Any news on gapko? Seem to fall awkwardly when he fouled himself for the penalty 🤭

Arsenal fans on twitter making a fool of themselves suggesting it wasn't a penalty to Liverpool

The penalty couldn't be any more clear

It was a pretty common penalty, player running through gets clipped from behind.

Defender didnt complain but some fans sitting on tablets know better.

Bournemouth showed serious energy and physical pressure but lacked quality in front of goal.

Big win with the team showing a high level of fitness going into February.

Everton will be as tough imo .

When you wear tin foil hats then you will make absurd claims and think it's part of some conspiracy

Didn't see your game but heard Alisson was class? Often to win the league you need your keeper to make big saves at crucial moments

Alison is always class, his position and reaction is up there with the greatest keepers. So many teams like utd , Chelsea, spurs with avg keepers . It's no coincidence top 3 , notts , arsenal and lfc have the best keepers . If he was playing at st James, 3 points would have been secured.

Ultimately champions have greats in their team, this team has 5/6 league and champions league winners , all time pl greats. If they stay fit and healthy with a sensible manager its inevitable they can win big trophies once again .

Liverpool give chances but always have more chances to score , rarely this team and style will lose a game at any level 1-0.

Missing the quad by 2 goals, nothing is won and it will help this team knowing it

Liverpool pass 'tough challenge' with flying colours

Four of the top five sides in the Premier League table have come unstuck against Bournemouth, but Liverpool underlined their title credentials by passing this tricky test with flying colours.

Nine points clear after 23 matches, with 15 games to go, Liverpool are leading the way as they push to become English champions for a 20th time.

But they had to battle hard to secure a 2-0 victory at Vitality Stadium on Saturday, thanks to two goals from Mohamed Salah – a first-half penalty and then a brilliant curled effort to double their advantage.

Boss Arne Slot refused to indulge in any talk of whether this was the sort of result that wins titles, but the way he and his coaching staff celebrated highlighted how important these latest three points were.

Bournemouth had already beaten Arsenal and Manchester City at home this season and came into this match as one of the Premier League's in-form teams with an 11-game unbeaten run, thrashing Newcastle 4-1 at St James' Park on 18 January and crushing Nottingham Forest 5-0 seven days later.

And the Cherries gave Liverpool a real fright.

'Having Salah definitely helps in a game like this'

"Only a few [opponents] have been as tough as this," said Slot, who will see his side's lead cut back to six points on Sunday if second-placed Arsenal win at home against Manchester City.

The Cherries hit the post twice, through Antoine Semenyo and Marcus Tavernier, and thought they had made it 1-1 when David Brooks put the ball in the net, only for a tight offside call to rule it out.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson also did superbly to make a vital save with his legs to deny Semenyo when the game was in the balance at 1-0, while Slot was quick to praise his side's defensive efforts.

"If you want to have any chance, you have to compete in terms of running, fighting, winning duels and that's what the players did," he said. "Having Mo Salah definitely helps in a game like this.

"You need a team performance, a work rate and individual quality. I want them to fight from the first to last second to get the maximum results - that's what you need to do to have any chance in this league.

"This team [Bournemouth] has done so well in picking up these points against so many good teams and it's not by luck. They are intense, they have quality and it was always going to be very hard."

Relentless Liverpool continue to impress

Liverpool are still progressing nicely in all competitions. They finished top in the league phase of the Champions League to jump into the last 16, are in the fourth round of the FA Cup and on Thursday entertain Tottenham in the Carabao Cup, looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit after the first leg of their semi-final and get to Wembley.

In an interview with Football Focus on Saturday, Slot, who became Reds manager last summer following Jurgen Klopp's departure, said he could not have expected to have such a lead.

Slot knows what it is like to win a championship, having won the Dutch Eredivisie with Feyenoord and, worryingly for Liverpool's title rivals, the Reds are not showing any signs of slipping up.

This latest win extends their unbeaten league run to 19, since they were beaten 1-0 at home by Forest on 14 September.

"It was a battle, but I knew it would be," added Slot. "All the points we have got, we have deserved them."

Goalkeeper Alisson hailed his side's mental strength and said: "It's a great result away from home. We showed great desire, mentality and great quality.

"Bournemouth are really intense. They are top for running, intensity - the way they play, they're aggressive. You have to be focused and really sharp in every situation.

