Lahore Qalandars 2018 Squad and Discussion Thread

Mustafizur needs to be replaced with McClenaghan or with some local guy. If they go for local guy than umar can be replaced with delport

Mustafizur has been a huge disappointment going for 39 runs in 4 overs and that in a low scoring match is not on and plus that useless super over that ge bowled

THe problem with lahore team is that they play tullaybaaz cricket. They also play players which arn't even properly developed. And to make matters worse, Umar akmal and brendan mccullum are opening the batting attack.

you get the openers, the team is done.

Every single player in the Lahore team is a hitter. But can someone name a single proper batsmen?

The team management has screwed this team over big time. The selection panel and the captain have no idea regarding what they are doing.

Lahore not performing is becoming really embarrassing. For Pakistan, Lahore is the Mecca of cricket. Majority of the players taht go on to play for pakistan come from Lahore. Lahore produces Talent. Karachi, Pindi, Multan, Islamabad, peshawar dont even produce a zilch of what lahore produces.

Hence, its important this team performs well.

The team needs proper batsmen and a proper captain aswell.

They had azhar ali, and yet they threw him out. Azhar Ali was a very good player and someone needed in the qalanders.

Last night, the only reason why lahore almost won was because Mccullum batted well. He slowed his innings as wickets were falling due to no proper batsmen in the team.

Rana sahab, your team combination is really bad, you have only one dimension player, hitout or get out, you need an anchor like Fawad Alam who can hold innings together. Sack Aqib and make Shoaib your coach things will change, I am karachi fan but hated to see lol Q loose today.

PS kick UA first.

Saj plz pass this msg to Rana Fawad if u can

Misbah, the defensive captain, punking PakPassion's darling, an "aggressive" captain. Amazing stuff.

:)))

THE LQHORE QALANDER team is a proper pakistani fans team. this is the kind of the team the ppers here used to vouch for.

They finished last when your Azhar Ali was their captain.

the team could had been tweaked around with.
remember, even isloo was 5th in that tournament aswell and went on to win it.

Azhar ali was performing well aswell.

They are missing a finisher in lower order. They bring scoring rate down to run a ball in almost every game and lose it from their. Their bowling, top order batting are all good, just need a decent finisher. Mathews could have made the difference. Now they should try yamin. Azhar ali is not the answer.

lol finisher. everyone in their team is a finisher.
what they need are two solid middle order batsmen. Someone who isn;t afraid to go 30 runs off 30 balls. ANd this doesn't mean that you are playing slow. Usually players who bat at the strike rate of 90-100 in t20 end up accelrating at the end.

problem is, everyone is accelerating here for lahore. This team could gain alot from someone like malik,Misbah, duminy.

Or what they could do as of right now is ask umar akmal to play proper odi cricekt in the middle order.

Baz did a good job by playing slow yesterday. He was the reason why lahore got that close.

I was never a Qalandars fan, and am still not, but I desperately wanted them to win yesterday firstly for Fawad Rana´s sake - he´s a sweet man, really lovable - and secondly for the sake of the tournament. If Lahore keep losing like this then it´ll be clear within a couple of matches as to which of the two teams will be knocked out (although I predict them alongside Islamabad to stay behind).

Here´re the mistakes that Lahore made yesterday in my opinion:

1. Narine should´ve been stuck to as an opener. The move allowed them to utilise an extra batting batting option in him. Now, batting at six, seven or eight means that his batting/hitting ability is rendered null and void.

2. Replacing Narine with Umar Akmal as an opener was the worst move to make - and they made it! Congratulations!

3. Fakhar wasn´t out, obviously. The ball was pitching outside leg, and watching it live my immediate impression was that if not pitching outside leg, it must at least be very close to it, so a review should´ve been taken. McCullum misread it and advised Fakhar to walk away. Unlucky, but it goes down as a mistake.

