I actually thought it was propaganda until Zarrar Khuhro from Dawn tv also confirmed this. ANP for some reason gets away with even murders, their leaders were involved in shocking murder of Perween Rehman with help of Talibans. Their workers were also involved in Karachi violence and responsible for hundreds of murders but they remain darlings of liberals.

ANP is a pathetic and incompetent party overall, good for nothing, i hope PTI buries them forever.

Read it before, baffled how could this happen at University premises of all places.

What is the point of education then?

Sentence every single of them for life. Why were university students even discussing this? There is no point of them being in a university if they can't handle different opinions.

I agree. Universities are supposed to encourage thought and questioning, not conformity of the worst kind.

PESHAWAR, Pakistan – A court in northwestern Pakistan has sentenced to life imprisonment two men convicted of involvement in the killing of Mashal Khan, a university student who was beaten and then fatally shot by a mob in 2017 after being falsely accused of blasphemy.

The two men — Arif Khan, a local leader of Pakistan's ruling party led by former cricket star Imran Khan, and Asad Khan — were in court in Peshawar for the sentencing.

The death of the 23-year-old Mashal was caught on video that later circulated on social media. Initially 61 people were charged with a variety of offences and 57 people were handed varying sentences in the case. Many are appealing the verdicts.

It wasn't immediately known if the two men sentenced on Thursday would also appeal.

Mashal murder case: PHC commutes convict’s death penalty to life in prison

The Peshawar High Court on Thursday commuted death penalty of a convict in life sentence for the 2017 lynching of university student Mashal Khan.

As per details, the Court also declared the acquittal of 25 accused in the case void and ordered their arrest.

The appeals were filed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, Mashal’s father and the convicts who were awarded jail terms by the trial court.

Mashal Khan, 23, was a student of the Department of Mass Communication at Mardan’s Abdul Wali Khan University. He was brutally lynched by a mob over rumours that he had committed blasphemy by posting sacrilegious content online on April 13, 2017.

Convict Imran, who was awarded capital punishment, was found guilty of firing shots at the victim student from his pistol, which led to his death.

He had also confessed to the crime before the court.
