Kylian Mbappe - An ATG in the making?

Mbappé is definitely feeling at home with the French national team. Also in goal against Austria (2-0, the second French goal from rossoner Giroud), the PSG star has already reached 28 goals with France (at only 23 years old).

In the post-match, came a dig at PSG coach Galtier: "I play differently with France. They ask me to do different things here than at PSG. Here I have much more freedom. The coach knows that we have Giroud in the pure nine role, and that allows me to move more freely in space. In Paris it is different, it is not the same. They ask me to play in the center and it's different," his words reported by AS.

Kylian Mbappe: France forward feels 'betrayed' by PSG and wants to leave - Julien Laurens

Kylian Mbappe feels "betrayed" by Paris St-Germain and wants to leave the club in January, says French football expert Julien Laurens.

The France forward signed a new three-year deal in May but now feels he made a "mistake".

Mbappe, who has scored 12 goals in all competitions for PSG this season, would prefer a move to Real Madrid.

But PSG's sporting director Luis Campos says the 23-year-old has "never talked about leaving" the club in January.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Laurens said: "He feels betrayed by the club in the sense that all the things the club promised him when he signed that new deal until 2025 have not happened.

"The promises they would sign a new striker so he could play in his best position off the striker, that Neymar wouldn't be there and he would be sold, that they would sign a centre-back, and he would be at the centre of the project. All of these things have not happened.

"We knew there were tensions and now he has made his mind up and he doesn't want to be there. He feels he made a mistake by extending his contract and he should have left in the summer, now he is looking at the January transfer window at where he could go."

World Cup winner Mbappe has lifted 11 trophies at PSG, including four Ligue 1 titles, since joining from Monaco initially on loan in 2017.

On Friday, he topped the Forbes list for highest-earning footballers - the first time someone other than Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo has been number one for nine years.

"Clearly in his mind something is broken between him and the club," Laurens added.

"Real Madrid were prepared to come in the summer and sign him as a free agent. They must still have the money to buy him and also for the wages.

"Would Chelsea come in for him? Would Manchester City? What about Manchester United under Erik ten Hag?

"It's one thing he wants to leave but it's another who can afford him and how much PSG want for him. PSG are now in a strong position. He may have to stay until the end of the season and then see what happens in the summer."

But, speaking before PSG's Champions League clash with Benfica, Campos dismissed suggestions Mbappe is unsettled in Paris.

"I am with Kylian Mbappe every day," he told French TV station Canal Plus. "He has never talked to me about leaving in January.

"It's not a statement from the player, it's [from the press], and to have such information before a match like this is very serious. That's why I'm here, to deny and say clearly that Kylian Mbappe has never spoken to me or to the president [Nasser Al-Khelaifi] to leave PSG in January."

Campos added to RMC Sport: "Kylian is an extraordinary professional. For example, he played sick in the last match in Reims, he made the effort for the team. I see Kylian arriving with his team-mates, happy every day and with a huge desire to work."

France striker Kylian Mbappe will cost between 300-350m euros if any club wants to buy him, although Paris St-Germain have no intention of selling the 23-year-old after reports arose that he wants to leave them in January. (Telegraph)

He will eventually sign for Real Madrid.

However, I hope Perez offers him a much lower salary than what he was promised during the summer, to teach him a lesson.

If he accepts, it's fine. If he doesn't, then ask him to rot in PSG.

If Mbappé really wants to join Madrid, the one thing he needs to put in his mind is the fact that no player is bigger than Real Madrid.

Unlike at PSG, he will not get pampered at Madrid, and his few moments of childish behaviour will put him on the bench or even out of the club.

Many greats before him played for Madrid and even players like Ronaldo, Ramos and Zidane were allowed to throw tantrums like Mbappé has been doing in Paris.

He has to be careful now in his choices now.

The next great ego of football.

This guy is way overpriced and clearly thinks he is bigger than the club he plays for. That’s a massive red flag.

Real Madrid (or any other football club) should not go near him with a barge pole.

Kylian Mbappe: 'Zero chance' of France striker leaving Paris Saint-Germain in January transfer window

Paris Saint-Germain are adamant that there is "zero chance" of Kylian Mbappe leaving in January and have denied reports they created fake social media accounts to attack the forward.

French online newspaper Mediapart says PSG have used a communications agency to create fake social media accounts to attack football figures, including Mbappe.

The club responded to the claims by saying: "Paris Saint-Germain completely and totally denies the claims of Mediapart.

PSG is a global brand and engages with social media agencies all around the world all the time - local and international - to promote and celebrate the great work of the Club, its people and partners - like every business.

"The club has never contracted with an agency to undermine any person or institution."

