The gap has been closed and whilst previously it was a one-horse race, now it's definitely a two-horse race after Manchester City have dropped some points recently.

Can Liverpool catch and beat Manchester City to the Premier League title?

After today it feels like City will do it.

They are a class apart.

The 2nd half versus Man Utd was different class from City.

It was like a training session.

City still to play Liverpool once more though.

Jurgen Klopp says Man City would have been Premier League champions in February without Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has claimed Manchester City would have been crowned Premier League champions in February if it was not for his Liverpool side, adding that the two teams push each other to "insane levels".

City and Liverpool have shared the past four league titles between them and are engaged in another two-horse race for the Premier League crown this season, with Pep Guardiola's side leading by six points, although Klopp's team have a game in hand.

The fact that only once in the last four seasons has the title winner recorded fewer than 98 points shows the levels the two sides have reached, while the 81 points earned by Manchester United is the highest earned by any side not coached by Klopp or Guardiola in that period of time.

Third-placed Chelsea are currently 10 points behind Liverpool - and another six further back from City - but Klopp says he and his team enjoy the challenge of trying to better the champions in the Premier League.

"It's the strongest league in the world, no doubt about that," said Klopp. "But it's the challenge and actually we enjoy it.

"If we couldn't be here this year, or two years ago, or three years ago, then City would have been champions in February. Because we are around, it was tighter. If City were not here I think there's a good chance we would be champions."

Guardiola has previously called Liverpool the "strongest opponents" he has ever faced as a manager, and Klopp made a similar admission about City, saying of their manager's compliment: "I can give that back!

He added of Guardiola: "I could say City is the toughest opponent I ever had, but I should not forget I faced him already at Bayern [Munich] and I cannot say it was much easier.

"I know what he means. We pushed each other on insane levels in the last few years, with the number of points collected. OK, we couldn't cope with it last year for obvious reasons, but in the other years we were around.

"I don't think City would get the amount of points they will get this year if we weren't around, and if they weren't around it's pretty much the same. But a lot of games to play - we will see where we end up."

70% 30% in favour of Man City. They are very hard to catch once in front. Only hope for Liverpool is they have to win at the Etihad providing they stay in the race until then.

Crystal Palace 0 -0 Man City

Liverpool are now only 4 points behind with a game in hand.

The title race is really heating up.

I still think City are favourites with remaining fixtures but LFC will give go the distance with them.

PL is a amazing!

Crystal Palace 0-0 Man City: Better to be in our position than Liverpool's, says Bernardo Silva

Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva said his side are "still in a better position than Liverpool" despite drawing with Crystal Palace on Monday.

Premier League leaders City moved four points ahead of title rivals Liverpool, but missed chances at Selhurst Park saw it end in a goalless draw on Monday.

The result means Liverpool will cut City's lead to one point if they beat Arsenal away from home on Wednesday.

"We couldn't score and we should've scored," Silva told Sky Sports.

"Nine games to go, but it's still better to be in our position than in Liverpool's and they have to play in our stadium so it's going to be exciting."

City have played one game more than Liverpool and the two sides will meet each other at Etihad Stadium in April.

Silva added: "It's never easy to play at any team away in the Premier League. It's always better to win than draw and we wanted to have an advantage of six points over Liverpool."

Mo Salah's injury means he will probably miss the Arsenal match. If so it will be a big blow for us going in to a very crucial period where we play in the FA Cup, Champions League and away to Man city. City have the easier run in so are still favourites.

City are still favourites imo but the probability of them being caught just went up!

I said back in December that Liverpool would win it, even when City were ahead I still never thought the title race was over

and right now Liverpool have momentum, that's crucial. Whilst City dominate possession the false 9 in certain games is what is hurting them. And even yesterday they were so sloppy in defence but Palace couldn't quite punish them

The game at the Etihad will be pivotal but calling it now I'm convinced Liverpool will win

Jurgen Klopp wants Liverpool to be 'as annoying as possible' to Manchester City in title race

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said he plans to challenge Manchester City in the Premier League title race by being "as annoying as possible".

