LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday issued a stay-order against Rs 400 million income tax recovery from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Justice Ayesha A Mailk passed the order on a petition filed by the board challenging notices for recovery of Rs 400 million income tax.
During the hearing, the boards' counsel arguing before the court submitted that the PCB was a national institution for promotion of cricket and under the government policy, it was exempted from all taxes.
He said Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had issued a notice of Rs 400 million advance income tax on occasion of international players' arrival in Pakistan. On non-payment, the FBR issued notices for recovery of Rs 400 million income tax, he added.
He contended that the notices were illegal as income tax could only be recovered from a person under the Income Tax Ordinance. He pleaded with the court to set aside the notices. He also requested for suspension of notices till final decision of the petition.
At this, the court issued a stay-order against Rs 400 million income tax recovery and sought reply from respondents.