A senior source at the club added: "Do you really think we hired an agency to attack our own players? Above all Mbappe?

"We have spent the entirety of his career charming him and encouraging him to stay, including most recently getting President Macron involved. But at the same time we have been trolling him? It's a joke.

"If there was an agency that was doing things of its own accord, then that's for them to answer and we will investigate - but absolutely nothing has been done at the direction of the club."

A source close to the player told Sky Sports News: "He wants to leave every week," when asked if his desire is for a January exit.

Asked how this will play out, the source added: "They will probably kiss and make up, but this will keep flaring up again and again".

Reports in Spanish media on Tuesday claimed that Mbappe was going to a bullfight in Madrid today. But, according to his social media, Mbappe will be at a charity event in Nimes this afternoon.

PSG sources believe the stories about Mbappe are coming out of Spain and are intended to destabilise PSG. They claim the reports are "utter nonsense" and "complete rubbish".

Mbappe is unhappy that he's playing through the middle, while his relationship with Neymar is not great and he's disappointed with the club's transfer strategy.

Striker Kylian Mbappe says he "never asked to leave" Paris St-Germain amid reports he wanted a move away from the French capital in January.

Probably my favourite footballer at the moment.

What pace, what skill.

Absolutely brilliant player.

He is a very unlikeable player but one can't deny his talent. He has the potential to win many Ballon Dors. He just needs to leave PSG, as playing in the French League will never get him the recognition that his talent warrants.

Real Madrid would still be willing to sign France striker Kylian Mbappe, 23, from Paris St-Germain, but only if certain conditions are met. (Sport, via 90 Min)

Kylian Mbappe has had nine more shots (16) and five more shots on target (seven) than any France player in the 2022 World Cup.

Only Just Fontaine (13) has more World Cup goals for France than Mbappe (seven), who scored twice in the round of 16 in 2018 against Argentina.

Powerful strike in the game against Poland!

All the makings of an ATG

The two goals today were outstanding. I actually didn’t think that he had his best game up to that point. If he can score two great goals while not playing particularly well, that’s quite the frightening prospect I would suggest.

The way he cuts in from the left hand side is so reminiscent of Thierry Henry. He is truly his heir for France with the aura & fear factor that he carries. Similar pace as well but he is even more talented.

He is almost like a mix of Henry & R9. Scary player.

I think he has the golden boot in the bag unless England upset France in the QF. The golden ball would be between him & Messi if both of them make the final & also the Ballon d’Or.

Neymar should be kicking himself, he was supposed to be the next big thing after Messi-Ronaldo but everyone knows who it is going to be now.(yes I know the age difference)

Neymar left Barcelona at the age of 25 to step out of Messi’s shadow & win the Ballon d’Or.

PSG was the perfect move for him. A rising powerhouse where he would become the main man.

Little did he know that they will also end up signing the hottest young property in French football in the same summer & who will also develop a massive ego & desire to be face of the club.

He reminds of off the Brazilian Ronaldo at his best. Yes he is an ATG in the making providing he can stay fit and free from controversy. This is easier said then done when you are surrounded by so much money and fame.

World Cup 2022: Kylian Mbappe - seven ways he's France's superstar

England will meet France in the World Cup quarter-finals on Saturday (19:00 GMT kick-off) - and one player in particular is on everyone's mind.

Paris St-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe is arguably the best player in the world right now, and a lot of the talk has been about how he can be stopped by Gareth Southgate's Three Lions.

BBC Sport picks out the seven things you need to know about Mbappe and his meteoric rise...

1. He is the second most expensive player in history

In 2017, Mbappe joined PSG, initially on loan, from Monaco, before making the move permanent a year later for 180m euros (£166m).

It is still the second most expensive transfer ever. The only deal that cost more was Brazil forward Neymar's 222m euros (£200m) move to PSG from Barcelona in 2017.

Mbappe has gone on to score 190 goals in 237 games for the French champions, where he plays alongside Neymar and Argentina great Lionel Messi.

2. He is a serial winner

In seven years as a professional, Mbappe has won:

- 2018 World Cup
- 2020-21 Uefa Nations League
- Five Ligue 1 titles (four at PSG, one at Monaco)
- Three French Cups
- Two French League Cups

Individually, he has won the Golden Boy award - given to the best under-21 player in Europe's top flights - in 2017, been named French player of the year twice, and Ligue 1 player of the year and young player of the year three times. He was also judged to be the best young player at the 2018 World Cup and been Ligue 1's top goalscorer in four seasons.

And he helped PSG reach their first Champions League final in 2020, though they were beaten by Bayern Munich.