His side are four points behind Pep Guardiola's City, who dropped points in Monday's 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace.

The two teams meet on 10 April at Etihad Stadium in what could be a title decider.

The Reds, who have a game in hand, face Arsenal on Wednesday and a win would see them reduce the gap to one point.

"That's the plan [to push City]," said Klopp. "The plan is to be as annoying as possible. We have to win our games.

"It's final after final after final that we play. We're not ten points ahead with 10 to go. It's in front of us - attack it, chase it, go for it. It's the only chance we have."

Liverpool are on an eight-game winning streak in the Premier League, while Wednesday's opponents Arsenal have won their past five matches.

Klopp said they cannot count on taking points against the Gunners away from home, while Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said it would be a big achievement for his side to win against Liverpool.

"Being able to beat the most in-form team in the country would be really, really big so that's the aim tomorrow," Arteta said.

Arsenal moved into the top four with three games in hand over fifth-placed Manchester United after a 2-0 win against Leicester on Sunday, but Arteta feels his team are still not among the best in the Premier League.

"We haven't done anything," he said. "What we are doing is try to improve, understand better what we want, being much more consistent in performance and results, but nothing else as yet."

The race is on if we can defeat Arsenal on Wednesday evening. Looking forward to the big one although even if we lose it is still not a decider. I think we'll get a draw at the Emirates.

2-0 away win at Arsenal for Liverpool and the gap is now just 1 point.

All set for a fantastic finale.

Title decider coming up in April then.

City v Liverpool at the Etihad.

City at home to Arsenal and have the easier run in. We need at least a point at Etihad but I will not still call it a title decider.

Momentum is with Liverpool, they have so much fire power up front that even if they don't play well they keep on scoring.

As for city, bar the United game they have looked poor for a while, and its the so called easier teams with low block who have caused city issues. May be the upcoming international break will do them good to reset.

The key match will of course be the Man City versus Liverpool match, but City's match at Burnley could also be a tricky one.

Wow, it will definitely go down to the wire, possibly to the final day. Far closer than I had predicted.

I'd say its 60-40 in favour of M City.

These two trading places at the top today.

Going down to the wire.

Man City vs Liverpool: Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp ready for 'proper battle' as title race hots up

Pep Guardiola says Manchester City are in a "proper battle" with Liverpool for the Premier League title, as Jurgen Klopp insists they are in the position they wanted to be heading into next weekend's pivotal clash at the Etihad Stadium, live on Sky Sports.

Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Watford in Saturday's lunchtime kick-off moved Klopp's side to the summit for a few hours before City beat Burnley 2-0 to reclaim top spot and remain a point clear.

The results set up a mouth-watering clash between City and Liverpool next Sunday at the Etihad, live on Sky Sports.

"The next Premier League game we will play against Liverpool so we know they are going to win almost all the games - hopefully not the next one - but we will try to do the same," Guardiola said after the win at Turf Moor.

"When you arrive in May challenging to lift the title it means you have had an incredible season. Being here is because we work a lot and we have done that every single season.

"That is a lot of credit for the whole organisation. We will fight. The opponent is so tough and good, but they said we will make a proper battle and we accept that."

City and Liverpool were neck and neck in similar fashion in the 2018/19 season as both teams put together winning runs before Guardiola's side clinched the title by a point on the final day.

"People say 'experience' when you are old but it works when you get good lessons and you learn from them. What you have done in the past doesn't mean it will happen again," Guardiola added.

"Every game will be like this. We need to play these games with this target and we will try."

Got to give Liverpool credit for the way they have taken this to the last few games of the season after it looked like City would walk away with the title.

Still fancy City to win the title but it could go to the last game of the season.

What a performance by LFC yesterday, Anfield was electric in the 2nd half!

City are more than good enough to win every game until the end. The same for LFC but the Champions league Semis could throw up a failure in the league.

Im hoping Leeds who are fighting for survival will draw or win v City in the early kick off next week.

