Yes, WE WON!!! I feel like I am in inception and that spinning thing will stop spinning and Leo Di Caprio will wake me up, "Suleiman, the final is about to begin". What a legendary and historic day of utter dominance.

Amongst the debris though, Hardik was one of the few shining stars of India today.

What insane hitting. Haven't seen that level of power hitting against us since Jos Butler in the 2015 series and Glenn Maxwell in the 2014 t20 WC. Was plastering Shadab all over the place.

Was hitting sixes at will. Has been a decent bowler through and through and I knew he could bat a bit, but that was insane. Honestly speaking, was starting to get a bit worried and was praying to Allah to please let this guy get to a 100 but let Pakistan win :amla and he gets out.

Seriously speaking though very anti-climatic way to get out and his reaction after getting out was priceless LOL. Haven't seen so much swearing and shouting from a batsman getting out ever, the type of reaction you have when one of the bros eats the last jalebi during iftar time.

But it was just the magnitude of the occasion which made him react like that, was all smiles end of the game.

Definitely deserved a 100, my favorite Indian player now.

The guy looks to have good character. Excellent hitting, even though it might be seen as just "spin-bashing."
 
Would have liked to see him against Amir or Junaid. With nothing to lose he was rightfully going after Shadab but despite that were not even half way to reaching our total at the time.
 
India have themselves a proper all-rounder after Kapil Dev, hoping that Faheem, Yamin, or even Hamad turn out to be at least 70-90% of Hardik.

Was actually worried at one point that he would pull off a Hussey II, thankfully my jinx charms worked and Jadeja made that blunder.
 
Was also great to see Hasan give him a death stare after he got out.
 
The guy had me nervous. Sarfaraz should not have bowled Fakhar at him at the very least and should have taken Shadab earlier.

How good is this guy against pace tho?
 
Man he had me dreaming for a second! What hitting. It was like watching AFRIDI. He hit 3 sixes in a row against Imad in the opening game too. He's been very impressive. His batting and bowling have both been improving rapidly in the last year. India haven't really had a fast bowling, big hitting allrounder like this since Kapil Dev i dont think. He's a real asset to this Indian team going forward.

His brother Krunal is also a monster. Just as huge a hitter if not bigger, bowls SLA though. I can see both brothers in the Indian T20 team in the next year.

Honestly was getting Razzaq-Hussey type vibes from his innings. My mom and dad were like "ab yeh aagaya", looked ominous.

Can see him as a future captain. Don't know if he has a future in tests as well.

With Russell coming back end of the year you got him, Ben Stokes, Pandya, all exciting and world class LOI pace allrounders.

He has tremendous ability and range to whack 6s standing at the crease
 
He's quite a character as well. Like the way he's talking to himself. Shades of Mohommad Amir in style and physicality. Also, actually quite a scary person when angry unlike most of the Indian macho pretenders in the team
 
No Pakistani can deny that he certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons. Brilliant innings and a brilliant talent, now I know why some of the Indians were gushing over him. He is good enough to bat in the top 4/5

updated and upgraded. Whereas Krunal has potential similar to Yusuf, Hardik's potential is far greater compared to Irfan, with both bat and ball. What is it with India and cricket brothers anyway:ahmed

Regards to Hardik's test future, he was selected in the India test squad last October against NZ despite having little FC experience because the Indian management have been hugely impressed with him and wanted to fast track him. Unfortunately he got injured and then did not feature in ENG and AUS test squads.
 
I don't know.

He had a part timer, Zaman bowling to him, and an 18 year old leg spinner who was trying his best to get an easy wicket by tossing it up due to the runs on board.

Did he hit or even face Junaid/Amir/Ali?

It was more poor captaincy or complacency that Sarfraz didn't change from spin to pace. We had the game won.
 
He did good but he didn't really face Amir, Junaid, Hassan, Imad properly.
He just played Shadab and Fakhar well. So I wouldn't go overboard about the inning.

He is a clean hitter and played a blinder but no batsman can alone chase such a massive total all by himself. It was a matter of few balls and he would have edged one.

