His average is mediocre and so is his keeping.

In last 30 years probably the worst keeper batsman to have played so many test matches.

He has played a few good innings so I wouldn't say he is the worst. I remember he scored a century against Pakistan in January this year when Australia were really struggling.

Then, who is the worst wicket keeper batsmen currently?

Only Sarfraz Ahmed, Quinton De Kock and Jonny Bairtow are good Wicket Keeper batsmen, rest are pretty average with the bat.

Shane Dowrich's stats aren't anything to write home about. That being said, I think he is decent, he looked solid when we played them. I would say Wade is better than Dowrich but worst is unfair. It's just that keepers such as Bairstow, de Kock, Sarfraz etc are really good so Wade may not be good as them but worst implies that he's bad which I don't think he is

Sarfraz is very overrated. Hardly done anything outside asian conditions. He is good player but no way he is best in business. Atm, Bairstow and QDK are very good with bat, and Saha is exceptional with the glove but very average with bat.

He averaged 57 with the bat at a strike rate of more than 80 in Australia on their most recent tour.

Saha has been exceptional in the last 12 months, played so many clutch innings and is an excellent keeper.

He's rubbish.

But the management want a loud keeper. And he's definitely that.

At the moment, yes !! but the lad's got nothing over Kamran Akmal who was an ATG at such for more than half a decade.

Australia has gone quickly from having the greatest keeper-batsmen in Healy and Gilchrist to one of the best in the world in Haddin to the worst!

I do think Dowrich is worse on both batting and keeping but at least he's young and inexperienced unlike Wade.

That's why australia has also gone from being the best side in cricketing history to losing a test match to bangladesh :uakmal

Wade has been the worst keeper batsmen in the world his entire international career and unlike Haddin who was also a substandard keeper his batting isn't even particularly good.

30 years? have you forgotten about our wonderboy, Kamran Akmal? Easily the worst regular intl wicketkeeper in the history of the game.

i thought Kami was top of that list,, to be fair it would be ver hard to topple kimi off the top spot

I remember wade scoring those runs against india when he came.

Luckily during that time i was actually in new delhi and everyone called him waa-dee over there

Matthew Wade - Why even bother?

Is he the worst WK-batsmen around, or am I missing something in him that I'm yet to see?

Surely they're better WKs in Australia? Hell it may even be a better option to play a batsmen that can WK a little. They won't be missing much.

And it all started with so much hope.

Kamran Akmal by far the worst test wicket keeper intact that Eng tour 2010 was his peak of pathetic display and if you want to sum it up in one game then it is Sydney 2010

Joke of a cricketer. I cant believe he plays for Australia.

You can thank Pakistan for that. We let him score a century recently and that is why he is hanging onto his spot in the side.

You are welcome India

:salute

I have changed my mind recently. Not impressed by his batting in Asia and he is not anywhere near the standards of some of the other keepers like QDK, Bairstow, Sarfraz

he makes kamran akmal look like gilchrist

terrible batsman and terrible keeper

I'm trying to think of which other nations teams he would make and all I can come up with is WI (I don't see much of Afghan or Zim these days so possibly them, then again the Afghans are on a good run & at least these guys can probably keep wicket).

Years ago he was a decent bat, but he's been in steep decline for some time. He's never been good with the gloves. He gets picked because he comes across as a "fighter"- e.g he's loud & rude. I think the management feel that without Haddin around, Steve Smith teams come across as a bit soft because Smith is not your usual rough, tough Aussie type Captain like Ponting or Waugh etc (Clarke had some old hard heads from that era to help in that regard).

Kami was not bad yar.. he was excellent bat and wk.. but he was a big big fixer..used to drop catches and miss runouts and stumpings intentionally.. those eng and aus tours, can be seen v.clearly.. but he has got powerful sources so never get caught in any investigation... just look at that runout where he collected the ball properly and is waiting for batsman to reach the crease and didn't break the bails until then.. bloody fixer he was..
Otherwise he would have been the best wk bat in the country atleast..he is the best bat without any doubt in pak wk history..still is great bat n hitter n better than sarfraz in batting... but not in keeping now..