Liverpool nearly hit a wall yesterday and could have easily fallen behind & lost the title, but at half time Klopp galvanised the troops and changed the tactics, and he went on to make a number of genius substitutions. It was a highly resilient team performance and I still back LFC to take the title.

City have yet to play both Leeds and West Ham away from home, which for different reasons at this stage of the season (the “business end”) will be two very tough games and they could easily drop a couple of points here.

I said it in December that Liverpool will win and I still maintain that they will

Yesterday was a good demonstration of what Liverpool are about, the ability to just bring on Diaz and Origi off the bench and change the attack and style of play is something City don't have

City play one way, admittedly they are brilliant at it but they don't have a plan B (they need a Kane for that) and when the low block is implemented then I can see City dropping points

Another factor is Liverpool play before City over the next 3 games (subject to when City away to Wolves is rearranged for) and I'd back Liverpool to win all 3, that pressure on City is what I think will then undo them

So going to the final 2 games when they play at the same time I think Liverpool will be ahead

3 wins in a row for both sides now, both refusing to blink. A very real possibility that they both just win every remaining game and City win it by a point, similar to a few seasons ago.

Final day of the season, Gerrards Villa take vital points off City to hand Liverpool the league.

If I was allowed to gamble, i'd stick a fe on that.

A key day in the title race, Liverpool hosting Spurs. Conte can end the title race today, but you'd tend to think Liverpool will continue rolling on.

As an Arsenal fan, I've got my YNWA hat on today.

Liverpool moved top of the Premier League but dropped two precious points in the title race with Manchester City as they drew against a resilient Tottenham Hotspur side at Anfield.

Son Heung-min swept the counter-attacking visitors in front after 56 minutes following a link-up between Harry Kane and Ryan Sessegnon and with the Liverpool defence disorganised.

Virgil van Dijk and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg had both struck the woodwork in a tight contest before then and it took a heavily deflected shot from Luis Diaz 16 minutes from time to draw Liverpool level and set up a grandstand finish.

Spurs defended with resolution after the equaliser though and were also a threat on the break as they battled to take something from the game to aid their fight for a place in the top four.

The point takes Liverpool top on goal difference but Pep Guardiola's side can move three points clear with three games remaining if they defeat Newcastle United on Sunday.

Could this be the day that Liverpool have blown their title chances.

I wonder how City will respond to this.

They still have to pick themselves up after a crushingly disappointing Champions League exit in midweek.

City move ahead on goal difference and have a three point cushion.

An utterly beautiful and brilliant comeback performance from them today, scything a good team in Newcastle into pieces, and I think the title is theirs now.

A play-off to determine the Premier League champions? Imagine the drama...

Manchester City know they will win the title again if they gain seven points from their last three matches - starting with a trip to Wolves on Wednesday (20:15 BST) - but the prospect of an unprecedented winner-takes-all decider isn't as unlikely as it would first appear.

Premier League rules state that a 39th match will be used to determine the champions if two sides are level on points, goal difference, goals scored and in the head-to-head results between them.

The latter element has already been ticked off, with both games between the two ending 2-2. City know just one defeat would see Liverpool finish the campaign level on points with them should they win their remaining two matches - and City win their other two games.

All fairly plausible so far. On to the goals scenario.

If Liverpool do pick up three points more than City in their remaining games, goal difference would be the first factor to decide the title. City are three ahead on that count.

But should Liverpool peg that back - not inconceivable - it goes to goals scored and both teams have currently netted 89. Should that remain level between now and the end of the season, on to a play-off we go.

The run-in
Liverpool Manchester City
Saturday, 14 May: FA Cup final v Chelsea Wednesday, 11 May: Away v Wolves
Tuesday, 17 May: Away v Southampton Sunday, 15 May: Away v West Ham
Sunday, 22 May: Home v Wolves Sunday, 22 May: Home v Aston Villa

While the prospect of a straight shootout between the rivals would be a mouth-watering one for the neutral, it could also be a major headache for the league and for Liverpool's Champions League final preparations.

