What's new

Lahore Qalandars (198/6) thrash Quetta Gladiators (135/8) by 63 runs in Match 10 of PSL 8

Have they nobody to replace him? Extremely surprised Basit Ali from JPL wasn't picked up by anybody

Bangalzai’s never really been hyped, just a decent first class player but if you watch him it’s pretty clear he’ll be found out if he ever plays test cricket. Is also a mental midget who can’t handle pressure on top of that. Haseebullah was a strong performer in U19 WC (although was a tuk tuk along the lines of Babar and Rizwan), and if he develops well he could have an Imam-esque career (debatable if we need that kind of player anymore).

Pakistan either produces these tuk tuks via the club cricket/‘official’ system or leg side slogging tullaybaaz aka Asif Ali from the tape ball circuit. It’s nigh on impossible for us right now to produce all format batsmen such as Harry Brook, who have a range of shots + temperament + ability to build an innings

Does Rauf not learn? He keeps getting hit for the same short nonsense.

My word. I guess some things don’t change.

Haaris and his ability to completely lose it.

Rauf having one of those "Wahab Riaz" spells. It looks really ugly when a genuine fast bowler gets tonked like that.

Rauf is bowling machine , his time is over , Swap Ihsan with him , and along with Shaheen and Naseem we are good to go , Hasnain on the bench. For both Loi formats , and with Nawaz and Shadab as spin all rounder we will have great bowling and batting depth .

Imad ahead of nawaz any day of the weak in t20s.

Quetta are crap . Who is the master mind selecting such players . Umar akmal hafeez bangalzai

Nawaz has declined massively as a bowler.

Usama Mir has emerged as a good option though.

Imagine this combo for India ODI wc,
1_ Imam
2_ Fakhar
3_ Babar
4_ Harris Sohail
5_ Iftikhar
6_ Muhammad Harris
7_Shadab
8_Nawaz
9_Naseem
10_Shaheen
11_Ihsan Ullah
Squad
12_ Saim Ayub
13_ Sarfraz
14_ Agha Salman
15_ Hasnain
I think this squad has all bases covered for Indian conditions and most versatile bowling attack of tourney i think assuming all players are fit and inform .

Imad ahead of nawaz any day of the weak in t20s.

Nah Nawaz is still better bowler i think and in Pak combo we need more of his bowling than batting , even though imad is better batter, but there isn't much between them, but Imad has gone too far against Babar publicly so don't think it will be good for team environment for having toxic player like him.

Quetta shuffling the batting order but still looking terrible.

Looks like it could be a long tournament for them.

Imad is coming back

Shakeel Sheikh is in charge. Not toxic Rameez

We have to get rid of Rizwan from both LOI formats , nothing against him and he is great anchor but we already have too many of them, Muhammad Harris is must for us as he has those extra gears .

We are witnessing a series of one sided contests now, not good for the tournament. Initial couple of matches were thrillers , not so much after that.

"Jason Roy is a top quality player and whenever he faces more balls he will score runs"

"The negative for us is the fact that the player we were all depending upon, Wanindu Hasaranga, has not come as he did not get his NOC from SLC; This has a huge effect on the team composition because if a key player that you are depending upon does not come then the whole balance of the team gets effected, so this is causing us a lot of problems"

Shaheen Shah Afridi | Player of the Match: According to me, we wanted to check our departments after the last game and Rashid's inclusion has further strengthened us. We felt anything over 170 was a good score. Credit to the youngster Tahir Baig for dealing with bowlers like Hasnain and our wishes to Shai Hope who is leaving us tomorrow and we congratulate him for West Indies' captaincy. Overall very happy with our bowlers today. My job is to give early breakthroughs from the last 5-6 years whether as a skipper or as a bowler and I felt the ball swung early on today and that's why bowled a lot fuller.

Sarfaraz Ahmed | Quetta skipper: Our powerplay starts haven’t been good. Bowlers were a bit poor today. The pressure keeps building on us and we are always chasing the game. The pitch was better today, shots came off.