These kami brothers never played for pak..only for themselves, for money and curruption.. umer showed fake injury when management didn't select kamran.. n at that time umer was the most imp bat.. they have nothing to do with patriotism or country

That Sydney Test was diabolical. He ruined Sami's career that day. Sami was humming, bowling quick, late seeing & had wrecked our top order... then the catches started going down & how do you keep your heart up when you know the guy behind the stumps has going to do you over & has no interest in winning? Was the last chance for Sami's career really & he looked like he had responded by turning the corner & putting together some beautiful spells. Then some guy starts cheating.

Yes he is.

What do the Aussies see In him ??

Apart from being aggressive and mouthy he doesn't back it up by fumbling so many balls and then not scoring enough runs.

Well here are the current keepers:

Australia: Tests & ODIs = Wade;
South Africa: Tests & ODIs = De Kock;
England: Tests = Bairstow, ODIs = Butler;
India: Tests = Saha, ODIs = Dhoni;
Pakistan: Tests & ODIs - Sarfraz;
New Zealand: Tests = Watling, ODIs = ?? (Ronchi just retired);
Sri Lanka: Tests & ODIs = Dickwella;
WIs: Tests & ODIs = Shai Hope;
Bangladesh: Tests & ODIs = Mushfiqur Rahim;

Not going to bother listing the Zimbabwe, Ireland and Afghan keepers.

Looking at that list Wade really is the worst in the world imo (excluding the minnows) - how embarrassing.

His bowling isn't bad tbh.

Worcestershire CCC have signed top Australian wicket-keeper-batsman Matthew Wade, who has made more than 170 international appearances across all three formats, for the 2022 campaign.

Cricket Steering Group Chairman Paul Pridgeon says capturing Wade's signature is "a signal of intent" from the club in their desire to continue to progress.

He believes the 33-year-old can significantly contribute in red-ball and white-ball cricket and has been signed primarily to play purely as a batsman and bolster the top five.

But Pridgeon also feels his winning mentality will rub off on and benefit the younger players at New Road with their development.

Wade has played 36 Tests, hitting four hundreds, 97 ODIs, and 43 T20Is in a lengthy and successful career with Australia.

Wade demonstrated his quality at the highest level when he hit two centuries against England in the drawn 2019 Ashes Series.

Wade captained Australia for the first time in a T20I versus India last December at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and skippered Victoria to two Sheffield Shield titles.

He has scored 8,492 first-class runs at an average of 40.82, in addition to 4,675 List A at 32.69 and 2901 T20 at 27.11.

It shows even in Australia favoritism exists. This guy is not even play in Australia C team let alone play as captain in Australia main team.

I wouldn't call him worst but he has been quite average.

Aussies used to have likes of Gilchrist and Haddin. Standard has fallen a lot.

I think Carey should be the permanent keeper batsman. He is young too.

Worst keeper is Mushfiqir Rahim, he had cost Bangladesh a lot of upset wins. Every match 1-2 drop is a norm, there are better keepers in Bangladesh like Liton & Nurul. Not watching the Aus Bd matches but following the scorecard, it's evident that oldies like Mahmudullah Tamim and Mushfiq needs to make way, as they are finished.

I see a young Ashraful in Afif Hossain, they look alike but in terms of stats he is a little behind :sachin

^^
These guys would be calling the physio the doctor every three seconds if they take such balls directly on their bodies. Wade on the other hand, doesn't even give a rat's rear end about it and challenges the pacer, to bring it even more.

Malinga at his prime looked like a net bowler bowling to Kohli. Also, Kohli took on Mitch Johnson scored a ton after Johnson made 6-7 Englishmen retire from cricket.

Not happy with snicko not picking up the edge in IPL

Better than Kamran Akmal for sure. Playing Kamran like opponents playing with 15 players and we are with 8 players.

Unacceptable. It's a paid holiday. Wade has anger management issues if he can't contain himself in a match which will be completely forgotten about in less than a day.

Wade is average cricketer. But he will be remembered playing epic knock against Pakistan in world T20 semifinal. Without Wade Pakistan go on to win the 2021 world T20 .

Since the start of last year's T20 World Cup, Matthew Wade averages over 100* in T20I cricket at a strike rate of more than 160

Australia haven't lost a game while chasing with Wade in the side since then.

he has finished not out in nine of his 12 innings.

