Kyle Mayers - West Indian batsman

Where would you rank this magnificent innings of 200+ Vs Bangladesh in the history of Test cricket?

First man to have scored 200 in the 4th innings on debut in Test cricket

Awesome.. simply awesome. In Alien conditions.. under pressure.. 4th innings.
No one giving Windies a Chance.. a Knock out punch like a boxer. Hopefully they win this.

I didn't watch him him play but looking at the scorecard this is some innings

Is this the greatest debut in history!

This is the type of knock that even the greatest of players will never be able to replicate.
Rate this above Ben Stokes at headingly.

Didn't watch the match but wow what an innings by him.

Hats off to Kyle Mayers.:don

Surprisingly, he has First class average of almost 29 only.

Absolutely unreal, and not expected given his ordinary domestic record.

The composure he showed was remarkable, knew exactly when to attack the spinners. Has to be the greatest debut by a Test batsman of all time given the circumstances.

Highest scores on Test debut:

287 R E Foster - Eng v Aus in 1903
222* Jacques Rudolph – S Africa v Bangladesh in 2003
214 Lawrence Rowe – W Indies v NZ in 1972
214 Mathew Sinclair – N Zealand v W Indies in 1999
210* Kyle Mayers – W Indies v Bangladesh today

Kyle Mayers has become the first ever batsman to make a double hundred in the 4th innings of a Test match when on debut.

The pitch was turning he played so well. The last 100 runs he would look to get a boundary every over. he is also a clean striker of the ball he was clearing the fence with ease.

Oh my days what happened here.
I was only following the windies overall score and didn't know one man had done this!!!

The best of the best. Just hope for cricket’s sake he turns into a legend. We need a strong WI team. No other team provides the kind of flavour a thrilling WI team and their fans do.

Can't even watch highlights of this in India as it's on a useless app.

The careers of the others doesn't bode well for his future.

But if nothing else happens for him, at least he has a dazzling story behind him. Better than most people.

Brilliant debut can only go downhill from here haha. Should retire after 1 test and a legend of the game.

To score 200 batting last and chase nearly 400 what an effort well done.

As good as Rishabh Pant's at Brisbane?

:runaway:
In a way it was better than Pant as it was a double hundred on debut chasing in the 4th innings. I am sure this was the highest individual score in a winning chase in Asia.

It's a real pity not many could watch it due to the lack of accessible streams. On paper, it's better than the ones played by Stokes, Perera, Lara et al. Those that watched it implied that the ball was spitting and turning all day.

I watched only the last hour on live streaming and to be perfectly honest there didnt appear to be any snakes in the pitch. But then again if Bangladesh had class spinners like Ashwin, Bess or even Yasir then things may have been different. Nevertheless the pressure of the chase was immense.

My intention was not to demean this knock. It was more banter with the poster regarding Pant whom he loves :rabada2

But the quality of bowling and pressure that the two faced, in my view, probably makes up for the difference in runs they put up.

4th innings unbeaten double century to chase 395 on Day 5 of an away Test match. On debut. Wow.

What a stunning knock. Windies have another talent in their hands. Hopefully they won't mess this up

Don't think there was any material difference in pressure for the two innings. If anything, the fact that Mayers was on debut and playing for a weak team arguably made it tougher for him. Only a singularly biased Indian fan would rate Pant's innings above Mayers'.

He is 28 with a FC average of 30-31.

He has pulled off the greatest fluke of his career. It is only going to be downhill from here because he will never outdo this performance.

Nevertheless, it is once in a lifetime achievement and he deserves to savor it. It must be a weird feeling to play the best innings of your life on debut and then never come close to replicating it in the future.

They always do.

The Board's player management has been awful in recent times and the reason why many of the players fall out with them.

That would actually free his game up and help him play with abandon. A bit like Fakhar Zaman in CT17. Only much better :rabada2

The only pressure would be as he neared the target and that makes this an amazing feat.

There are long highlights on Youtube.

You've just described Pant's approach to a tee. The guy plays the same way regardless of match situation or conditions. So the pressure factor was irrelevant for him at Brisbane.

