Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has hit out at Australian head coach Justin Langer for criticizing the celebration style of Virat Kohli, asking the former Aussie opener to look into his own team's past before commenting.

It is a common sight to see Kohli celebrating every wicket with utmost joy. Though, his celebrations during the first Test did not go down well with Langer, who had stated that his players would never do that.

But Ganguly has come out in defense of the Indian skipper, requesting the Australian head coach to look at the way his team bowlers used to celebrate in the earlier days. Speaking to India TV, he said.

"I would like to say one thing to Justin Langer. He should watch old footage of Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath or Jason Gillespie from India's previous tours to Australia and then say something."

On Day Two, Kohli celebrated in an emphatic fashion after his bowlers were dismantling the batting order of Australia. The Indian skipper did not hide his joy as his team was going ahead of the hosts in the match. Though, a day later, while speaking to media, Langer was least pleased with his celebratory style. Speaking to the media, he said,

"He's is a superstar of the game and he is the captain. We have talked for as long as I can remember in Australian cricket teams that you want to keep the opposition captain down as much as much as possible. You love seeing that passion in sports. Mind you I think if we did that at the moment we'd be the worst blokes in the world. It's a fine line isn't it?"

So much talk around Kohli celebration. Can I have a video of that, what exactly did he do? :))

As usual, an Indian overreacting in the name of agression.

If anyone actually listens to Langers statement, they'll understand that it was more about how there's extra scrutiny on Australian players' behavior these days and less about criticizing Kohli.

Seems as though the ex players and coaches are more involved in sledging than the players for this series. :))

Langer himself got involved in a tussle with Rahul Dravid. Irony just dies when guys like Langer talk about things like this lol

Ganguly was a real bengal tiger and took Aussies head on. That point when he made Steve Waugh to wait for the toss transcribed Indian cricket forever and the aggression we see today. He, was the real fighter and bengal tiger.

It was later revealed that the Aussies disrespected and virtually spat over a senior player. That led to the Indian team management to plan it and Dada executed it perfectly. It was funny. Dada kept Steve Waugh waiting for the toss for around 10 minutes, and then walk down the stairs to the middle for the toss, and not even look at Steve Waugh or shake his hand on his way to the middle :))

Who is responsible for the extra scrutiny? And even if we forget about the current scenario, can anyone justify the behavior of the Aussie players over the decades? Has there been one team that hasn't faced their dose of verbal diarrhea? What about when McGrath asked Sarwan the taste of Brian Lara's anatomy?

Did Ganguly even try to find out the context? Langer never said what he did in a demeaning way. He is just stating things in a matter of fact way.. jeez.. what a horrible reaction

He is the Prince Calcutta. He won't bother with context and details. He will react as he's being told.

Where did I justify the past behavior of the Australians? I just pointed out to the fact that Gangula completely misinterpreted Langer's statement which is typical of Indians these days as they are quick to jump on any opportunity they can get to come across as macho and aggressive.

As one can clearly see.. prince of Calcutta? Is it a separate kingdom? Dude come on come out of this larger than life celebrity mindset
Not a celebrety .ganguly proved in his fast..he is king who challenge strong australian team when sledging in prime..kohli is doing same to them.

Bhai hum test jeete hain, we are not bothered about context.... We will say whatever rubbish hits our head

Like a previous poster said, Ganguly is rarely bothered with trivial matters like context and is always ready to give third rate quotes to feed tabloid journos.
He is a grade A narcissist who is still under the delusion that his batting was A-Ok during 2005 when he was dropped and that his pathetic 70-75 SR inns in 2007 were still world class material.

It is not surprising to see him react in this manner at all and even less to see some of his old fans prop him again. In their minds VVS 281, Harbhajan's 32 wkts and Ganguly's toss delays were equally responsible for winning us the series

Ganguly has a point.

Warne and co. used to dish out some terrible stick. Funny thing is the umpires would just ignore it.

If you'd actually do some research you would find that was a nickname given to him by Geoff Boycott.