4. What was McCullum doing there even till the last over, looking for singles even as the required run-rate kept creeping up, and constantly giving the tail-enders the strike? The idea mayn´t have been a bad one whilst chasing such a small total, but the execution of his innings was so poor that you´ve the question the very purpose of his long stay. A batsman like him should stick to his natural game, although the brains shouldn´t be locked in the cupboard of the dressing-room.

5. Narine, there´s no doubt in my mind, should´ve bowled the Super Over. Mustafizur doesn´t possess the same threat and the element of surprise anymore as he did when he began his career. Besides that, Narine had bowled an amazing spell and has always been hard to put away in the PSL.

6. That six in the Super Over, the first one,... I can bet that, given how brilliant a fielder he´s on the boundary, McCullum would´ve been able to 'punch'/push the ball back into play had Umar Akmal not been surrounding him from every corner - a classic case if leaving it to him who can. McCullum´s frustration and anger was obvious and justified perhaps.

All in all, what a match and what great fun I had watching it with my eldest niece!

Someone listed Lahore Qalandars Team for Sale on Ebay!

Link https://www.ebay.com/itm/-/192471725909?roken=cUgayN&soutkn=rXduaC

Description:
Only 3 years old, however it is out of warranty. Requires some love and attention to return to good working order. I have receipts for all of the parts. Unfortunately, I brought the wrong ones. You may be able to return the Umar Akmal if you still have the tags. Engine is a New Zealand model. Can run on grapes. All offers considered.

Bidding start from $1 but i think the seller should pay the buyer only that way someone is going to buy this team :yk

Time for McClenaghan and Devcich to be given a chance.

Time for this embarrassing franchise to be discarded.

McCullum sheds precious blood, sweat and tears for Lahore

Sharjah - Brendon McCullum, the skipper of the Lahore Qalandars, did everything possible as a player and captain but his team still lost all four matches in the third edition of the Pakistan Super League.

McCullum had been fighting a lone battle in almost all the matches. In the match that ended in a Super Over on Friday, McCullum opened the innings and fought but was run out as the ninth batsmen for 34. He had kept the hopes alive for his team through knocks of 30 against Quetta Gladiators and 44 against Karachi Kings. The disappointment at trying hard and yet not winning was visible on his face.

Distraught after almost seeing his team to the target and losing the match in the super over, McCullum said: “It is never nice losing and we are very disappointed in the change room.” If not for McCullum being run out, Lahore may have won the match. “It was a difficult wicket and as a leader you’ve got to take some responsibility and take the game deep.”

He then went on to sportingly appreciate opponents Islamabad for their fighting spirit. “You have to credit the opposition, [Mohammad] Sami and [Andre] Russell bowled really well. Misbah [ul Haq] led superbly too. Mustafizur and Sunil Narine were our two options for the super over. It wasn’t turning as much as it was in the first innings and hence we chose Mustafizur, who is one of the best in the death overs.” Pakistan cricket has often fired captains who do not win matches. Since McCullum has not been wining matches for Lahore, despite his best of efforts, a journalist queried Lahore’s management about McCullum’s captaincy.

However, Sameen Rana, Lahore team manager and chief operating officer, quickly jumped to the defence of the team’s captain saying: “McCullum is a good captain. There is no doubt about it. In fact, we are lucky to have him as captain. McCullum today played selfless cricket against his natural style and tried to stay until the end for the team.”

Cameron Delport's Mother has passed away today and he will be leaving to Durban for Funeral tomorrow. He will not be available for the next game.

Ramdin is such a useless player for LQ. Rizwan is better than him in every department, don't know why they let him go.

The under achievers - last year actually indicates why Fleming should be rated higher than Mac. I think, they have learned lot in last 2 years and their owner is a true passionate fan of the brand - he should get his reward at some point. Biggest problem for them is Mac is costing one Foreign quota - Lynn, Narine, Deleport & Mustafiz should be in XI, but not sure whom will be dropped - probably Mustafiz, because local bowling resources is better than batting resources.

1. ^Lynn
2. ^Narine
3. FZ
4. Umar+
5. ^Deleport
6. ^Buzz*
7. Yamin
8. Yasir
9. Sohail
10. Raja Hasan (Bilal misses out because of Narine)
11. Emerging pacer - probably Mudassar.