I don't think Pant takes on much pressure. But this is due to his character and easy going nature - most evident when he drops catches with a smile. And that's why he will last a long time despite Indian trolls.

But you don't seem to be giving him much credit. He's far from a one-dimensional player. I'd even argue that he plans his knocks - for example, today he'd made adjustments to his stance.

Anyway don't want to divert from Mayers. As I pointed out earlier, the Pant comparison was directed at @BhaagViruBhaag as a friendly joke in response to his ATG knock comment - which itself was a barb at Pant fans who'd attacked him after Brisbane trying to force him to call it an ATG knock :inti

Every kid with cricketing hopes dreams of scoring a double century on debut.... in a tough tour.... to win a test match.... in a record chase....that went down to the wire....on a crazy turning pitch

And this dude went ahead and did it. Incredible.

Mayers adds another feather in his cap during 3rd T20I vs Bangladesh

The versatility of 29-year-old Kyle Mayers again made headlines, this time in the T20I format with his maiden half-century in the format.

Winning a Test match off his own bat against the same opponent with a glorious double century back in February 2021, Mayers this time turned up the aggression, plundering 55 off just 38 balls with five sixes to give the hosts the ideal start to their chase.

He put on 85 in just 51 balls with Pooran, brushing off Bangladesh challenges in the middle overs and setting up his side's final blitz to reach the target.

What a player he is. Has some shortcomings and weaknesses but the guy is a legit star like Andre Russell and Chris Gayle (Modern white ball superstars) from West Indies.

I have a feeling he will be the next free lance West Indian gun for hire considering how talented he is!

That catch on the boundary to remove Dhawan was absolute class!

Not really superstar but good utility white ball cricketer. He doesn't have pure hitting ability of big Windies allrounders and is more about taking advantage of powerplay well and chipping in with occasional overs in friendly conditions

He is almost a throwback to the days when the West Indies had super wristy, destructive batters like Greenidge and Haynes at the top of the order. Looks so good when he gets going. And on top of that he is highly useful with the ball too. A proper batting all-rounder.

Sadly though its hard to imagine him having a particularly high glass ceiling considering he plays for the West Indies. Sooner or later you just know they are going to ruin him.

53* (42) so far in the 3rd T20I vs India

Fantastic knock today.

73 off 50 balls.

Lovely striking of a cricket ball.

1 run off 17 balls in the CPL

What is that?!

Smashes 50 in just 28 balls in his IPL debut.

Lucknow Super Giants' new recruit Kyle Mayers says he has "shown his worth" after firing the opening salvo for his team with a scintillating 38-ball 73 in his very first IPL outing. His blazing knock set the platform for LSG's formidable total of 193 for six against Delhi Capitals on Saturday, before English speedster Mark Wood (5/14) blew away the opposition batters with his express pace at the Ekana International Cricket Stadium.

"I have always dreamt about playing in the IPL. I got the opportunity today. In my mind I always wanted to get to a good start to show my ability and show my worth and I thought I did that," Mayers told reporters after his exploits on debut.

Included in the absence of South African star Quinton de Kock, the left-hander from Barbados was slow to start with, but opened up to launch a brutal assault once the Delhi Capitals introduced spin.

"It was a new surface. None of our teammates knew how this surface would play. We try to assess as quickly as possible. It was a slow start as we were trying to understand how the pitch was reacting and trying to adapt.

"I got stuck in, faced a few balls, and then just executed my plans well when the balls came in my area," said Mayers, who smashed seven sixes and two fours in his knock.

The 30-year-old Mayers was part of the Gujarat Titans side last season as a replacement for Jason Roy but didn't get a game. But he said being a part of the IPL-winning squad had helped him become a better cricketer.

"I was here last year but didn't get the opportunity to play. Being here is phenomenal for me. I didn't get the game last year but I learnt a lot just to be part of this atmosphere.

"It helped me, and when I went on to play international cricket and did well there," he said.

The West Indian all-rounder was brought for Rs 50 lakh.