3. He's used to lighting up a World Cup

Mbappe was just 19 when he played a key role in France's run to glory at Russia 2018, scoring four goals along the way.

His strike in the 4-2 win over Croatia made him the second teenager to score in a World Cup final, after Brazil legend Pele in 1958.

Mbappe is the the leading scorer in Qatar so far with five goals, and his overall tally of nine at World Cups means he has already overtaken Diego Maradona, who scored eight for Argentina, and Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo.

Indeed, he is the youngest player to score nine World Cup goals, breaking a record held by Eusebio, who scored eight for Portugal by the age of 24 years and 182 days.

4. He was a record breaker at a young age

Mbappe, who was born on the outskirts of Paris and started out at his local team AS Bondy, made his first-team debut for Monaco in December 2015.

Aged 16 years and 347 days, he became the youngest player in the club's history - beating a record set by France and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry in 1994 - when he appeared as an 88th-minute substitute against Caen.

Three months later, he became the club's youngest scorer with his first senior goal against Troyes. Who set the previous record? Henry.

5. He's super quick

During France's 3-1 last-16 win over Poland, his top speed was recorded at 35.3 km/h and before Sunday's game, only six players had recorded faster sprints at this year's World Cup.

In September, Ligue 1 said he was the fastest player in the league this season at 36km/h.

To put that into context, Jamaican Olympic sprinting legend Usain Bolt set his 100m world record of 9.58 seconds in 2009 with an average speed of 37.58km/h.

6. He turned down a big-money move to Real Madrid last summer

After a long courtship from Real president Florentino Perez and agreeing a financial package with the La Liga giants, Mbappe decided to stay in Paris and sign a new three-year deal.

According to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, both clubs were willing to pay 150m euros (£127m) as a signing-on fee.

However, he has not ruled out a move to the Spanish and European champions in the future, telling the BBC in May his Real Madrid dream was "never over".

7. A humble global star

In October, Mbappe topped the Forbes list for highest-earning footballers - the first time someone other than Messi or Ronaldo has been number one for nine years.

It is estimated that he will earn $128m (£115.2m) this season.

Mbappe is also popular on social media, with a combined following of about 100 million on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

He was also named alongside Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar as the most influential footballers on Instagram due to play at the 2022 World Cup.

His iconic folded arms and knee-slide celebration have featured on the Fifa 21 game and he was reportedly the youngest athlete to appear on his own on the cover, before returning for the 2022 edition.

After winning the World Cup four years ago, Mbappe announced he had donated his entire £380,000 wage for the tournament to a children's charity.

Not at his best in the last 2 matches but he is always a threat and such an intelligent footballer.

His pace is frightening.

I rate him higher than Neymar.

I reckon he'll steal the show in the final. I hope I'm wrong though because I want Argentina to win it for Messi.

He is a special player who will break many records. I just hope he lets Messi win the final. He will have plenty of opportunities to win another world cup. While this is Messi's final chance to get his hands on that elusive world cup trophy.

Kylian Mbappe has just the four league titles to his name so far. And he's not won the Champions League at all. At 23 too! I don't know how he dare show his face in public.

In his club career to date, he has 217 goals in 297 games. Not too shabby.

In international football, though, he already has the one big title - a World Cup winners medal from 2018 - along with a Nations League crown from 2020-21.

This final does feel somewhat like a passing of the torch. Messi handing over to Mbappe to carry the tag of possibly the world's best forward into the future.

Every great sportsman needs a rival, though - someone to drive them to heights they may otherwise not achieve. Messi had Cristiano Ronaldo. Who is going to Mbappe's nemesis? Erling Haaland?

Underwhelming against England, mediocre against Morocco, and anonymous against Argentina.

Not exactly blown the knockout stages away.

He has ATG pace but a lot of greats had that in their peak, I still think he will get better and end his career as a more rounded footballer, regardless of context his tally in World Cups is excellent and he has started his career amazingly well, definitely the next big star in football

England and their so called golden generation are yet to play in a final since 1966, never mind winning the big one. The country doesn’t have a player with Mbappe’s talent really and it is not in the DNA to have that grit needed to win trophies.

Haha! He showed me. What a double.

One of the best goals in a World Cup final .

Don’t be surprised if he finishes off Argentina before 90 mins

Special special goal, hilarious how the neighbours are so upset! England can enjoy this masterclass in a final from their TV screens, they wont ever get close to the real deal! delusional fans

England doesn’t have anything to do with this discussion, I have no idea why you so quickly jump into something about Leeds United or England when I express an entirely unrelated opinion on football. Grow up.

Well you did say Mbappe was underwhelming against England.

Don't write off legends and greats.

