Why are Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan not playing the National T20 cup 2025?

All good, there is no need to respond to your messages above then. I understand your frustrations however. I've become a huge critic of Babar and Rizwan being given a free ride in the team despite ignoring domestic cricket. Although I don't know how many times they've used religion as an excuse like you said, but yeah umrah right now is special and I don't think Babar has intended it as an excuse, as according to hadith, umrah in Ramadan is like umrah with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Respects to you for retracting.
I'm just frustrated brother. These guys don't take national duty seriously. This time it's fine, I get it, Religion and devotion to God is more important then some national sport.

But since 2019 these guys don't take fc/ list A seriously. And their only playing leagues for the Money.

What's diabolical is that during Ramiz Era, Babar azam was by far the most powerful man in PCB since the chairman was literally his chamcha.

He had so much power at the time that he could directly influence the pitches. And he abused that power to make phattas so he could avg 70 and as a result our FC cricket declined as well.

No bowler wants to bowl for 80 overs on roads and due to suck tracks, you now get hacks in test cricket lol. Thankfully England eventually put Pakistan in its place.

To top it off, Despite manipulating the entire domestic structure and international structure in his favour, he himself didn't even bother to play domestic and instead went the kohli route by using star power to get gigs.

However kohli abused it in 2019 after he had achieved everything and even then he clearly became a joke in tests.

In the past Babar had enough power to simply say no to everything but post raniz era, he has lost that power and now management force him to play and prioritise national duty but he clearly doesn't want to.

And now we have idiots like aqib who think the solution is to turn every pitch in test, odi and t20 into a lottery pitch. This man wants to make all of Pakistan toss dependant.

Every future batsmen will just be tailender if this happens, pace talent will extinguish and spinners won't actually develop any skills either since on such pitches you can bowl non spin deliveries and those will spin like Shane Warne's deliveries lol.

Azaan Awais who score over 1400 runs in 24-25 season couldn't get a place in Sialkot team but Malik who 43 years old (Actually 45+) will be playing in national t20 team.

Even if Babar and Rizwan wanted to play, they shouldn't have been allowed to take any deserving youngsters place. There time is over in t20 and they should move on and focus on other formats where they still have some gas left.

110% agreed. I only came to this conclusion after the 2023 WC failure, but Babar has been instrumental in the downfall of Pak cricket in the last 4-5 years. Manipulating the pitches to his favour, lack of developing players, sticking with non-performers for multiple tournaments, never improving his game, running core players down against minnows, the list is endless.

Let's not forget, once-a-potential great in Shaheen lost his venom, skills and pace all under Babar's captaincy.

So I get it. I just hope these guys don't make it back into the team again with some good PSL performances. They're still captains after all which is ridiculous. Players who can't even make the squad captain the PSL teams

What's worse is that he wasn't even effective in this era.

He avg 70 on the same pitches were khawaja was avg 105 and Brooks avg close to 150.

This guy was still wally Hammond while everyone else was Bradman.

During Asia cup, he still manipulated the pindi pitch against Nepal. I repeat against Nepal because lamichane has gotten the better of him multiple times in psl.

This was confirmed as the day before the Nepal game both he and ramiz were seen on the pitch curating everything.

This guy single handidely killed our pace talent since none of the bowlers have the stamina to bowl more then 4 overs.

As for shaheen, he lost his venom because during Asia cup 2023, Shaheen injured his finger and was playing an entire cup with a broken finger..then afterwards as t20 captain he just wanted to be either be a t20 specialist as captain. Even after getting axed he lost interest in test and odi all together so its both their fault.

The reason why test cricket is so important is because bowlers learn how to bowl with discipline and bowl long spells and batters can improve techniques.

Yes the formats are different and not every goat batsmen in tests has been good in odi but every good test batsmen has atleast been techincally sound in odi even if they've failed

The likes of root, Smith, Younis Khan don't have anything wrong with their technique, it's just that they don't know how to adapt to the format.

But the current crop are all hacks or don't have have the technique to play. The likes of hurraira, hasebullah, imam, Abdullah etc etc aren't test material at all and hence will be hackish or have poor defense in other formats as well.

This man has ensured we have no good technical batters. Our best test batsmen saud shakeel literally can't play bounce or pace due to these phatta fc tracks being useless for pacers.

After being dropped from Pakistan’s T20 squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand, Babar Azam and Naseem Shah have decided to skip the National T20 Championship as well.

This comes in contrast to what the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selectors had suggested Babar, along with Mohammad Rizwan and Naseem Shah, who are centrally contracted players, would be taking part in the tournament.

On Thursday, it was confirmed that Babar and Naseem had withdrawn from the tournament, citing workload management and the upcoming international games as the reason.

