Arguably, three of the greatest ODI batters of this era- MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers have now gotten close to 10,000 ODI runs and should atleast reach this magical figure in the same year and possibly between a fewer time difference .

Currently, this is where they stack:

MS Dhoni - 9898 runs@312 matches
AB de Villiers - 9515 runs@225 matches
Virat Kohli - 9030 runs@202 matches

While MSD will/should reach the 10K runs mark in the coming series between SA and India, there is a slight chance for ABD to also get there in this series if he replicates a performance similar to last tour to India.

The Indian superstar, Virat Kohli, isn't too far but I think he will take one or two more series to reach the magical figure of 10K runs as he is still preceding by over 900 runs.

What's your take on this?

Only dhoni will get to that figure in this series.
Kohli will get it before the end of 2018

ABD wont reach 10K in this series, he is injured for first 3 games.

Dhoni might hit 10K this series if he gets to bat longer.

Kohli might score around 450-500 runs this series and would close the gap between him and ABD.

Onething is for sure, we might see all three greats hitting 10K club well before next year WorldCup.

Can someone post stats in regards to number of players from each country have reached 10K club in ODIs?

Thanks

Sachin has ~ 18.5 K ODI runs? :O What an absolute legend the guy is.
I thought it was something in the vicinity of 15 K but this is breathtakingly humongous record for anyone to break. It will be quite an onerus task up ahead of Kohli to even come close to sachin.

On topic: Dhoni should be getting it by the end of the series while Kohli will have to wait a bit longer unless he is Rohit 2.0 and have those 264 kind of scores in the next few games. :inti

Kohli and ABD will easily get to 10,000. Surprised to see Sachin has 18k runs. Amazing.

Average 44 with strike rate of 86 , just incredible.

18426 :amir3 Thats staggering!

Kohli needs 9285 to overtake him. He is 29.. :13: He can do it if he remains injury-free for the rest of his career.

Thought it was 16000 something, it is very very difficult for Kohli to break that record even if he keeps scoring 1000 runs per year for next 7 years it still wont happen, Dont think Kohli will play till 38-39, in my sense he will retire at 35-36.

Can he do it in tests?

Personally speaking, if an Indian player would have played as many tests as England in a calendar year, it would have broken as of now.

It looks impossible

Whats the incredible thing? Even after dream 10 yrs of international cricket kohli is still short of sachin's 50% odi runs

Nah! Even Joe Root is similar in age to Kohli and his stats are similar too. 65 Tests; 5701 Runs

He will play 3/4 tests more than Kohli per year. And I dont think their age is same. Root is the youngest while Kohli is the oldest of the four.

In 8 years on avg, England plays close to 100 tests.

India/Aus plays 80 tests.

SA plays 70-75.

Root - 27( December born)
Kohli -29( November born)

Wow, So that means Root has the best chance.

Time to open a thread :root:sachin

But English batters burn out and retire much earlier, so there is that to consider as well.

There is so much cricket happening that the chances of retiring earlier is very high. You play T20 formats and IPLs and so many other leagues, it will take a lot to surpass this for anyone.

Cook who plays only tests and is far from any other format of the game still is far from breaking the record of SRT and it will become only tougher for players ahead who play all formats of the game.

It will be incredibly hard to break Sachin's ODI record. He just played too many games. Not many will have a career spanning over two decades.

18.5 K runs with an average of 45 and S/R of 86 . Thats other worldly stats :sachin
Makes it even more special considering he played half of his career in the 90s , the most bowler friendly era of all time.
GOAT!!

Root might be a different story,he looks technically solid, pretty good against pace and spin and yet to enter his peak. Also not a popular name among the T20 leagues across the world is a huge plus so he might have the longevity if he can fix his one and only problem with the conversion rate