"This intensity takes a lot of energy to win these games. The Premier League is a high standard this season."

But with less than four months to go, Liverpool remain the standard setters and will take some stopping if they are to not win their first title in five seasons.

After a week of domestic cup competition, back to the business of the league.

FWIW I'm not too fussed about the FA Cup given we're already in the Carabao Cup Final. The quadruple talk was a fantasy, even prime Man City under Pep never managed it. We've seen previous Liverpool teams dead on their feet by March and April when competing on four fronts.

What was worrying was how blunt we looked against Plymouth's low block and I'm sure Moyes would've taken notes. Even with a heavily rotated side, there was enough quality to win but the fringe players didn't further their cause to start regularly.

Hopefully we'll channel our Spurs performance for the last Derby at Goodison. It's under the lights and the atmosphere will be feral with their fans relishing the prospect of denting our title ambitions like last season. Goodison wins are hard to come by and a draw wouldn't be the worst result.

This block of 5 league games in 15 days, which includes aways to Villa and City, is pivotal. I'd be okay with 10 points.

The derby in an hour will be a defining game , Slot was right in his team selection. The players now have to use the intense negative energy at the last derby at the shed . If we play our football , everton cannot defend but if they score first , their physical nature could make us drop points.

What liverpool have like no other team is high tempo for 100 mins , tonight is the night it must come out .

My prediction 1-3

1-1

Missed a lot of the game so not sure who has been better but Liverpool not looking as rampant as I thought they would

When we do start the 2nd Half ?

Everton creating better chances. We're being far too elaborate in the final third. Look at how simple our goal was, no need for backheels and stepovers every few seconds.

Unbelievable how Diaz remains on the pitch.

Like the Newcastle away, not the worst point but so deflating to concede a late equaliser.

On reflection we just didn't create enough. Bar the two goals and a couple of Pickford saves (one fairly routine), it was hardly a siege on Everton's goal.

LIVARPOOL will be gutted.

Yes it was a hold your head in your hand moment at the last second of the match!

Its a good point in context, it was Evertons cup final, they gave it their all. A very good match but they were so physical, I was concerned about injuries rather than losing the match lol.

There are some concerns over the refreeing but its not excuse, we should have seen the game out, Slot needs to change something when we are up with less than 10 to go, this is the 2nd time after Newctastle.

Overall, we have a full squad, some tough games but 7 points clear. Arsenal are back in it but we shouldnt be too worried ...atm lol

Liverpool’s Van Dijk claims referee failed to control fiery Merseyside derby

Virgil van Dijk accused the referee Michael Oliver of failing to control the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park as Arne Slot, his assistant Sipke Hulshoff, Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones and Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucouré were all sent off amid wild scenes after the final whistle.

James Tarkowski rescued a point for Everton in their fight to avoid relegation with a stunning 98th‑minute volley. Five minutes of added time had been signalled.

When the final whistle eventually blew after two VAR reviews, Doucouré celebrated in front of the Liverpool fans. A furious Jones grabbed the Everton midfielder and sparked a melee between both sets of players and staff.

The Liverpool head coach and his assistant were then dismissed by Oliver for protesting against the decision to allow Tarkowski’s last‑gasp equaliser to stand.

Slot was unable to conduct post‑match media duties because of Premier League rules that prevent a manager who has been shown a red card from speaking. But the Liverpool captain made his feelings clear.

“It was a very big provocation from one certain player,” Van Dijk said. “We all saw it and reacted as a team as we were able to do. You know what happens nowadays, it becomes one big tussle. Then it is not me who has to deal with it, it is the referee and today I am not sure he had it fully under control.”

Liverpool would have gone nine points clear of second-placed Arsenal with victory and Van Dijk admitted: “To concede an equaliser that late is always disappointing.

“We saw the celebrations they had in the end so we know how much it meant for them but the fact is it was disappointing for us. We kept fighting but in the end it wasn’t enough to get it over the line.”

David Moyes insisted Everton deserved a point from the final Goodison derby and the post-match red cards should not detract from the togetherness shown by his team.

The Everton manager said: “It was mayhem all game, a bit of an old‑fashioned throwback. The bit after the game is not really what we should be talking about. I am disappointed with Doucouré getting a red because we are short of players as it is. But the place was boiling all night.”

The Everton manager also viewed Tarkowski’s strike as a fitting farewell to the era of Merseyside derbies at Goodison Park.