A report by the Press Trust of India (PTI) also claims that a PCB source mentioned that the duo is prioritising the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League instead.

“Given the inconsistent policies of the national selectors, these players are aware they will be back in the national T20 side if they just turn in a few good performances in the PSL, which will also lead to them being hyped up on social media," the source said.

I came across this article. It used to be 60,000 then last edition 40,000. Now 10000? ANy chance Babar & Riz missed the tournament due to this?

PCB slashes player match fees by 75% for National T20 Cup

The PCB has slashed match fees for players participating in the upcoming National T20 Cup. Players in the tournament will be paid match fees of PKR 10,000 (US$ 35 approx.), a 75% fall from the last edition of the tournament, where players were paid match fees of PKR 40,000.

It is an even bigger cut when compared to 2022, when players were paid PKR 60,000 as match fees for the tournament. Reserve players in the squad in this edition will be paid PKR 5000 (approx. US$ 17.50) per match.

The cut in match fees feels more drastic when looking at the high spends at the PCB under current chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Last year, shortly after becoming chair, he said the money in PCB's accounts was not meant to be "locked away" and would be spent on the players and in the service of Pakistan cricket.

Since then, the PCB has embarked upon expensive but necessary stadium upgrades, and hired - and soon let go of - foreign coaches on expensive contracts, as well as five mentors on PKR 5 million a month each. It has also hosted a domestic one-day tournament that increased the prize money to participants tenfold.

A PCB official told ESPNcricinfo that the decision to cut match fees for the National T20 Cup was not an outcome of financial concerns. Instead, the PCB feels the players' earning opportunities over the season have risen with more tournaments in the domestic calendar, including the Champions T20 Cup, which took place in December 2024 (but with only five teams).

The Champions Cup format of five elite teams of players is replicated in both a 50-over and first-class tournament. With a number of players also employed by a department (for tournaments such as the President's Trophy) which pays them a monthly salary, the board believes the drop in match fees did not amount to an overall drop in earnings.

The National T20 Cup starts on March 14, with 39 matches across three cities: Faisalabad, Lahore and Multan. The final will take place in Faisalabad on March 27. Several leading Pakistan international cricketers will be unable to feature, with the national side having left for New Zealand for five T20Is and three ODIs.

Both these have always show utter disregard to the spirit of cricket.

It's funny that people call Babar a role model for young batsmen when all he has down throughout his career is promote mediocrity and when has been called out on it instead of working on his issues, he gets his SAYA fan pages and his daddy to go after anyone criticising him. Rizwan is just Rizwan, he does not care about Pakistan cricket, all he cares about is his image of looking like some pious hard worker.

Both should gracefully retire from T20Is. For some reason, our experienced players become petty and make it izzat be-izzati ka mas'ala when dropped. Instead, this is a great opportunity for them to focus on longer formats, specially Test cricket.

Younis Khan was a mediocre T20 and ODI batsman but he will remain well respected throughout his life. Even 100 years from now, some nerdy descendent of ours will look back at him with reverence because Younis retired as a Test legend. Contrast this with Shoaib Malik or Amir whose PR teams won't be able to salvage their legacy.

Yes the 2 most successful t20I batsmen should retire from t20Is a day after we got bowled out by NZ C for 90. @Devadwal @Bewal Express @mominsaigol

Then how about brining back Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akhtar back as they have very good record in T20's.... Here the team needs to be selected based on last two years of production, please share what these stalwarts have produced from April 2023-March 2025 in T20I.

Y'all are ridiculous. First the complaint was that Babar is skipping out. Now that people realize he wasn't actually missing the whole tournament, you're searching for new reasons to hate.

Yes this was a miserable batting performance, but this is the whole point. Go and find your form in domestic cricket. Fail and succeed. Just like we are trying to stay patient with the new international team, we gotta give these guys time to go and hit it off in domestic cricket. Can't expect dashing performances right off the bat. Respect the grind

It's things like this that show me that people want to just blindly hate him. Those who were bashing him for going for using an extremely valid religious excuse but coming back and immediately joining the squad should be sincere and take their criticisms back.

Unfortunately, some don't even have a good run and are discarded.
Actually it’s conspiracy against generational talent like Babar azam and muhmmad Rizwan in t20 Rizwan’s record and ability isn’t less than to gilchrisit actually somewhat better than him and What babar azam have done all these years his records speaks bout him 8 centuries and best t20 batsman ever born .It’s just malpractice behind their decline ,international conspiracy actually because every team knows well till these guys playing for pak nobody can even think of dominating pak team both won uncountable matches by their heroics .
