A good competitive fight in the lighter classes after a long time.

A Loma fan through and through, I will be biased. The man's discipline, single minded focus and old school nature has won my respect.

No foul language, no diss, no social media, no bling, no threats.....they don't make boxers like this anymore, last of a dying breed. A cold blooded artist and assassin.

Teófimo López is the exact opposite, young, brash, lots to say. His father talks even more, but say what you may they have backed their words with wins. 12 wins by KO from 15 fights.

People say it's Loma's craft vs Lopez's power, but I think Loma has a lot more power than people give him credit for, and vice versa Lopez has the boxing smarts to back up that brute force.

OCTOBER 17th. Just over 2 weeks to go, Will be one hell of a fight!

Teofimo Lopez overcomes Vasyl Lomachenko in Las Vegas

Teofimo Lopez beat Vasyl Lomachenko by a unanimous points decision in Las Vegas to become the undisputed world lightweight champion.

The American's win over the Ukrainian means he now adds the WBA, WBO and WBC 'Franchise' titles to his IBF belt.

Lopez, 23, dominated the first half of the fight and, despite a late rally by Lomachenko, was awarded a 116-112, 119-109, 117-111 win by the judges.

"I am ready to take over the world," Lopez said.

The result means he is the youngest fighter to become a four-belt undisputed champion and he maintains his unbeaten record with 16 wins from 16 bouts.

The fight between the two rivals had been eagerly awaited but took place without any fans because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Lomachenko, 32, was kept quiet early on and, although he put in a strong effort in the later rounds, it was not enough to stop him suffering a second defeat from his 15 fights.

"I think I won the fight," Lomachenko said after his first loss in six years. "But I am not going to argue it now.

"In the first half of the fight he won more rounds. In the second half I took it over. I don't agree with the scorecards."

One hell of a fight after a long dry period in the sport, Loma as good as he is; I have never over hyped him to the moon especially when you dissect his resume carefully. As the level of opposition has increased and also as he climbed weight he has found it increasingly tougher to make best use of his natural ability, we saw it in fights against Linares, Pedraza and Campbell in what I saw was a very close fight live. Lopez was bigger, stronger and more importantly smarter then Loma last night, excellent assault to the body and composure beyond his years, he put a beating on him, one which was on the wall for a while now. I also had it 116-112 like one of the judges, that is fair; first 7 rounds Loma was just shell shocked and unwilling to commit on the front foot due to the heavy hands of Lopez and even when he did, those rounds were close, and had their been another miniute in the 12th he would have bee stopped. Full credit to Lopez, a shame about the sour grapes from Loma after the defeat, should have taken it like a man but these Ukranians are all the same really when you spank them. I wouldn't mind a rematch at all, think it would be a lot more exciting but Lopez should face Haney next

Credit to both fighters though, I wa shocked to see both men agree to face each other; unheard of in this era, Lopez had youth on his side and a world title in the bank! Loma had a reputation to protect and a lot more to lose then gain so fair play

Speaking of the P4P crown, it has universally been in the grasp of Canelo for some time now. Lomachenko makes the top 3 though, may drop down a spot in favour of Inoue perhaps