No planning has been made as of yet for when it would be played or where but with international matches scheduled from 1 June, a date of 25 May - just three days before Liverpool's Champions League final against Real Madrid - would appear most likely.

A play off would be incredible!

Hope it happens.

Brilliant once again City.

Several injuries but they keep churning out the performances.

This is 2018-19 season all over again. Not to mention Liverpool went on to win the UCL as well.

5-1, a hat trick +1 for Kevin De Bruyne.

Wolves have one of the better defensive records in the Premier League and they were taken apart on home turf at will.

Just wow. City, what a team.

Manchester City came back from two goals down for the first time under Pep Guardiola to earn a point at West Ham that means victory over Aston Villa on the final day will see them crowned champions.

City's grip on the Premier League title was looking distinctly shaky at the break as the Hammers led thanks to Jarrod Bowen's well-taken double.

But Jack Grealish struck for the visitors four minutes after the re-start and Vladmir Coufal headed Riyad Mahrez's free-kick into his own net as City avoided defeat after coming back from two goals down in a top-flight game for the first time since 2012.

They even had a chance to win it five minutes from time but Lukasz Fabianski saved Mahrez's penalty after Craig Dawson had fouled Gabriel Jesus.

Guardiola looked devastated at that. But given the situation they found themselves in at the break, with Liverpool potentially having the chance to catch them when they play on Tuesday, the final outcome was positive for the visitors.

It certainly was for West Ham, who have qualified for European football through their league position in successive seasons for the first time in their history.

It is a measure of the success Guardiola has had in this stadium that his first five visits all yielded victories - and a staggering total of 22 goals.

Now City have drawn on three successive visits - losing on penalties in the Carabao Cup earlier this season.

In the week they signed Erling Haaland, they found it impossible to hold West Ham's number nine, Michail Antonio, and were unsettled by Bowen's direct running.

Without Grealish's volley from Rodri's knock-down flicking off Craig Dawson's leg and over Fabianski, they might have been in for a very fraught second half.

As it was, they dominated possession and put the Hammers defence under so much pressure, it felt inevitable an equaliser would come. That Coufal provided it was unfortunate as the Czech did not have to dive at Mahrez's free-kick, which Fabianksi seemed to have covered.

Mahrez blew the opportunity to avoid a nervy final day - but, 10 years after Sergio Aguero's famous injury-time title winner, City fans do at least know that anything can happen if events start to conspire against them again.

Yet another twist !

City still favourites but is not over yet….

If only the Hammers held on to the 2-0 lead!!!

But a draw keeps us in the hunt.

We need to win on Tuesday v Southampton.

We need Stevie G to ensure his Villa team dont allow City to win away. Will be very tough but its possible.

Premier League and English football is like no other sport, the best !

Premiership is head and shoulders better than other major leagues.

100%

English football in general. The Cup final yesterday showed a lot of emotions from fans. 150 years now for the longest running cup compeition.

LFC fans booed Prince William and the national anthem but there are are free to do so and I agree with them as we are anti-monarchists.

If you havent try and visit Anfield when Utd play away. I like Old Trafford and Ive been to many grounds but maybe Im being biased but no ground can produce the atmosphere of Anfield.

Premiership is head and shoulders better than other major leagues.

Indeed. Today’s viewership excelled above all the rest.

The farmer’s league, with Neymar, Messi, M’Bappe do not command such viewership.

PS: Messi is a flop in one of the weakest leagues in Europe. So much for the greatest who relied on his team-mates; lets see Messi in the greatest league in Europe - the English Premier League.

Pep Guardiola tells Southampton to beat Liverpool 4-0 after Man City's draw with West Ham keeps title race alive

Pep Guardiola jokingly told Southampton to "beat Liverpool 4-0" when asked if he had a message for the Reds' opponents on Tuesday after Manchester City's 2-2 draw with West Ham.