“It is hugely important that Evertonians get to finish at their stadium in the best way they can,” he said. “The support in here was unbelievable tonight, incredible, and it is fitting they got an end like they did.

“We didn’t win, which was the disappointing thing. It would have been hard to come here losing 2-1 and talking about it. Everyone stayed until the end, which was a magical moment. The bit of to-ing and fro-ing at the end probably added to the entertainment of the night.”

If after you play us at Anfield your lead is 5+ then you should really see it home from that point

He should be careful about criticising referees, he's gotten away with a few naughty challenges so they are often kind to him

That was stressful. Wolves dominated us second half.

Massive stepup needed for Villa and City.

The mid week battle took it out of the team in 2nd half, wolves have had a long rest .

Good 3 points to build momentum again .

Next 3 games will decide the league , win all 3 and one hand on the trophy imo

What the heck was Jota doing, he could've killed the game with a 3rd goal but instead he went down for the penalty which got overruled anyway.

Slot needs to use Endo more, thought he added solidity when our other midfielders looked goosed. Credit to Quansah who's had a tough season - that was a matchwinning tackle at the end.

6pts from these next 3 matches would be okay. Villa's team selection will be fascinating as there's talk Emery may rotate with their game against fellow top 4 rivals Chelsea on Sat.

Unai Emery 2 - 1 Liverpool at HT

Squeaky bum time for Liverpool

A point away at Villa on paper isn't the worst result but we had enough chances to win two games forget one !

Jota and Nunez are fortunate Malen narrowly missed at the end.

Defensively we're leaking goals so fragility creeping in both ends of the pitch.

Arsenal will be smelling blood so City on Sunday takes on even greater importance.

It's a tough period , no losses so far. A win at City will great. Arsenal have a very tough end to the season imo . They will also have win at anfield , unless Michael Thomas returns, very unlikely. Liverpool still in a strong position.

Thankfully we have Salah too .

Can never take Anfield form for granted though - look how Wolves dominated us in that second half. If it wasn't for Quansah we'd be talking about three 2-2 draws in a row.

Arsenal despite their injuries are still a tough team to beat with tighter defensive structure than us.

The crowd need to get behind the team too. Anxiety in the stands can quickly seep onto the pitch. Robbo was telling people to calm down the other day lol

Wolves are still in a new manager period, with a long rest and decent form playing us a few days after Everton was always going to be tricky .

Arsenal had a far superior team last season but were very lucky to steal a point . If the title is still on, Anfield will be very tough for them to get a win . Imo we need to be 4 points ahead when they come but they could be further behind. Arsenal were very poor against a terrible Leicester side and fortunate to get 3 points. See their run in , many points will be dropped. Their fans will be hopeful but deep down they realise it's a long shot

Professional, clinical, organised and tireless. That was absolutely magnificent. Even with City's current state, winning at the Etihad takes some doing.

Interesting to note our setup, we treated it like a European away by ceding possession and being content to break on counter.

What a beautiful game of football to watch for LFC fans , just didn't want it to end.

City are now in transition again, a new midfield is needed to play along Rodri, a few defensive changes too .

Szlobo and Vvd were magnificent along with Salah .

11 points clear but going for 3 trophies is still very taxing on the players . But this team has fight and energy, nothing in the bank yet but may turn out to be a historic legendry season.

Title is pretty much in the bag

Liverpool can be strategic and really target the CL

I do think they should chuck the League Cup, winning that could be an unnecessary distraction . . . .

No chance, Premier League is the ultimate prize , best XI until its won ! PSG on their day can destroy any opposition and we play them near cup final day . Newcastle will give it their all , will be in good form too . It will be difficult to win both but win all matches is the goal now

I agree but my point is in between PSG you play Southampton at home, you don't need to go full strength for that

That's where Slot needs to be strategic, not necessarily make wholesale changes but maybe give a rest to anyone that needs it or give them a shorter run out (Salah is probably an exception as he's freakishly fit and almost never injured)

Makes sense and Slot will be thinking the same, he seems like a chap who wants to win all 3 remaining competitions esp while he has a great squad.

For liverpool fans it's a little haunting losing the title on the last day , coming so close on more than one occasion. I was surprised the fans at the Etihad were singing of winning the league .