Exceptional.

Wade has turned it around since last World T20. I think he is the best T20I keeper-batsman currently.

Whatever you say about him but his innings today could win the game for Karachi - 52*(39) so far.

I don't think he is the worst. He is quite gritty.

He is not very flashy/charismatic but does the job.

He struggles badly once the power play is over and the field is spread out.

For Hobart Hurricanes Mathew Wade has scored 82(50) against Melbourne Renegades which resulted in 6 wickets over Renegades.

Wade to retire from red-ball cricket after Shield final

The 36-year-old will continue to play white-ball formats for both Tasmania and Hobart Hurricanes

The Marsh Sheffield Shield final will be Matthew Wade's final first-class match with the veteran today confirming he would retire from red-ball cricket.

Wade, who is delaying his arrival at the Indian Premier League to play in the Shield final with his native Tasmania, told his state teammates of his decision before their final round fixture against South Australia.

Wade will continue playing white-ball formats and is expected to be part of Australia's T20 World Cup squad that travels to the Caribbean in June, and has two more seasons on his deal with the Hobart Hurricanes.

Australian stalwart Matthew Wade announces international retirement

Matthew Wade, one of Australia’s most successful and revered players, will begin his journey into coaching following his retirement from international cricket.

Wade played 36 Test matches, 97 One-Day Internationals and 92 T20 Internationals for Australia, his last at this year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies.

The Tasmanian featured in many Australia victories in his 13-year career, none more so than at the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup where his performance was integral to the team’s success.

He will join Australia’s coaching staff for the upcoming T20 Series against Pakistan under Andre Borovec and be with the group for the ODI Series which starts in Melbourne next week.

While his coaching career begins Wade will continue playing domestic cricket for Tasmania and in the Big Bash League with the Hobart Hurricanes for at least the next two summers.

Wade has been coaching Tasmanian youth and second XI sides during the winter, roles which he hopes to expand in and around the Australian system while playing through the summer.

Matthew Wade said: “I was fully aware my international days were most likely over at the end of the last T20 World Cup. My international retirement and coaching has been a constant conversation with George (Bailey) and Andrew (McDonald) over the past six months.

“Coaching has been on my radar over the last few years and thankfully some great opportunities have come my way, for which I am very grateful and excited.

“I will continue to play BBL and the odd franchise league over the summer months but around those commitments as a player I am investing heavily in my coaching.

“As my international career closes, I want to thank all of my Australian team mates, staff and coaches. I enjoyed the ride as challenging as it can be at international level. Without good people around me I would have never got as much out of myself as I did.

“I also thank my family, mum, dad and sisters for the countless hours they put in over the years getting me to games and training.

“Lastly to Julia and the kids. I can’t thank them enough for the sacrifices they have made for me to continue to pursue my dreams. No words can explain how grateful I am to them, none of this would have happened without their support.”

Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said: “Congratulations to Matthew on what has been a wonderful international career during which his skill and versatility has made him an outstanding performer across all formats.

“I’m delighted he will add to his massive contribution by coaching the next generation of stars and also continuing to light up the Big Bash with the Hobart Hurricanes.

Executive General Manager, High Performance & National Teams, Ben Oliver said: “We extend our thanks and congratulations to Matthew on an outstanding international career.

“Matthew was a much-loved teammate in Australian teams across all formats over the past 13 years. His resilience and adaptability were a feature throughout his career, and he should be incredibly proud of the impact that he had at international level.”

“We look forward to Matthew drawing on his wealth of experience as he transitions into coaching, and we wish he and his family the very best for the future.”

He should have retired in 2021 tbh. He was useless in 2024 but I'll never forget his shaheen spanking

Talented batter who didn't live up to his potential. Funny thing is he could have been captain in 2018, was dropped just before the SA tour.

A very fine T20 batting talent. That assault on Shaheen was no fluke.

At one point, nobody had a higher strike rate against 140 + pace bowling than Wade (190 odd) in the cricketing world. Australia used him well at #7 by hiding him from spinners and using him as a finisher against pace.

A gun t20 finisher. Useless in other formats besides keeping + Maybe playing a gem if an innings here and their.

His left foot is still 100x the batter rizzu ever can and will be
