Massive South African desi interest in the Champions Trophy Final

Non desi South Africans are showing very little or no interest in the CT final after exit of the Proteas

However there is a massive interest in this game amongst South Africa's desi population

So who will South Africa's desi population be supporting.

The desi population in South Africa comprises mainly of three groups, Tamils,Gujaratis and those from Konkan

Tamils are 90% hindu and 10% will be supporting India

Gujaratis are about 50% hindu and 50% Muslim. All the hindu's in this group will be supporting India and most if not all those in the muslim in this group will be supporting Pakistan.

Konkans are 100% muslim and will be supporting Pakistan. A large number of muslims from Konklan moved to Pakistan during partition.

Quite informative. Are the 3 groups roughly equal in size or are the Gujratis much more numerous compared to the others?

The majority of the desis are Tamil and live mainly in Durban. Most of South Africa's top academics are tamil

The Gujarati population are the second biggest and live throughout South Africa and move to any part of South Africa that has business opportunities. South Africa's richest desi community are Gujaratis

The Konkan community live mainly in Cape Town and own mainly small grocery shops

That's interesting, there is literally zero interest in NZ.

You wouldn't even know the CL Final is today unless you follow the sport.

Apart from rugby which sport do people follow there? Soccer / field hockey/ netball ?

I find it absurd that you are suggesting their allegiance is based on religion.

It's a fact, Hindu India and Muslim Pakistan factor decides which team the neutrals ( Hindus and Muslim's) support in a clash between the two.

Now please don't write a big essay on how India is not a Hindu Country .

With how the Warriors and Black Caps are going.. Rugby first, second and third...

But more realistically...

Rugby >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Rugby League >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cricket

America's Cup is really popular atm as NZ are competing with Oracle for it atm. It's probably equal first with Rugby currently in terms of interest. A lot more people have followed TNZ than the Black Caps in the Champions Trophy.

I don't need to. Not when facts are pulled out of thin air to suggest such stupid notions.

Your own country's majority Kashmiri Muslim's are supporting Pakistan today. Fact.

And Kashmiri Pandits are supporting India. Fact.

Factor : Religion.

God Forbid if Pakistan wins today, there will be non-stop " in your face " celebrations in front of the Indian Army in Valley.

Why would Indian Muslims support Pakistan?

Is it because New Zealand have been knocked out or is interest in cricket generally at a low?

It's been generally low throughout.

Just hasn't been the same since McCullum left, the brand of cricket the NZ side play now doesn't draw casuals.

Guys like McCullum, Ryder, Guptill and Anderson are draws to casuals. Guptill has gotten some people to watch, Anderson has been struggling.

As predicted, Maoris got a good thrashing.

Whats the mood for the All blacks vs Lions game in NZ?

LOL after dropping two matches to Super Rugby sides :)))

Most expect the ABs to cruise past the Lions, they've been very underwhelming in the lead up games and a 'rusty' ABs side completely destroyed Samoa this week.

Attention seems to be mostly on the Lions series, but the America's Cup is getting quite a bit of attention.