Several batsmen have played similar innings when they had nothing left to lose. I remember Rahane played it once and so did Aamir recently against England. These innings 9 out of 10 times do not win a game.
 
It was sarfraz's mistake to persist with spinners.
Mindless captaincy in this aspect.

He should have brought fast bowler, at least from one end.

It wasnt mindless..he tried few things for 3-4 overs and it didnt work so he reverted back to his pacers.

What stood out for me were his leadership skills. An 18 year old got tonked for 23 runs in his previous over. Any other captain would have removed him but sarfaraz gave him confidence and persisted with him till he bowled an economical over which luckily was the very next one. This shows that the captain is backing his young players.
 
He was by far their best player. Also bowled pretty well and kept it tight in the middle overs and he surprised me with his pace. Fahim Ashraf would do well if he can aspire to be something like Hardik Pandya.
 
He is only good in flat-turning pitches,wouldn't survive longer in swinging ones but his role is that of a pinch hitter,needs to improve his bowling.
Hoping his brother comes in for Jadeja,that guy has more hunger and passion than selfish Jadeja.

Flat pitches are the trend in ODIs. At the position he bats nobody expects him to have Tendulkar level of technique. He has to slog and he does well. He can also play crucial innings in pressure as shown few times. Amazing self belief he has.

Yes and as i said in other thread even he bowled is heart out compared to Ash,Jaddu their cowardly approach has killed it for me.

Nothing wrong in this modern age to be a FTB,and support Pandya he is young we need to invest but we need Pant,Samson,K Pandya,Kuldeep,Iyer,K Pandya as well they all have self belief more than Ash-Jaddu,will keep Bumrah for a bit but the way he crumbles after he makes a mistake is getting right out annoying to me,his new ball skills are trash!

He played 43 balls and didn't even slightly mistime anything. Everything was out of the middle. This is very rare. No doubt Pakistan was much the better side, and run-outs are part of the game, but there was a decent chance had he stayed. Maybe 20% I think.
 
People saying he only hit spinners and untested vs pace, the way he was going it didn't look like it was going to be a matter of pace vs spin for him. He has decent technique and Junaid is probably the most hittable bowler ever with his trundling.

The key was that he got immense confidence boost from plundering Shadab and Fakhar and was seeing the ball really well, and what's to say he would couldn't have kept going. Like the above says no mishits, all clean striking.
 
One of the few that actually showed fight. But the foot was way off the pedal when he came in and the pacers would've stopped him.
 
Against Fakhar and Shadab feeding flighted deliveries to a tailender!! That was a tactical error from Sarfraz. He should have gone for kill with pace bowlers but he wanted to get 5-6 quick overs from par-timer Fakhar.
 
Won't lie..the group of fans I was watching final with very very nervous when Pandya was hitting those big sixes. It kept reminding me about Hussey's knock. In the end 338 was really out of his hands. If their top order did something then I am sure things could have been tricky with overrated Imad fail to bowl single over.
 
I wish we had Hardik,out there instead of Imad,Imad is overweight and goes to restraunts regular,He doesn't care about the team he says "I'm working on power hitting" biggest lie ever he can't hit even if his life was dependent on it,needs to try and get atleast 30-35 in 20 balls he only got 25,even in his team federal Sohail Khan wasn't event the specialist hitter but the guy made 35 off 15 balls in aggregate,maybe even more,Imad I feel shouldn't be playing cricket if you get injured in 3 balls your not fit,he needs to stop thinking he will always be in the team and should try to work hard.

I am a huge supporter of Imad, but yes even I was let down with his lazy batting this tournament.

This guy has solid batting stats domestically but he is so lazy and the fame has gotten to his head these days.

He has Hardik's aura and personality, but not his work ethic. That guy goes hard at the gym you can see his twitter/insta and bats with purpose and intent.

Imad on the other hand just flayed his bat like a zombie vs Sri Lanka, when that was supposed to be a cakewalk for him.

Even today missed some juicy deliveries.

Imad has a belly and looked lost out there even with pak leading,it's becoming more common,we get to 280 odd with 5 overs left and if Imad is there we will probably make it only to 310-320,Hate it because if it is something he is in the team for,it's a demand he has to cover,not play like he did in the final.
 