David Wiese: It is a team that has backed me from the start. As long as they keep having me here, I will keep coming back. With the short side, anything with pace was easy to hit. So the idea was to take pace off. We slipped against Karachi but it’s good to have a little wake-up call. For a batting side to get skittled out and score nearly 200 today was a phenomenal effort.

A sensational all-round performance by Lahore Qalandars downed Quetta Gladiators by 63 runs at the National Bank Cricket Arena on Tuesday night. Lahore Qalandars staged a strong comeback, after losing to Karachi Kings on Sunday night, by first posting a towering 198 for six and then restricting Quetta Gladiators, who lost their second match in as many nights, to 135 for eight.

It was a formidable performance from Lahore Qalandars batters and they had an excellent start - after Quetta Gladiators inserted them – with a 49-run partnership between openers Mirza Tahir Baig (31 off 15) and Fakhar Zaman (22 off 14) off 27 balls. A sparkling partnership of 56 in 37 balls between Kamran Ghulam (21 off 17) and Shai Hope (47 off 32) followed.

Sikandar Raza (32 not out off 16) and Hussain Talat (26 off 13) made the most of the work done by their teammates towards the end and ensured that Lahore Qalandars get to their highest score of the HBL Pakistan Super League 8.

Mohammad Hasnain, who came into this match after bowling splendidly for his three for 12 against Peshawar Zalmi yesterday, had the best economy from his side (eight) in his figures of one for 32. Qais Ahmed and Odean Smith took two wickets each, but gave away 36 and 41, respectively.

With their batting clicking after a forgettable outing two nights ago, there was another silver lining for Lahore Qalandars as Shaheen Afridi, who finished with three for 22, found rhythm and bowled sizzling yorkers in his opening spell. He delivered a scorcher to Abdul Wahid Bangalzai on the third ball of the first over to trap him right in front. The ball swung back into the young right-hander and landed on his foot. He decided to refer the on-field decision of out to the third umpire only to be turned down.

That Zaman Khan was equally impressive from the other end helped Lahore Qalandars. Both fast bowlers had their fair share of LBW shouts as the pair of Jason Roy and Martin Guptill looked perplexed. Roy unleashed himself in the fifth over to smoke Haris Rauf for three sixes – which went down as the most expensive of the innings – and then played a gorgeous lofted drive over deep long off for a six off Zaman in the next over.

Quetta Gladiators might have started to believe, but Rashid Khan, playing his first HBL PSL 8 match, bowled a magical delivery to uproot Roy’s off-stump. At this juncture, Quetta Gladiators were 68 for three at 9.1 overs mark. As the scoreboard pressure mounted, Quetta Gladiators batters lost the plot and fell in quick succession as they slipped to 101 for six from 93 for three.

David Wiese removed Guptill, Mohammad Hafeez (25 off 22) and Iftikhar Ahmed (six off 10) and finished with there for 23. Rashid Khan further cemented his reputation of being a wily customer in T20 cricket and finished with brilliant figures of one for 17 from four overs.

Lahore Qalandars have won two of three matches and this was Quetta Gladiators third loss in four.

Scores in brief:

Lahore Qalandars 198-6, 20 overs (Shai Hope 47, Sikandar Raza 32 not out, Mirza Tahir Baig 31, Hussain Talat 26, Fakhar Zaman 22, Kamran Ghulam 21; Qais Ahmed 2-36, Odean Smith 2-41)

Quetta Gladiators 135-8, 20 overs (Jason Roy 48, Mohammad Hafeez 25; Shaheen Afridi 3-22, David Wiese 3-23)

Player of the match – Shaheen Afridi (Lahore Qalandars)

Did QG really put all their eggs in one basket with Wanindu Hasaranga? What a poor excuse from Sarfraz. After the success in the initial seasons, Quetta has been horrible to watch.

That's a excuse they already have Nawaz and Qais who are decent enough.

He got his line and length wrong. The batsmen took advantage of his pace, top edges went for six.
