In the 17th match of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9, Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars will face off at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi today on Saturday.

Lahore Qalandars, two-time PSL champions, are experiencing a return to their pre-2020 struggles when they consistently languished at the bottom of the points table. Unfortunately, their hopes for a third consecutive title have been shattered after enduring six consecutive defeats.

Meanwhile, their opponents Peshawar Zalmi are riding high on confidence following a thrilling eight-run victory over Islamabad United. Led by Babar Azam, the Zalmi side currently holds the third position in the points table, having lost two out of five games played.

As per Ian Bishop during commentary:

There will be an inspection at 14:30 local time.

Most of the covers are off now.

I hope qalandars bowl first. I want to see Shaheen bowling in these conditions, I want to see his ball control and where he lands the ball in these gloomy conditions.

Rain is playing the role of Party-spoiler so far. Want to see the game. Wet outfield is still a thing. not good

Looks like we will be having a game soon. ALmost all the covers are off and there is no sign of rain as well for now.

Update:

The umpires have completed their inspection, conversing with the ground staff. The covers have been removed, stumps set up, and the roller is in action. hoping for toss soon.

Why can't Pak get those massive sheets and cover the entire ground like they do in SL rather than have these 3-4 patches around while the rest of the ground is soaking in water.

There is no chance that this match will happen. It's still raining and cloudy, and the prediction is for full day rain.

Match has been called-off due to rain. Both sides share one point each.

Both sides earned one point each, resulting in Lahore Qalandars gaining a point without winning any matches, while Peshawar Zalmi maintained the third position in the PSL 9 points table.

The 17th match of the HBL Pakistan Super League 9 between Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars was called off due to persistent rain and a wet outfield at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi today.

The Pindi-leg of the HBL PSL was scheduled to kick off with a doubleheader on Saturday, of which the first game saw Zalmi, placed third on the table, and Qalandars placed sixth on the table, sharing a point each.

It would had not made any difference. Its raining heavily in Rawalpindi today.

SL and Pakistan have different weather conditions.

Why can't they invest in this
Not required.

In Sri Lanka it rains alot, which is why they required those big covers and have a team to cover the ground and all.

Rawalpindi and Pakistan itself doesnt get much rain. We have moonsoon in august or after thats when you cant schedule here. And the winter rain takes place in Rawalpindi in the end of December. These rains are delayed rains due to global warming..

Rawalpindi trend is that it gets few drops and weather clears up. Investing soo much money on such things for one game makes no sense. No ones fault here really.
They might even have issues preparing the ground for the next games in the coming days.
Naa, the drainage at Rawalpindi is pretty good. They can easily despose of the water in the large sewerage lines that exist on the grounds fence.

PCB would have known about the weather forecast in Rawalpindi today atleast a week in advance. They should have held the games in either Lahore or Multan

It doesn't matter how much it rains or not in a calendar year.

It is much about being prepared for any circumstances and this instance it just looks like a joke as those pictures posted show how they have patches of covers dropped in some parts of the ground while the rest is drenched in water.

Having full ground covers would atleast make sure that it keeps all the ground covered and doesn't get drenched in water when it does rain.

Weather patterns have changed all over the world and the way it is going it will only get worse over time as unusual things have happened already.

full ground covers isnt really required. Like out of 50 games you will have 1 or 2 wash out because the weather is not as such that it rains much here.

I dont know why full grounds are not covered but i think there maybe a valid reasons to it because many countries dont cover full ground. Only sri lanka does this

Surely this is it for LQ now? I mean they already needed a miracle by needing to win all 4 games but now with this wash out it is almost impossible..

Rain spoiled the party for Lahore and Peshawar. Lahore Qalandars will be more worried now as they are 99% out of this PSL with just 3 games remaining for them to play.