Lots of changes should happen in Indian team. Thanks to this loss. I always felt our Test Team is far settled than LOI team! Few players we should get rid of and see new waves flowing. Should not stick to the seniority policies and safe measures. Pakistan taught us a lesson in this tournament coming out of their own seniority policies & giving chance to younger players!

Ashwin & Jadeja should stick to Test Matches which they are good at. (only 1 should play outside SC though). Need to try players like Krunal, Kuldeep... We don't need "good on eyes" players like Rohit. I always felt only one of Rohit/Dhawan should be in the team. Dhawan is comparatively better at least turns up a bit in big matches! Rohit has always relished in inconsequential matches. Definitely there are better players than Kedar. We need to explore. As we have rich & competitive league like IPL, we need to really have better rotation policies & quick swapping of prime/in-form talents (Players no longer are insecure, as they have IPL for their living... Hence playing for country we should always have best/in-form talent playing it!) Yes absolutely it is time to get away from Dhoni, Yuvraj... (if they are not willing to retire)! I thought Dhoni is still needed at least for his WK skills, but looks like this is a disease/package offer! If you want to retain one senior, then the other one should also be treated same way??? So take the better decision (get rid of both!)

Brilliant innings from Pandya, one huge positive from this forgettable match! We can definitely persist with him from now on! But this loss was required for our team. At least we reached till finals for which we should be happy (the seniors should be happy with this farewell!), but at the same time this loss in the finals at the hands of Pakistan should really wake up and it was needed! Even Pakistan was better/innovative in their team selection. I was really impressed with Shadab, good that he played ahead of Yasir or other senior pros! On the other hand we stuck to Jaddu/Ashwin ahead of Krunal/Kuldeep... With better in-form/young team I am sure we would have at least lost competitively than this disaster...

Poor attitude, poor tactics by captain. I think he should be removed from captaincy! His love and fake-appreciation of seniors/colleagues is another irritating thing! As a captain his priority should be to identify good talents & manage them properly with matured head (If tough decisions are needed he should take)! His attitude with coach is also unacceptable! Omission of Shami, and then Bhuvi did't bowl in middle overs yesterday! India should think of some other captain, as its also affecting his batting (he was so brutal with his batting under Dhoni! Look at now, we can no more rely on him in such pressure chases as yesterday!) IMO Rahane should captain the Test Team and why not Pandya to captain LOI team (as someone above suggested) as he is the key member in the team now, lets surprise everyone!

I've supported Imad before but I'm starting to think people were right. His bowling is hit or miss, and I feel oppositions are working him out better now. More so though his batting seems to be getting worse. I found his innings yesterday very strange, he should have been hitting straight, keeping it simple. Instead tried to hit behind him with some very strange shots, failing pretty much every time. It felt almost he didn't trust himself with the bat too much.

I'd keep him for now at no.7, but on pitches supporting the pacers and unfavourable for spinners (e.g. yesterday's pitch), I would drop Imad, and get a pacer in, keeping Shadab. Feeling like it's increasingly looking that Shadab will be a greater asset than Imad for us in the future, unless Imad shapes up and does something about it.

It's the attitude that is destroying Imad, not his lack of talent. Had he tried to hit down the line, he would have ended up having better score than this but the way he tried to act cool by improvising those easily hittable balls, he looked like a joker. Even the way he used to hit his bat on his pads in a fake & managed frustration every time he mistimed those shots spoke everything what's wrong with his attitude.

Plus what kinda spinner gets injured after bowling 2 balls in his first over. And not just that, he recovers from this injury just 2 overs later. WTH? He is not going to go too far with this kind of attitude.
 
On topic, if Faheem Ashraf or Aamir Yameen end up having even 70% of the ability, Pandeya showed yesterday, I would take them. The guy didn't even mistime one sixer. Not a single edge at all!!!! In this age of all rounders, he is going to be too busy and too rich.

The worrying this is Imad get's sent in early for his quick fire hitting but he's not a hitter at all. He has a bit of power but zero timing and inability to get himself in good hitting positions. I would drop him in a heart beat.
 
