Manikya Malaraya Poovi - Another viral song from Kerala

The song is 40 years old, and comes from an Islamic culture (mappilah) that predates Islam in NW India by atleast 600 + years. So yeah, you can give them a little leeway.

Islamic culture which predates Islam? Wooooot?

Islam arrived in Kerala through Arab traders during the time of Prophet Muhammad(CE 570 - CE 632). Kerala has a very ancient relation with the middle east even during the Pre-Islamic period. Muslim merchants (Malik Deenar) settled in Kerala by the 7th century AD and introduced Islam. The Cheraman Juma Masjid said to be the very first mosque in India situated in Kodungallur Taluk, in state of Kerala.

I am from that very place in Kerala - Kodungallur, called Muziris back then.

Notice the distinctively kerala architecture inside and out, which would be considered Un-islamic in todays world. But it is part of cultural heritage of our state, just like the song is , and deserves to be preserved IMO.

The mosque was restored some time back by the muslims here :

Oldest Indian mosque sets new precedent

Yes sorry i missed the NW part but its still strange that you think Islamic fundamentals could be different in NW part and different in South India. I get difference in culture, but the set up of the song in which the story is being told is offensive to any muslim from any part of the world let alone India. I am not suggesting one should riot over it but expressing displeasure is the least a muslim could and should do. Unfortunately Indian muslims continue to bend over as always.

Why would it be considered UnIslamic? It look un-Arab if you may. But not unIslamic.

SandyB thanks for sharing the correct lyrics. Still that essence of the song will only be understood by a malayali, translation just destroys it's beauty and the respect given to Nabi(saw) and Khadeeja beevi.

See, i said this before. Non malayali's will never understand the true meaning of this song. No point in clarifying it through these translations.
