of the Cyberabad police.

The conflict between Indian and Pakistan escalated on Wednesday after the Pakistan Air Force violated Indian airspace in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch and Nowshera sectors. While Indian officials said that a Pakistani Air Force F-16 fighter jet was shot down in Jammu, Pakistan has claimed to have shot down an IAF aircraft.

The entire series of incidents began earlier this month after a total of 40 CRPF jawans were killed in a deadly terrorist attack in Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir on Feburary 14 after a 'fidayeen' (suicide) attacker belonging to the Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) terror outfit rammed an explosives-laden SUV into the CRPF troopers’ bus.