Mind the English opinion, they can’t comprehend the greatness of such players because we’ve never seen such a gem on these shores!

Nerves of steel.

Hasn't even broken seat today.

It's been like a training session and he's got a hat-trick.

Brilliant performance to get a hat-trick when your team is 2-0 and 3-2 down, his time will come again.

He is special. He hopes he leaves PSG soon. He is made to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona.

He sure is, he will eclipse everyone pretty soon, just need to stop playing games outside of the field.

Deserved the Golden Boot and was the stand out performer in the game. It was him vs Argentina today.

One of the greatest ever performances in a final.

He'll go on to overtake the goal scoring record in World Cup matches with ease.

Mbappe can surpass Maradona, Pele, and Messi.

He already has 12 World Cup goals at the age of 23 (just 5 goals away from being the all-time world cup top-scorer).

Yup plus no one can say he doesn’t perform in KO games anymore after today.

He will get at least 25 goals at world cups, but will he surpass them in overall achievements by playing for PSG? No, and that is why he needs to leave PSG soon. He is nearly 24 and is about to start the prime years of his career. He can't be wasting the prime years playing in France.

I think he should get an offer from a major club soon. Barcelona or Real Madrid perhaps.

Yep he needs to leave PSG, at this point money or control should not be his priority, he is probably set for life in terms of money even if he stops playing today, he needs to work on his legacy.

He had an offer from Real Madrid, but chose to stay at PSG because they gave him a record breaking offer.

I see.

I expect him to move to La Liga or English Premier League soon.

French league sucks. PSG is for newbies or players close to retirements.

He needs to make sure he doesn't do a Neymar, who spent the prime years of his career (25-31) playing in the French league.

Good player but for some reason I don’t like him :))

His football is mesmerising but his arrogance knows no bounds.

He got humbled today though after having said this recently:

"The advantage we have in Europe is that we play among ourselves with high-level matches all the time, such as the Nations League.

"When we arrive at the World Cup, we are ready, where Brazil and Argentina do not have this level in South America. Football is not as advanced as in Europe. That’s why at the last World Cups, it's always the Europeans who win."

Yes, not the most humble or likeable but what a superstar. To score a hattrick in a WC final and still come away as a loser is awfully harsh. Only the second WC final hattrick in history and the first is questionable.

But his second goal was magical, the technique and skill to lash the ball the home on the volley. Pure artistry, not to mention the context of the game at time, the great man rose to the occasion and dragged his country back in it after they look dead and buried for 80 minutes.

What is so wrong with playing with PSG? it makes sense for him not just financially but given that he is born in France with most his family there. PSG are not some pound shop club either, they have put money where there mouth is to lure some big names and have consistently competed well in the Champions league. Just look at some of the so called big clubs with rich history in the EPL who are fortunate to qualify for the Europa, what kind of legacy are you carving playing for those clubs? Ronaldo and Messi elevated Madrid and Barcelona, those clubs obviously had their prestige as it is but they added further prestige. Mbappe can carve out his own legacy similarly by elevating PSG and their rep around the world and I believe the Champions League is within reach

French league is regarded as the worst league of the top European leagues. Playing for PSG means that he has no real competition in the French league. He can score 50 goals a season, but people will always dismiss his achievements by saying "But it's the French league." Mbappe is a special talent, but he needs to move to either the premier league or la liga in the next 1-2 years.

PM Macron was following him around on the field trying to console him after the game but Mbappe kept ignoring him. Looked deliberate lol.

PSG is actually one of the richest club. It is the only club in french league which is based in Paris. Imagine London having only one club instead of 3-4 top clubs they have now.

It can be a rich/good club but French league isn't very good.

As far as quality goes, La Liga and Premier League are the best ones.

Yes, I think at some point he will. I don't see him winning UEFA champions league with PSG.

The French league has produced world champions and more recently runners up in the World Cup though, don’t you think it adds to his rep if he does well playing in a country which people dismiss, e.g. winning champions league with a bunch of guys not considered all that because they play in a weak league and what not. If you look at the EPL on the other hand, it has not yielded the results for England in World Tournaments, it’s a strong league but some of it is superficial due to the branding in this era

Streets and leagues ahead of everybody the overrated Foden Sancho & Bellingham infact the young French stars like Randal Mauni are better than their Eng counterparts

France striker Kylian Mbappe has said he won't "waste energy on such futile things" when asked about Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez's taunts after the World Cup final.

Martinez called for a minute's silence for Mbappe during his team's dressing-room celebrations in Qatar and posed with a doll depicting the player.

"Celebrations are not my problem," Mbappe told RMC Sport.