Guardiola's side recovered from two goals down to claim a point at the London Stadium but missed the chance to win when Riyad Mahrez had a late penalty saved by Lukasz Fabianski.

The draw keeps their title in their hands, but a Liverpool victory over Southampton in their game in hand, live on Sky Sports on Tuesday, will ensure the gap stands at a solitary point on the final day, when City host Aston Villa and Liverpool are at home to Wolves.

City could, however, be crowned champions before that if Liverpool are defeated at St Mary's Stadium.

Asked if he had a message for Southampton in his post-match press conference, Guardiola replied: "I would say, beat Liverpool four-zero!"

He added: "The big, big privilege we have is that, at home, it's in our hands. We don't have to look at anything else other than ourselves. We just have to give everything.

"I said [to the players], 'Don't be sad today because we gave a really good performance. It's fair, against this opponent, to arrive at the last day to decide who gets the title because both teams are so good'."

Speaking to Sky Sports about his side's performance in east London, Guardiola added: "Great comeback. And a comeback against this team in this stadium with the way they defend and how strong they are was an incredible credit to the team.

"We played a really good game. We spoke at half-time and said if we score one goal, we'll be in the game, don't give up. Fortunately we scored early in the second half.

"One more week, one more game, with our people at home. I assure you something: it will be sold out in the Etihad Stadium and we'll do the best performance possible to win the game and win the title.

"It would have been perfect to win today but West Ham is fighting for Europa League and have made an incredible season. It's in our hands, that's good.

"It will not be easy, there will be a lot of emotions. We have to train calm and arrive fresh. We have one week. Some days to recover. And we will do everything in that game to win the title."

Guardiola also defended Mahrez over his missed penalty and insisted the Algerian will remain on spot-kick duties going forward.

"This season Riyad was extraordinary," he said. "We scored a lot of penalties. This season we were good on the penalties. He took responsibility, he missed it. Next game he's going to score."

Liverpool have the chance to go 1 point behind Man City going into the final day with a with a win at Southampton.

However, Salah and Van Dijk are out of the match through injury, which could make things slightly more difficult.

Liverpool have started with a weakened team against Southampton, and they are losing.

If Southampton go on to complete this win…

…then Manchester City win the league title tonight.

Liverpool come back to win.

It’s going to the final day.

'Not likely but possible' - Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on title hopes

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says overtaking Manchester City is "not likely but possible" after his side's 2-1 win at Southampton sent the Premier League title race to the final day.

Defending champions City, who host Aston Villa on Sunday, are a point clear of Liverpool, who face Wolves.

Liverpool trailed City by 14 points on 15 January, but have won 15 and drawn two of 17 league games since.

"We never gave up and we'll give it a try," said Klopp.

"It's our home game, last home game of season. The atmosphere will be outstanding. We'll try to use it. We have to do our job. Football is a tricky game sometimes. We'll see but you have to focus on yourselves."

City's opponents Villa, who are managed by Reds legend Steven Gerrard, face relegation-threatened Burnley on Thursday. Wolves will have had a week's rest.

"Of course it is unlikely because City play at home against Aston Villa, who play only on Thursday. It will be tough against Burnley, they fight for survival," said Klopp.

"But it is football. I think the time when City became champion [in 2019] it was because of 11 millimetres. If someone wants us to be champion then we have to win first and Aston Villa need to get a point at City.

"We have to first win our game. It is not like we are talking about Wolves like they are not there.

"If I was in the other situation, then I don't feel like I am champion already. From my point of view, in second, you are thinking that of course City will win that game. But it is football."

Klopp made nine changes from the side that beat Chelsea on penalties in Saturday's FA Cup final in leg two of a possible quadruple.

After beating Chelsea in both domestic cups, they face Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Paris on 28 May.

Takumi Minamino and Joel Matip scored their goals at St Mary's after Nathan Redmond had given the Saints the lead.

Klopp said: "The way we played with nine changes is outstanding.

"Top game, unbelievable performance, nine changes. It worked out because of the players. If it hadn't worked out, it 1,000% would have been my responsibility."