Looks like a very good All round player in the making, was glad when he was run out as another 30 minutes of that and India would have had a chance at the target.
 
OMG other countries hyping an Indian pace all-rounder ! I've seen everything ..

Anyways, always believed he was a good prospect, his tight bowling and fielding alone makes him fixture on overseas tours. Hopefully he improves on the batting front too to become a proper allrounder.

Need more injections of youth in the squad. Pant/Iyer/Samson etc are all ready to go , we don't want them going the Manoj tiwary way !

To be honest, I think we may have been better off with Amir batting in that situation. That's how disappointed I was in Imad, he never looked like a good clean hitter. Maybe that's why he kept trying to play those silly flicks and scoops

Honestly he is no mindless slogger. He has played innings where he rotated the strike by taking singles and targeted bad deliveries. He wouldn't have tried to slog Amir and Hasan. He is a sensible player trust me. He has already smashed Imad for 3 sixes in the first match. At some point even if Pakistan don't want they would have to bowl and complete some overs of Shadab and Imad. So you see anything was possible if he stayed and play off threatful overs of Hasan. Of course very little chance but its not like no chance at all.

While India do have a real gem at their hands, I'm not entirely convinced. Bashing 18 year old spinners and a part-timer on a pitch that literally offers them nothing is no achievement in my eyes. He played some good shots vs pace too, but then again, not like the pitch was a demon. Nonetheless, it was a good knock in the context that India were humiliated by a defeat of 180 runs and not 250.

An OK slogger at best. Let's not get carried away here.
 
He'll end up like this team's Yousuf Pathan, nothing more, nothing less.
 
He looked very good to me. supremely talented. The only danger I see with him, is that because he is so ahead of the curve, there is a chance of burnout. Most of the posters speak highly of him. He hasnt been worked out yet.
 
I've always felt a fast bowling all-rounder is the greatest asset to a XI. It provides so much balance and gives you so many options. Hope Faheem can continue to develop.

Watch out for Vijay shankar too a bit slower in pace than pandya more upto 140-142 kph, but a better technique can also hit it as well, Deepak hooda and krunal are more bigger hitter.

Hardik, Krunal and Deepak hooda should be 5,6,7 number batters in ODI and 4,5,6 in T20s. All 3 are lance klusener type of players ..all can hit big ( usually score 20 ball 40s) and bowl reasonably decent
 
Only Indian who fought that day, and that deserves respect! Well said OP!

He's got a bright future and can be a regular in power packed Indian batting side!

Vijay is a trundler. Hardly reach 130. Don't go flash in pan 135+ delivery.
In Batting is an awesome talent.Can play as a specialist batsman alone in the team. He is 100 times better batsman than hooda, Iyer etc.. Waiting for his inclusion. But Yuvi, dhoni vacate the place first damn.

don't go by domestic speed guns, I have seen him bowl up-to 141-142 he is more in mid 130 zone a much better player against pace and spin ,pack a punch in his shots too,iyer is technically very solid and play aggressively at the same time, hooda is a beast and hit it really long way, more so than pandya, one player to watch out for is Vishnu Vinod damn can hit it big and a good runner as well, also if sarfaraz can handle his issues can be a huge asset.

I reckon we need another player with muscle in the bottom 4. One of the other bowlers should also be able to hit a few. Bhuvi provides the option of a batsman who can hang around, but we could do with someone who can also hit a few boundaries.

M Shami can hit few if need be. I do believe we need one match winner in lower order which is why i think Raina can get back if he regains his form and fitness like 2011. R Pant can also get into Indian team for his hitting abilities. Wish we could find one player like peak Yuvi and we could truly become unbeatable.

But still this team is also turning into beastly
Next round of away tour will tell us how they would fare against Saffas and England.

That is why I so badly want Raina to regain his ftiness.He can still hit big, evident from his IPL 2017 batting and also against England in T20s this year.Jadhav is a boundary hitter and his poor fielding and running would bite us in backside in batsman-friendly pitches.And Jadeja being no longer in the field, we need a gun fielder as the leader of the pack and to motivate others and there is no one better for that than a fit Raina.