Get past PSG , win the league by early april , rest players and go for the double, I've got a sneaky feeling the league cup final will be very tight unless Mohammed Salah has other ideas

In terms of the League Cup final from our perspective the concern is we are not playing, in 2025 we have had 2 performances I would describe overall as good, that was both legs of the semi final against Arsenal

Today, we were very good for large parts of that first half but the second half we were awful, unless our performances pick up drastically it will be a one sided final

It's a shame we aren't facing the Liverpool side that played in the final last season

This crazy run of 5 league matches in 15 days ends tonight with another tough opponent in Newcastle.

They have quality all over the pitch from two young full-backs with bright futures, a hard working midfield with Tonali and Bruno, Gordon out wide and the most sought after #9 in the league in Isak who has a good goalscoring record vs Liverpool.

The biggest questions are over how fresh we are and which Newcastle team will turn up - the side that on Sunday put 4 goals past Nottingham Forest in 11 minutes in the 1st Half or the side that conceded 2 without reply in the 2nd Half and were hanging on ?

A win here and Nottingham Forest taking points off Arsenal would be the best possible scenario.

Professional until the final whistle. Said these 5 league games in 15 days would be a defining period and so it's proved.

Players deserve huge credit for their workrate after a run of tough fixtures in a short period.

Well deserved weekend off now for them before PSG away next week.

Slot said ref Oliver to blame if Liverpool fail to win title

Liverpool manager Arne Slot told referee Michael Oliver he would blame him if the club failed to win this season's Premier League.

The Dutchman was shown a straight red card after he confronted Oliver and one of his assistant referees on the pitch following his side's 2-2 Merseyside derby draw with Everton last month.

Slot was given a two-match ban and fined £70,000 by an independent Football Association commission after accepting a charge of acting in an improper manner and using insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards both the match referee and an assistant referee.

Oliver alleged Slot, while shaking the official's hand, said: "If we don't win the league, I'll [expletive] blame you."

Slot disputed the alleged language used, claiming he instead said "if we don't win the league, I will have you to thank for that".

But the commission decided it was "more likely than not that Arne Slot used the language alleged by the referee and the FA".

The FA argued the discrepancy didn't make a material difference to the sanction because the words used still constituted Slot acting in an improper manner.

Slot accepted that, and did not dispute stating "[expletive] disgrace" to the assistant referee as part of his angry outburst.

The FA also alleged the Reds boss said Oliver "[expletive] give them everything", and hoped the referee "was proud of that performance".

Slot acknowledged his actions were unacceptable and he let his frustrations get the better of him, because he felt certain decisions during the game went against his side.

The commission acknowledged he had since made a sincere apology both privately and in public.

Slot's fine was reduced from £100,000 due to mitigating factors, including his apology, admitting the charge at the earliest opportunity and because he had no previous record of misconduct.

Slot's assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff was also given a two-match touchline ban and fined £7,000 after the FA alleged he approached Oliver in an "extremely aggressive manner", and said he was a "[expletive] disgrace".

Liverpool and Everton were both charged with failing to ensure their players did not behave in a way which was improper or provocative.

The late chaos at Goodison Park began after James Tarkowski scored a dramatic 98th-minute equaliser for Everton, which was awarded after a video assistant referee (VAR) check.

Liverpool were adamant the goal should have been disallowed because of a shove by Toffees striker Beto on Reds defender Ibrahima Konate in the build-up.

Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure then celebrated in front of the Liverpool fans at the final whistle, before being confronted by visiting midfielder Curtis Jones, with both players sent off for second yellow-card offences.

Slot and Hulshoff were both shown the red card after approaching Oliver on the pitch.

After serving the touchline ban, Slot's first domestic game back in the dugout will come after the international break when his side face Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final on 16 March.

Liverpool, who are 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League, host Everton at Anfield on 2 April.

One of the great goalkeeping performances in champions league history, this man is a human great wall ! Wow .

I'm sure we'll play better at Anfield lol PSG is a great team but liverpool battled hard.

How this was won is a mystery, maybe name is on the cup ? 😁

One of the most astonishing results I've seen. Proper smash and grab.

We were battered in that game with PSG so quick and energetic. We barely created a chance. Alisson produced one of the all time great goalkeeping performances.

That has to be one of the biggest "smash and grab" performances I've ever seen. PSG had Liverpool on toast for Majority of the game.

This tie is far from over. They just have to much quality

PSG have serious qualities all over the pitch , with Luis they play the spanish ball control but also are very direct and powerful. You need some luck away to such a great team.

