Find it puzzling that even the younger T20 generation can't play scoops, ramps and reverse paddles in Pakistan. Whereas the likes of Billings, Banton, and various young players from other countries can play such shots in their sleep. What's the reason?

In foreign....they spend time practising it....even for hours.....also relay catches....converting a sure 6 to a catch.....they practice these things ....it don't come by magic ..or just guts.....lot of hours spend behind this..
I don't think desi coaches or players practice these stuffs

Tape ball culture doesn't lend itself to such dinky shots, unfortunately.

Poor domestic and NCA coaches. The PCB should have ropped in an international power hitting coach by now. We are incredibly far behind the rest of the world in the limited overs format

Ehsan Mani and Wasim Khan find that to be an interesting title and +1 your post. Kamran Akmal is making some noises in the media and his YouTube channel, so he's next in line to take up a position. :batman:

Kamran Akmal - Director, High Performance Power Hitting Corp.

These strokes are best used sparingly...Kohli and Babar never play them.

Mohammad Haris played some of these innovative shots in his innings vs Northern. The shot off Amir in particular was almost ABesque. A modern day cricketer.

Another one who loves playing his dinky shots is Hasan Mohsin, but he wasnt given a chance for Sindh's 1st XI

Those Mickey mouse shots never come into play in pressure games. Why do we belittle ourselves like this. South Africa has zero World cups. All the shots ABD plays in league go out of the window when the heat is on him in big matches.

Rohail Nazir, Mohammad Haris, and Abdul Wahid Bangalzai can play these shots.

Forgot about him hes good at playing different shots

Yeah, probably not as good as the ones Banton etc play, but he loves his scoops.

Also seems a bit of an innoccous bowler but has a knack of taking wickets

Yes he should have been in the first xI hes a good prospect

Misbah was the first person to play a shot like this in a t20 match in WC 2007

:)) I genuinely think if Misbah’s shot had worked that day, he would have become an aggressive player and not the defensive hollow we see today. It’s moments like these that define a player’s psychology for the rest of their lives.

In a parallel universe where Pakistan won that game, Misbah would be lauded like Imran Khan after 1992, the PSL would have commenced a decade earlier than it did, Pakistan would have been the toast of the cricketing world after they had used the momentum to defeat us at home in the tests that followed, and India would be languishing at the middle to bottom of the rankings to this day.

Never underestimate the Butterfly Effect.

Eh....

I think romantic writers have over celebrated the 2007 final relevance. T20 success was cemented by all of the world cup which was fantastic tournament overall.

Pakistan was at different point in their nations path. PSL, at least at home was out of question.

IPL did get major boost due to that win but it would have reached its heights regardless. Maybe even more organically and with less scandals.

Actually, this deserves a thread. Let me create one in a bit.

I shiver at the thought of Shoaib Malik being an ICC tournament winning captain.

To be honest, the 2007 win definitely transformed Dhoni’s image and his focus on young players. They gave him complete autonomy to build the 2011 team and phase out some of the older players. I wonder if that would have happened if India didn’t win.

Also, if India didn’t win, would T20 have been as big of a craze in India? Just thinking in terms of how India initially disassociated itself from T20s but after that win, the foundations of IPL took root.

Douglas Marilier played them way back in 2001

He destroyed India/Zaheer Khan by playing the most outrageous cameo ever by playing nothing but these ramp shots.

Jos Buttler scooping Nortje's 156 Kph delivery towards short fine leg for a boundary and then getting knocked over the next delivery at 155 kph looking to play conventional shot is probably up there among the greatest battle that has happened in probably the greatest season of IPL.

i completely agree i know its not in the coaching manuals but pcb coaches must start to implement this...its clear we have hackers in our country and no power hitters!!

Ramps and scoops or other innovation is the way to go ..they should practice is regularly

Hussain Talat was the only one I saw playing unorthodox shots.

This. Hussain talat was scooping and reverse sweeping malik in final but sadly we are lacking here. I would like to add to names who have the modern shots:

1 Hasan Mohsin
2 Rohail Nazir

Who's overrating this thread is about innovative shots rohail does play that hence why we stated his name

Rohail's shots arent that special either, look at Haris' shots, they arent your typical scoops. The shot off Amir had shades of AB, I cant say that about any of Rohail's shots.

Off topic question - how do you make these GIFs of select moments from the game?

You just need a clip of the highlights, there are loads of websites that can convert any part of any clip into a GIF

Interesting, let me try it out. Very useful to use on any sports forum.

I disagree. AB moves along with the ball. Haris’s shot is premeditated. Don’t be fooled.

Still a ripe talent but no need for the lofty comparisons.

I'm not saying it's a carbon copy of AB's shot but there are definitely shades of it in there. Regardless, he played some shots in that innings that I haven't watched too many of our players play.

Did you see the shot rohail played against shaheen in the psl ?

Them two shots are literally identical

Agreed, I love his playing style and I hope he develops well. Razzaq is not a bad coach to have for someone like him.

Mohammad Imran of South Punjab in the final played a helicopter shot against Shinwari exactly like Dhoni did in his prime for six. Someone should post highlights of that

It’s a shame Ijaz Ahmad never got to play T20 cricket , he would have shown the world what are innovative strokes , “hathora” style !

That balance, poise, reflexes, quick hand movement, I must say, AB is probably the most innovative batsmen of all-time. Absolute Genius.

Whoever assesses his legacy only in terms of how many matches or world tournament he has win for his country must look beyond that.

Reverse scoop yea it was cool to watch.

I remember a few years back I thought I invented that shot but now I see everybody playing it. Same thing with the between the leg flick which apparently is a normal shot in women’s cricket.

Up there with the best of best.

In some ways, better than the best.

Insane bat.

Yeah against shaheen azwell who is proberly Pakistan's best bowler that shot is way harder than any of the shots haris, talat, hassan moshin played
