A Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) student was found dead in his hostel room on Monday.

Shahmir Asif Bajwa was found ‘unresponsive’ in bed in his room on December 12.

Shahmir was a third year BSc honours student, police sources said.

LUMS administration was informed immediately after he was found and Shahmir was immediately shifted to National Defence Hospital, where the doctors said he had expired earlier during the day.

In a note to students and faculty, LUMS administration said, “It is with deep sorrow that we are writing to share the very tragic news: Our MIMS student and hostel resident Shahmir Asif Bajwa has passed away.”

Initial reports suggest Shahmir died of cardiac arrest.

The hospital said a post-mortem will be carried today.

“Shahmir’s family has been informed and they have requested that their privacy is respected,” the note read. His family reached Lahore from Karachi today as they were unable to earlier due to fog.

My friends studying in lums confirm that it's because of overdose

Your thoughts DW44?

Inna lillahi wa inna illahi raji'oon

I wouldn't be surprised if it is due to overdose, drug use is rampant in LUMS.

Isolated incident. LUMS provides free healthcare and rehab for students who get hooked to hard drugs. There were two students in my year who got hooked to H. I left after a year but later discovered that both went to rehab on LUMS' dime and later returned to finish their degrees. Heroin use was pretty uncommon there back in 2006 and I can't imagine it going up since then because Tableeghi Jamaat was entrenching itself there back then through people like Arif Zaman and by 2010, it was a much more conservative place compared to what it was in the early 2000s.

Sad incident

Seems to be one case every year

His own fault, i could never sympathize someone who uses drugs and ends up killing himself.

Don't feel sorry for him either. I can't sympathise with someone that takes drugs to get high and ends up killing themselves.

No one deserves to die and no parent deserves the pain of losing a child.

But some on their moral high horses can't seem to put their morality aside for even a second and think of the parents of the young man.

tell me one thing, shouldn't the student himself had thought about his parents? Shouldn't he thought about the risk he was putting himself into and the consequences of his actions and now his actions have caused grief towards his parents?

Did you know, while people usually have sympathies for cancer patients, but if you have a lung cancer due to cigarette smoking people won't sympathies with you. WHy? becuase you yourself cause that damage. Smokers with lung cancer also cant get their name on the donor list at the above section, they need someone to donate it for them.

Kirdaar aor Mazhab ko alag kerna mushkil hai. Dono ka choli daman ka saath hai.

Agar aap ka Khuda aor mazhab pe yaqeen ho aor Mazhab aapka kirdaar na bana saktay tou aesay mazhab ki batti bana lou ya mazhab choarh dou.

I dont know about Major bhai but I certainly didnt mean it for the parents. They obviously would be shattered right now and they have every right to be. The person I dont feel sorry about is the guy who died, he was studying in Lums and he knew about the consequences of his actions and he choose to ignore it.

As I was arguing with DW44 in another thread that taking drugs has become a joke for the youth in this country and this is a case which was reported since it happened in Lums. Now imagine how many young people die everyday and go unreported. This drug problem is a serious issue and I hope someone does something about it after this incident.

We don't know the full truth, it might have been the first time he was doing the drug and his friend might have told him "hey take two pills instead of one for a better high". (I don't know what is the exact dosage required to overdose since I have never indulged in drugs by God's grace)

Yes taking drugs was a stupid move, but humans are prone to making mistakes. Allah forgives every sin of a person (apart from a few major ones) if he seeks forgiveness.

Drugs are a sad reality of life, and unfortunately the people who want to do it will do it no matter what. You can only educate people about its harmful effects.

Do you have enough details on this to determine what the cause of death was? Or just because you heard it was drug related you're certain that was the cause? Seriously, no one is asking for or even cares about your sympathy.

Syed you rather go and bash against a brick wall mate !! Can't believe some posts in this thread are still live as of yet

The loss of a child is one of the most painful experiences for a parent !! and no one !! I MEAN NO ONE !! should go through such in his or her life - I know someone very very close to me who's gone through such an experience and trust me it's HELL.

But Alas the morality of some seem to get in the way of basic human sympathy #smh

What if he did drugs cause of stress or anxiety or depression. Lets not judge people if we don't know the whole picture.