What they dont have is Ali, you have to get past the last man, he battered their shots , like a piece of art . Courtois did similar to use in the final and won 1-0 . In the end such a win means you got them in the end , a sign of a successful team.

Anfield is a different beast, the greatest players , much more than these guys have faltered. Sure PSG can win this tie its only one goal lead but they will also be under serious battering . Today is good for the future, players know they have the tools to hold off anyone. Liverpool will just get over the line imo

Ali rarely gets a chance to show his genius bu tonight you could make a 90min movie just showing him , not just his saves , his positioning and even helped create the goal. He had a great performance against Napoli when liverpool won 1-0 and went on to glory

Allison Becker world class keeper. Best game he had ever in the ucl. What a hard game to watch that. But did what we do, win even without playing too well.

Few more thoughts now that the dust has settled:

- We were battered. I've not seen this current version of PSG but they look more balanced than when they had Messi, Neymar and Mbappe. Our pressing was ineffectual - can't remember us once winning the ball in PSG's half.

I thought they'd tire after 60 but PSG were relentless and fed off the intimidating atmosphere. Technical ability was breathtaking too - rarely did you see a bad first touch or sloppy pass.

- Our passing was poor because we were so exhausted from defending nonstop. There were a few times when we successfully beat their press and broke away but couldn't take advantage. Gravenberch's worst performance of the season - looked tired. Midfield seemed better when Endo came on.

- On Alisson - notice how he doesn't just save shots but parries the ball out of danger so powerfully. Some GKs parry balls straight into the path of an attacker giving them an easy tap in.

That's serious strength. And his distribution was phenomenal, he got us up the pitch for our goal with his kick.

- Nunez for all the criticism played a perfect pass to Elliott who I'm delighted for. Kid's future has been questioned but seized his moment just 47 seconds after replacing Salah. Terrible goalkeeping from Donnarumma though.

I don't see us playing this poorly at Anfield and the fact PSG are chasing the tie means they'll give us opportunities on the counter.

Just think we could do with 3-4 changes for Southampton tomorrow. Would like Tsimikas, Endo, Jones and Nunez to start.

I watched PSG v City and realised this is a seriously good football team. Luis has transformed them into a mix of the Spanish tika taka passing and more direct football , having players with some serious pace and incredible fitness levels. The only they are missing is a 30 goal a season striker, if they had this no doubt they would have scored one or more against us.

I agree, at Anfield Liverpool will on the front foot unless we concede an early goal, then it wont be easy as this PSG fully believes in their ability and believe they will win at Anfield, the longer we can keep the from scoring the more control we will have in the match. Of course if we can score first then it will be a huge mountain for them to climb. Liverpool are 70% fav to go through but up against a dangerous outfit.

Nunez, Jones and Tsimikas start v Southampton. Slot is correct imo not to make too many changes, it is the bottom of the table team and we are at home but its the PL, 3 points is a must again. Maybe make some changes 60 mins in if we are 2+ up.

Only Liverpool’s best will be enough to beat ‘complete’ PSG, warns Arne Slot

Arne Slot believes Liverpool must produce their best performance of the season to finish off “a complete” Paris Saint-Germain team that gave him sleepless nights after the Champions League encounter last week.

Liverpool take a 1-0 lead into the last-16 second leg at Anfield but Slot rates the tie at “50-50” on the evidence of PSG’s display at Parc des Princes. “The result was ours, the performance was for them,” he said.

Luis Enrique, the PSG head coach, insisted the winner of the tie would reach the Champions League final in Munich on 31 May. But despite the high stakes, a 15-point lead in the Premier League and a Carabao Cup final to come against Newcastle on Sunday, Slot claimed he could not dream of potential silverware given PSG’s dominance on home soil last Wednesday.

“In a week like this I do not dream at all,” the Liverpool head coach said. “I just know I have to work really, really hard to prepare the team in the best possible way.

“If you have a game like we did last week you feel: ‘Can I even go to sleep at all or do I have to watch even more?’ So, no, I do not dream at all about this week. It started very well in terms of beating Southampton. Now we are just looking forward to a game like this, at Anfield, with two great teams playing each other.”

Slot, who has Cody Gakpo back from injury, admitted Liverpool would have to find another level in an already outstanding campaign to overcome the French champions. He claimed the 2-0 win against Manchester City at Anfield in December should give the six-time European champions confidence.

