Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of incarcerated former premier Nawaz Sharif, on Monday warned that she would go on a hunger strike if the government doesn't allow her father homemade meals.

"The fake government has imposed restrictions on homemade meals for Nawaz Sharif. The staff who took his food has been waiting outside the jail for the last five hours," she said via a tweet.

"Mian sahab has refused to eat prison food. If they [the government] do not take back this restriction in the next 24 hours, then I will contact the court."

"If I don't get help from the court, then I will sit outside Kot Lakhpat jail. Even if I have to go on a hunger strike, I will do it," she warned in another tweet.

"I don't trust these oppressors; they can mix anything in Mian sahab's food," she said, adding her warning should not be considered a mere threat and that she would go through with it.

Dawn.com has reached out to the jail authorities for a comment.

Nawaz Sharif is currently serving seven-year imprisonment in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case in Kot Lakhpat jail.

Last week, Punjab chief minister’s spokesperson Shahbaz Gill had said: "No meal restrictions have been placed on Nawaz Sharif as reported by a section of the media. Even today [July 2], his meal came from his home.”

The Punjab government only suggested forming a doctors’ panel to advise diet chart and provide him a cook for the same, he said.

“Dr Adnan, personal doctor of Nawaz Sharif, meets him regularly but every time misleads everyone on his health issues only to keep his job. This is unfortunate. He is not a cardiologist but the Sharif family keeps insisting on his cardiac expertise, only for propaganda purposes,” he added.

He should be given the same food as the rest of the inmates. He is not superior and worthy of special treatment.

lol she'll never go on hunger strike..that will be the day..actually i say she should maybe we can then be done with her..lol

Why is she always trying to portray her father as some Nelson Mandela or Martin Luther King Jr? I’m getting sick and tired of their lies man.

She will be on the “political” hunger strike. Which means she will be not be eating or drinking in front of the camera. But the poor patwaris will be on a real one and a few would probably die as well. But who cares? Anything for the great Mian ji..

Alright Bibi go ahead. That will be a sight!

Outside the jail too?

We need a 24hr live FEED to ensure she isn't hiding any chawal in her clothes.

Politics should remain professional.

It should not get linked with amateurish stuff like this.

first of all, can someone ask her why her dad needs homemade food ? can someone quote her from some law books ?

Nawaz is a prisoner now and should be treated as one. The government should never be threatened by family members going on a hunger strike. Let her go on a hunger strike if she wants. There is no legit reason why her corrupt and traitor Dad should be given preferential treatment.

They can go on a hunger strike or jump over a cliff just give back those billions of dollar that your papa, chachu and gang have looted from the country and leave us in peace...

Maryam says will lead protest rallies across Pakistan, asks people to join

Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of incarcerated former premier Nawaz Sharif and a vice-president of the PML-N, announced on Tuesday that she would be leading protest rallies across the country and asked people who wish "to live in a free, democratic and just Pakistan" to join.

"Insha’Allah I shall be leading protest rallies across Pakistan that will not only ask for justice for Nawaz Sharif but demand rule of law, freedom of expression, end to manipulation of the entire system to punish public representatives, stealing people’s mandate, imposition of selected," said Maryam on Twitter.

"Every Pakistani who wishes to live in a free, democratic and just Pakistan must join," she added.

Although Maryam did not specify when the protest rallies would start, PML-N shared on Twitter that she would address a rally in Faisalabad on Sunday [July 21].

Maryam has been at the forefront of PML-N's allegations against judge Arshad Malik, who convicted Nawaz Sharif in the Al Azizia reference last year.

On July 7, while addressing a rally in Mandi Bahauddin, she asked Prime Minister Imran Khan to resign and “go home”, urging the crowd to chant slogans along with her.

Speaking on the leaked video of judge Malik, she said that keeping the PML-N supremo in jail would be a crime now, alleging that his sentencing had been “given under immense pressure”.

Maryam was given a rousing welcome by a large number of party workers on the Motorway and other points on way to Mandi Bahauddin.

Nerve to call PTI oppressors. It wasn't PTI who gunned down pregnant women and innocent people in broad daylight. Absolute skum.

Good luck with your 'protests'

It’s gonna be for her own good if she does follow through

What the heck is she protesting for?

How can criminals be given home food?

This happens nowhere in the world.

Is there some kind of law in Pakistan that permits such priviliges for criminals in jails?