They might have to bench a Diamond player for foreign quota, which I don't mind at all, as long as full payment is made .......
I don't think G Sadaf will make the XI because it's too god top 7. May be, this is a golden opportunity for Umar to rectify the mistake he made to bring his Bhaia in 2015 WC - his last chance to make PAK team for next 2 WCs, I believe; should grab it in both hands. PAK Squad needs a 2nd WK, who makes the team on batting merit - none can be better than UA.

Keya se keya ho gaya mere ...............

Raza needs a chance he's only bowled 5 overs been expensive but it's his first PSL maybe a move to another team where he can be the first spinner as he's behind Narine and Yasir.

It's about time McCullum should step down as captaincy. Even if they lose which they already are lol. It will be good experience for a youngster like Fakhar? or someone else?

Ramdin overdid his stay yesterday on the wicket as his awful, awful innings cost Lahore the game. Feel incredibly sad for them. I´ve myself been very critical of McCullum´s captaincy, but the fact is that whatever decisions he takes, whatever he does it goes to dust and ends up proving costly. Heavenly forces are just that favouring him it seems. Even the decision to promote Ramdin was well-intended, to prevent a collapse after a quickfire start, but it ended up costing them. Besides that, a captain´s job is to perform well himself and McCullum´s batting has been quite solid, way above my expectations of him in this age. Also, the decision to bat himself lower down the order in the last over also paid off well to finally provide Lahore a finishing touch in the innings, but things somehow aren´t working for him.

Now that they´re officially out of the tournament and the hope of managing something out of nothing is gone, they might as well start winning games by being freed of any pressure.

..... 5. Narine, there´s no doubt in my mind, should´ve bowled the Super Over. Mustafizur doesn´t possess the same threat and the element of surprise anymore as he did when he began his career. Besides that, Narine had bowled an amazing spell and has always been hard to put away in the PSL......

Narine vindicated my point yesterday. A guy who defended 12 yesterday would´ve been able to defend 17 that evening.

A massive blunder by McCullum. Hindsight is indeed a harsh thing, but if Lahore had been able to win that Super Over too they would´ve been alive in the tournament today.

Regardless, what a match it was!

Too bad it took them so long to work out their best team and gameplan.

I mean they played Umar Akmal 5 times and they got what they deserved.

has anyone seen the latest interview of aqib... it tells 2 things...

1. aqib had a narrow tunnel vision on the draft, where he simply focused on international bats with no local bats and did not have any B plan in case his A plan failed... and it showed...

2. akmal jr was told to sit out for a couple of games, the replacements started performing, and in frustration he stopped showing up to the ground altogether.... wow...

Lahore need 1 good middle order batsman like Saad Ali to become premier team.

I saw the short interview, and it was really frustrating to watch. I really hope he gets fired. Really poor planning, were relying on Umar Akmal keeping for the whole tournament, selected the mediocre Ramdin and Gulraiz, the only good local batsman they selected was Fakhar Zaman. It took half the tournament to try out Devcich. Imagine if Bilawal Bhatti didnt get injured, there would have been no Agha Salman and we would have been stuck with Bhatti!! The list goes on....And yeah cant believe Akmal isnt even showing up to the ground anymore and this guy is defending him - "dekhein star player jub perform nahi kar paata toh wo uss kay undar jo frustrations hain....." - give me a break.

What top class hitting that was by Fakhar yesterday! That one over in which he plundered 24 runs has to be play of the tournament for me. Love this guy and the fearless approach that he bats with!

Seems like Lahore are fulfilling my words. I mentioned over here that they might as well start winning now after being freed of the pressure of qualifying for the next round. A pity that Rana Fawad doesn't attend his team`s matches now now that they`ve started to win matches.

if it was any self respecting club, they would have simply came out professionally about UA... i am glad Bmac did that for us...