“Yes, I do think so [that the best performance of the season will be needed] because PSG are the most complete team we have faced so far. What I mean by complete is, OK, we have faced Arsenal and City and they are not big margins, but the intensity they played at combined with the quality they have and they are one of the richest clubs. Maybe there is one club a bit further ahead.

“They have so much quality and a great manager who has the team playing in a way that is not easy to play against. He brings the best out of every player and brings out an incredible work-rate. We have to be at our best. But we didn’t have ball possession at City away – the other richest club in the world together with Paris Saint-Germain – and at home we had a completely different performance against City.”

Reports from the PSG dressing room have claimed Luis Enrique’s players felt Arsenal and Bayern Munich were tougher opponents in the Champions League group than Liverpool. Slot did not rise to the bait, insisting PSG have changed and improved since the group phase, but he denied the Premier League leaders were poor in Paris.

“Some people said we played poorly, I don’t agree. I think they played tremendously well,” he said. “I don’t think we have played a team this season who combined that much quality with intensity. But I do think we can play better. We are a better team than we were last week and that is something we have to prove tomorrow with the help of our fans.”

Luis Enrique admitted he broke with post-match routine to address his players immediately after their first-leg defeat. The PSG head coach said: “I almost never speak to players at the end of the game. There is no point because the players are thinking about the result. But after the game on Wednesday I wanted to pick them up and tell them they had done everything to get a result.

“One thing is for sure, over the course of the two games we will be seeing two of the best teams in Europe, two contenders to win the Champions League. Whoever wins tomorrow will go through to the final, I’ve no doubt.”

Tough pill to swallow. Too many poor decisions in the final third. PSG were better over the two legs.

Now need to focus on the league and Cup final on Sunday.

'The best game I've ever been involved in' - Slot on PSG defeat

Liverpool boss Arne Slot described Tuesday's Champions League shootout loss on penalties to Paris St-Germain as "the best game of football I've been involved in", despite his side exiting the competition as a result.

After losing last week's first leg 1-0 in Paris, the visitors levelled the tie at Anfield on aggregate thanks to Ousmane Dembele's 12th-minute strike.

Liverpool had plenty of chances to score themselves, but the game went to extra time and was decided on spot-kicks, where PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma saved from Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones, before Desire Doue fired home to seal a 4-1 success.

"It was the best game of football I have ever been involved in," Slot said on Amazon Prime.

"It was an incredible performance, especially if you compare it with last week. Maybe we ran out of luck because the margins were so small.

"We played the perfect game, except for scoring a goal. It was similar to Paris last week, when they played the perfect game and didn't score. And then in extra time, they were maybe a little bit better."

Defeat leaves Liverpool with a domestic double to play for.

With a 15-point lead at the top, the Reds are all but certain of winning the Premier League, while they face Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday.

"We were pretty good and you want to go as far as possible, but we knew when we drew Paris that it was going to be very difficult," admitted Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk.

"In Paris, we struggled but we won. Today we saw a very good Liverpool side, but we're out of the competition."

Scotland left-back Andy Robertson said the focus will turn to Newcastle now as he added: "It wasn't meant to be and we need to dust ourselves down. We always bounce back, there's a lot of tired legs in there. Cup finals, we enjoy them, and that's the biggest game."

PSG boss Luis Enrique felt Liverpool were unlucky as he said: "Both of the teams deserve to go to the next phase.

"They played better than us here, but I think my team at Anfield, in a special stadium showed great personality and character.

"I think it shows clearly the team we are."

Alexander-Arnold doubtful for final

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is a doubt for Sunday's final against Newcastle at Wembley.

The England defender was substituted in the second half against PSG after appearing to jar a knee in a challenge with Vitinha.

"He had to come off - that's never a good sign," said Slot.

"From what I heard from people that saw the images of how he got injured, it didn't look very good.

"I would be surprised if he is [available] for Sunday."

Alexander-Arnold missed last year's EFL Cup final win over Chelsea.

England manager Thomas Tuchel will name his first squad on Friday for World Cup qualifiers against Latvia and Albania this month.

Alexander-Arnold, who has 33 caps, was expected to be included.

Van Dijk has 'no idea' if he will stay at Liverpool

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk says he has "no idea" whether he will stay at Anfield beyond the current season.