Reds captain Jordan Henderson replaced the injured Joe Gomez at half-time. Fellow defenders Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold missed the game.

Klopp said: "I hope we are lucky - Joe himself has pain but not too much.

"He got a real shock to the system but he's sitting in the dressing room and when I spoke to him he was in a good mood. I think we probably were lucky but we have to figure that out."

Henderson said: "We really kicked on from January and gave it everything.

"In January, if you said it would go to the last game we'd have taken that. We were quite far off. You have to give credit to the lads."

Midfielder James Milner added: "We had a reset in January when we were so far behind and we went for it. We had a mental reset and we've really pushed.

"City are an incredible team to go up against. Whatever happens, we've done ourselves proud. All we can do is try to win our games."

Anything can happen in football but highly doubtful Villa can stop City winning.

Stevie G its up to you lad! :klopp

My prediction.

Man City 1-1 Villa
+90 Coutinho :)

Manchester City hold a one-point advantage at the top of the table after their draw at West Ham and Liverpool's victory at Southampton in the penultimate round of games.

Few people expect the defending champions to surrender their lead, and not just because no side has ever started a Premier League final day top and not ended it there.

The main reason is that City have been simply superb this season, winning 28 games to stay out in front despite Liverpool clawing back what was at one stage a double-digit lead.

Pep Guardiola's men host Aston Villa on Sunday, knowing a win would make Liverpool's result at home to Wolves academic and seal a fourth league title of their Spanish manager's six-season reign.

Claiming the league crown would put some salve on the wounds inflicted on City in the latter stages of this season by the Reds, who beat them in the FA Cup semi-final, and Real Madrid, who stunned them with a late comeback in the Champions League last four.

It would also deny Jurgen Klopp's side a shot at a historic quadruple, with the Carabao and FA Cups already in the Anfield trophy cabinet and the Champions League final to come.

All Liverpool can do is beat Wolves at home and hope Villa can do them a favour at the Etihad, with a draw no good for them because of their goal difference, even if City lose.

This season is the third time in four campaigns that the pair have claimed the top two spots. If they match each other's result on Sunday, it will be the second time, after 2018-19's gripping race, that they have been separated at the top by just a point.

GOAL - Crystal Palace 1-0 Man Utd
Wilfried Zaha

Palace take the lead.

It's former United man Wilfried Zaha who rolls Diogo Dalot oh so easily.

The Ivorian then skips into the box and slots home a low finish into the bottom corner.

David de Gea unmoved.

How close will this get?

Anyone who says EPL is not the greatest football league in the world needs their head checking.

What a first half start across the board!

DISALLOWED GOAL
Liverpool 1-1 Wolves

Sadio Mane has scored, Liverpool fans are celebrating and they think they're top of the table.

But the flag is up! He's offside!

Everybody calm down.

Really hope Liverpool can score and clinch the league. What a comeback that would be.

Amazing stuff happening.
Liverpool need a goal.

Looks like city's bubble burst when they lost to Real Madrid

Incredible.

What a substitution by Pep.

3 2 to City now after being 2 down.

Liverpool 1-1 Wolves

Liverpool are throwing everything at it now. When they lose it, Wolves can break with two or three players in advantage. They do so here but again, the pass is poor towards Raul Jimenez and he's pushed wide.

Salah scores.

Both of the top 2 teams winning now.

What a season.

3 1 Liverpool but it looks like it's City's title.

City were 14 points clear at one stage and the title race was over, but the excellent Liverpool pushed them right to the final moments of the season.

Amazing stuff happening.
Liverpool need a goal.

Looks like city's bubble burst when they lost to Real Madrid

Real Madrid is very strong team..so there is no bubble burst. Infact, I think RM will win the Champions league final next saturday beating Liverpool.

Congratulations City!

Commiserations to Liverpool.

One of the ATG title races this year.

Congrats to City.

We were so close but to achieve 90+points is a magnificent achievement by the Reds.

Next season we will back but until then Champions League final!