"I don't waste energy on such futile things."

Martinez, who also made a rude gesture with the trophy for the tournament's best goalkeeper in the wake of Argentina's shoot-out win on 18 December, is reportedly due back to training with Aston Villa on Thursday where manager Unai Emery has said he will speak to him about his celebrations.

Mbappe, who scored a hat-trick in the final, emphasised that the result would not cause any issues between him and Paris St Germain team-mate Lionel Messi.

"I spoke with him after the match, I congratulated him," Mbappe continued.

"It was the quest of a lifetime for him, for me too, but I failed, so you always have to be a good sportsman."

Martinez's antics, which also included also included various attempts to unsettle Les Bleus' penalty-takers during the shoot-out, have caused consternation in France.

Former France defender Adil Rami called Martinez "the most hated man", while congressman Karl Olive said Fifa should congressman Karl Olive said Fifa should rescind his best goalkeeper award.

Mbappe scored a late winner against Strasbourg on Wednesday evening as PSG moved eight points clear at the top of Ligue 1.

The striker, 24, won the World Cup's Golden Boot with eight goals and is currently top of the French top-flight scoring charts with 13 goals.

Such a great attitude from Mbappe!

This young man continues to be impressive.

Paris St-Germain were prepared to let France striker Kylian Mbappe, 24, join Liverpool last summer but he rejected the potential move amid reports linking him with Real Madrid. (Athletic)

He must leave PSG at the end of this summer, he cant go down the Neymar 'underachiever' path and waste his best years in Ligue 1.

Real Madrid would be great, but if he moved to Liverpool or a non-man city premier league team, that would be epic.

Paris St-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe will miss his side's Champions League last-16 first-leg tie against Bayern Munich with a thigh injury.

The France forward was injured in Wednesday's 3-1 win at Montpellier and has been ruled out for three weeks.

It proved to be a night to forget for the 24-year-old who missed two penalties and an open goal before being forced off after 21 minutes.

PSG host the German champions on Tuesday, 14 February.

Mbappe will also miss his side's French Cup tie against Marseille on 8 February and a Ligue 1 game against Monaco three days later.

The forward has scored 25 goals in 26 appearances for his club this season.

The second leg against Bayern takes place in Germany on 8 March.

Kylian Mbappe has returned to training ahead of schedule before Paris St-Germain's Champions League last 16 first leg tie with Bayern Munich.

The France forward was expected to be out for three weeks after suffering a thigh injury earlier this month.

Mbappe trained on the eve of Tuesday's heavyweight match which is a repeat of the 2020 final, which Bayern won 1-0.

Lionel Messi, who has received treatment for a hamstring problem, has also been named in the PSG squad.

The returns of Mbappe and Messi would be a huge boost for Paris St-Germain, who have lost their last two domestic matches.

Kylian Mbappe scored a club-record 201st goal for Paris St-Germain in an entertaining 4-2 win over Nantes.

He had to wait until the 92nd minute but was clinical as he turned to finish left-footed and go clear of Edinson Cavani at the top of the PSG goal list.

The France forward, who turned 24 in December, has established himself as a footballing superstar.

He has played at two World Cup finals, winning the trophy in 2018 and earning the Golden Boot as top scorer in 2022.

Mbappe, who also won the 2021 Nations League with his country, scored a hat-trick in December's World Cup final against Argentina, which France lost on penalties after a 3-3 draw.

Since joining PSG from Monaco in 2017 for a world-record fee for a teenager, Mbappe has won four Ligue 1 titles and topped the division's scoring charts for each of the past four seasons.

This season, the forward has now scored 30 goals and made eight assists - taking his total to 85 for the club in 247 games.

Congratulations.

It surprises me that he is is still playing for PSG. I think he should play in Premier League or Spanish League where he can cement his legacy further.

Paris St-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has been named as the new captain of the France national team.

He succeeds Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who retired from international football in January.

Mbappe, 24, has 66 caps for France since making his senior debut in 2017.

"Kylian meets all the requirements to have this responsibility," France manager Didier Deschamps told French TV channel TF1 in an interview to be aired on Sunday.

"On the field as in the life of the group, by being a unifying element."

The French football federation (FFF) confirmed Deschamps had named Mbappe as captain and Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann as vice-captain on social media on Tuesday.

Mbappe was the top scorer at last year's World Cup as he helped France reach a second straight World Cup final, where they were beaten by Argentina.

He scored two goals in the 2018 final against Croatia and was named as the tournament's best young player as France were crowned world champions for a second time.

Deschamps' side play the Netherlands at the Stade de France in their first Euro 2024 qualifier on Friday, before facing the Republic of Ireland on Monday.