The Netherlands centre-back is one of three high-profile players - along with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold - who are out of contract in June.

Talks between Liverpool and Van Dijk have been ongoing for some time and the 33-year-old defender has previously indicated he is keen to extend his stay.

However, in the wake of Liverpool's Champions League defeat by Paris St-Germain on penalties he acknowledged there remains some uncertainty over his future.

Alisson returns to Liverpool after 'suspected concussion'

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has returned to the club after sustaining a "suspected concussion" on international duty with Brazil.

The 32-year-old was substituted late on in the 2-1 World Cup qualifying win over Colombia on Friday after a nasty clash of heads with former Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez.

Alisson will now return to Merseyside for assessment by Liverpool's medical staff.

"Alisson suffered a head injury and was replaced due to a suspected concussion," Brazil's team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said after the match.

"We will now follow the CBF protocol, and he will undergo the recommended... tests.

"If all the tests are normal, we will proceed and perform a cognitive test. Then we will evaluate the player.

"He is normal, without any complaints. He did not report any fainting or memory loss."

Alisson will definitely miss Tuesday's World Cup qualifier in Argentina, but Liverpool will hope he is available for their first game back after the international break - against Everton at Anfield on 2 April.

Arne Slot's side are currently 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League table with nine games remaining.

Big Derby win the other night but the officiating was shambolic. When Duncan Ferguson and Gary Neville say that Tarkowski should've been given a straight red...

Jota is hooked in a double armbar by Mykolenko right in front of the assistant referee - no foul. I guess the rulebook was suspended for the night.

Van Dijk says progress made over new Liverpool deal

Captain Virgil van Dijk says there has been "progress" in negotiations with Liverpool over a new contract.

The 33-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and the centre-back said in March he had "no idea" if he would remain at Anfield.

The defender is one of three high-profile Liverpool players to be nearing the end of their deals, with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold also yet to sign extensions.

But, speaking to reporters following the 3-2 defeat at Fulham on Sunday, Van Dijk was more positive about the prospect of staying at the club.

"There is progress, yeah," said the Netherlands captain.

"I don't know [if I'll stay], we'll see. Listen, these are internal discussions and we'll see.

"I love the club, I love the fans and they were there for us again and we wanted to reward them.

"But I want them to be there on Sunday again [at home to West Ham United] and make the stadium an amazing venue like always for us."

Liverpool have an 11-point lead at the top of the Premier League despite their defeat in west London.

The Craven Cottage loss was only Liverpool's second league defeat of the season and their first in 26 matches.

"It was a poor day at the office for all of us," Van Dijk added.

"There were individual moments that should have been dealt with better. It was not acceptable as a team."

Van Dijk joined Liverpool in a £75m deal from Southampton in 2018.

He has scored 26 goals in 323 appearances for the Reds and was the key defender as Jurgen Klopp's side won the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the EFL Cup twice.

First Salah, now 'growing expectation' Van Dijk will stay

There is a growing expectation at Liverpool that captain Virgil van Dijk will join forward Mohamed Salah in signing a new contract in the not-too-distant future.

Following months of discussions, it is understood Van Dijk is extremely close to signing what would be a new two-year contract.

Salah, too, is in advanced negotiations over a similar contract.

It's important to stress that, as things stand, neither deal is complete but at this juncture it would take a remarkable turn of events for Van Dijk or Salah not to be Liverpool players at the start of next season.

These are two very significant pieces of further good news for Liverpool, who are 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Liverpool won 2-1. West Ham played well.

Now, Liverpool lead the table by 13 points with 6 games to go. Liverpool basically need two more wins to win the Premier League!

Needed to return to winning ways after a shocker against Fulham.

We were excellent first half - pressing well and winning our duels with Salah giving their youngster Scarles a torrid time.

However we've struggled to put together a complete 90 mins performance recently - that second half was reminiscent of Wolves where we sat back and tried to manage the game instead of killing the game off.

You can tell some players aren't used to playing a more methodical style under Slot and are still in Klopp's high intensity mode. Once they equalised we suddenly raised our intensity and immediately created chances.

Some of the subs didn't work - Robertson looks done at the highest level. Gakpo not match sharp after injury.

That said, all that matters is getting another step closer to the league. In the past we've played beautiful football over a season with nothing to show for it so not bothered one bit winning ugly as long as #20 comes home. Man Utd did this countless times under Ferguson in April and May.