If that match between Karachi and Multan wasn't rained out and if Karachi won that, Lahore would've had a chance to qualify right now.

I haven't been watching most of these matches but finding out that Narine has chucked his way throughout the tourney and these guys still end up losing half a dozen matches is comical :))

LQ was my favorite team to make the Final (but, before Lynn & Anjelo dropped out. Also, I didn't know that Mustafiz will miss half the tournament). Later, I still put them in top 4, knowing schedule/injury to those 3 players - which they would have done as well, had Mac given Narine that Super Over. Next year, this will be my suggestions for LQ -

1. Sack Aquib Javed & appoint a Coach, anyone will do, but has o be a coach - don't mind Buzz as Coach or Player-Coach
2. Replace Buzz as Captain - he might stay as Coach/Player, but FZ as Captain

3. Among locals, please do select couple of Lahore (Punjab) boys, along with Umar - Wahab, Ahmed, Talat, Hasan, Babar, Kamran, Fahim, Amad, Gohar ...

4. Pick, foreign batsmen, at least 1 for middle order & 1 for top order (excluding Buzz).

From this years's squad, I'll make this team (they are finishing last, therefore should get the 1st call in draft, to make their choices)

Batsmen: FZ, B Mac, Umar, and one local boy (whoever is released, or a new kid, say Rizwan Hussain), Devecic/Lynn (Lynn might not be free)
All-rounders: Aga, Yamin, Bilal (Talat, Fahim, Shadab, Amad won't be released, may be a new kid, say Nasir Nawaz)
WK: Mushfique (If schedule permits, he should be 1st pick - top class No. 4 and quite decent WK), Sadaf
Bowlers: Narine, Mustafiz, Shaheen, one of Gohar or Raza, Md. Irfan (leggi)/ Yasir and a local pacer
Emerging: Arshad Iqbal, Best local Leggi - there should be several available (may be Jr. Qadir)

Ideal starting line-up is like -
1. *FZ
2. ^Foreign Opener (Devecic/Lynn)
3. Umar :( (or, any other batsman, if they find a better one ...)
4. ^Mushi+
5. Aga
6. Yamin
7. ^Narine
8. Gohar/Raza
9. Shaheen
10. e_Arshad/e_Leggi
11. ^Mustafiz

They had the 1st choice almost every round this year and picked almost always a wrong player - hopefully next time, it'll be fixed.

Sharjah - New Zealand player Anton Devcich admitted that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) had been a tough competition for the Aussie , Kiwi and South African players .

Talking to media after Lahore Qalandars’ 17-run victory against Quetta Gladiators on Wednesday, Devcich called PSL one of the best T20 leagues and said: “The quality of overseas player is exceptional.”

He praised the local talent as well, crediting the talent hunt programme for a good assortment of quality local players .

“The local talent playing in the tournament from the talent hunt programme is outstanding,” he added.

About the six straight defeats of his side in the PSL , he admitted that there were little things that needed to be corrected. He talked about the poor fielding and suggested that it was an important department where the team lacked. He mentioned, “The Indian team has become one of the best fielding team in the world now and that’s on the back of IPL.”

Devcich told that Qalandars lacked the smart cricketing performances and intensity in the first six games. “Hopefully, Lahore people will realise what team they have got now,” he stressed on the silver lining.

Talking about his role in the team since the team won the games with his arrival, he said to have tried bringing “a little bit of energy and intensity”.

Lahore Qalandars have only one game left in the PSL 2018. They will face Peshawar Zalmi on March 16 and hope to end their dismal season on a good note.

According to aqib javed haris rauf and salman arshad will go to aus very soon to play grade 2 cricket

LQ is like that friend who talks a big game before FIFA but then gets dished out a 5-0 phainti everytime

Gotta love the qalandars .
They've done a lot for young talent in the country.
Apart from islamabad no other franchise backs the young ones like they do.

Gotto agree with that .We would have never seen fakhar have he have not played in PSL.

Lahore Qalandars have the MAN for the finals.

Can they move ahead of the qualifying round is the bigger question.
