"Maybe I should hit myself with cricket bats, burn my kit, or do something else": Kamran Akmal

Kamran Akmal speaking in an interview

"A few things left to do [to get noticed by selectors] - maybe I should hit myself with cricket bats, burn my kit, or do something else which will get the PCB to talk to me"

"From my end, I have done everything including maintaining fitness and form"

"You can ask the selectors, Sarfaraz Ahmed etc for their reasons [for not selection]"

"As far as what a player can do, I have given 100% effort"

"My cricket hasnt finished yet and I am playing wherever I get a chance and I am enjoying myself"

"What else can one do? If I fight [speak out] then I will get a notice [from the PCB]"

=====

Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has blamed national team captain Sarfraz Ahmed and Head Coach Mickey Arthur for showing bias in team selections.

Speaking at the National Stadium in Karachi, Akmal said that the captain and coach have a major say on which players make it into the squad while Chief Selector Inzamamul Haq does not seem to command any authority while making such decisions.

“These days, only the coach and captain decide who plays in the side,” he said. “It seems that the chief selector does not have major say in such decisions although the decision should be unanimously taken by all three.”
An emotional Akmal further said that it seems only a miracle will get him a chance in the side, stating: “Should I burn my kit bag or hit myself with a bat? Perhaps the only time I will come under reckoning is courtesy a miracle.”

The 36-year-old — who will be representing WAPDA in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy this season — also thinks that he can play in the future as he still has a lot to offer for Pakistan cricket.

“My fitness and performance is there for everyone to see,” he said. “I don’t think my cricket playing days are over yet.”

Akmal, who has scored over 6000 runs for the Men in Green, also criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for issuing notices even when players are raising voice for their due rights.

“If I am going to raise voice for my rights, a notice will be served in response,” he lamented.

Why would the selectors go back to a TTF who is now 36 years old?

Not to mention the worst wicket keeper of his time and a hopeless batsman who averages 30 in 53 Tests and 26 in 157 ODI's. Look at the number of matches he got to play considering how pathetic he was over all in both forms of the game.

I can think of quite a few Pakistani bowlers who would like to do that to Akmal

Hit your self with the bat is good idea as it might bring sense into your head. You are clearly awful just retire.

Clever jibe at Misbah, but if Kamran looks at his last 20 international innings, he will understand why he is sidelined.

Wow, look at the attitude.

Years of poor performances. He dropped catches when he was in the team, took his selection for granted and this is what he cmes up with .

He should be apologising to the nations for the matches he has lost us.

its funny, when kamran was playing. Sarfraz ahmed coming in wasn't even possible. Yet the same sarfraz became captain and this guy couldn;t

Looks like misbahs has given useless players like him few ideas and people compare him to imran lol.

I like both the options especially the first one if he uses a heavy bat. Kami don never fails to amaze with his creativity. Last time it was the holy trinity of chances which he wanted. Now he comes up with these gems.

Yes, whining and taunting the coach, captain and CS will definitely get you into the side. Kamran has always been a bright one.

Well, for starters, how about keeping the butter on the toast and not your fingers? Also I feel this pic below sums up how Kamran Akmal sees himself taking into account his good batting ability and not-so-good keeping ability.

He is coping Younis Khan!!!! May be selectors will give him opportunities against Australia and NZ series.

Anything possible in Pakistan cricket. He may come back along with Md Irfan along with others

Whats the Misbah connection here? Did Misbah burn his kit before getting selected?

He threatened to do that after being overlooked for the England tour in 2010.

Pakistan had announced the squads which will face Australia in two Twenty20 matches and two Tests followed by four Tests and two Twenty20 matches against England. Misbah was left out of both squads.

"It is very disappointing," Misbah told AFP. "You find yourself in the XI and suddenly you are not even in a preliminary squad of 35, it prompts you to burn all your cricket equipment in anger."

He was good enough as a top order batsman, but his wicketkeeping tarnished his reputation. Waste of talent.

He needs to look at his pathetic fielding, horrendous keeping and atrocious intnl batting performances as to why hes out if the team

Whining to the media wont do any good You had your chance and you took it for granted Look in the mirror for whos to blame

This guy has played over 250 matches for Pakistan and was mediocre for the vast majority of them.

Kamran really has no right to complain because he was given his chance and he failed multiple times.

There are many other cricketers that are scoring just like him right now who haven’t been given a chance yet who deserve a chance much more than him.

Best that he together with his brother's Umar even Adnan all burn their kit's together for most likely none of them will be representing Pakistan again. Never mind a ball Kamran couldn't catch a cold on top of which he laughs after dropping a catch. No one cares about a burdensome has been Cricketer like him, Pak fans like me will not be crying if he were to burn his kit coz his 100% effort is simply not good enough. These Akmal's some years back started thinking they were bigger then Pak Cricket making it so sweet to see them cry like this. If anyone replaces Sarfaraz it will surely be a youngster not a 36 year old!

Give poor guy a chance. He has worked hard. He fails this time, he won't ask again.
I think he will be successful though.

i wish media stops taking his interviews. it makes me sick everytime i read him.

Adnan Akmals injury in 2014 was best thing which happened to Pakistan cricket it gave Sarfraz chance and he grabbed it with both hands . He was final nail in coffin for Kami and Adnan. Umar could have carried on had he performed with bat

Don't really think his fitness is there to see? What fitness is he talking about again? Can't run can't catch can't field.

Why can't you take some responsbillity for your rubbish performances instead of blaming others? Pathetic attitude.

This is Pakistan's culture and mentality where anyone senior comes out lashing saying "mujhe kyon nikala?

Is this Pakistan or Akmalistan ?

You had your "three more chances" in the Caribbean and were a tubby mess.

These seniors seem to think they deserve a spot for life.

It’s amazing how many people have forgotten that. If Fernando hasn’t broken Adnan’s finger I wonder how much would be different

Life can be so fickle

Maybe he should look down, and realize that he can't even see his feet, and then do something about that. Then maybe he can even be in contention.

This guy was never given consistent chances. 10,000 runs were written on his forehead. Now he is 36 years old, still he will not settle for less than 8,000 runs in ODIs if given adequate chances.

Strange comments considering the skipper in all formats is a wicket-keeper and he is not going to drop himself is he.

He will probably miss if he decides to hit himself with the bat.

Will overthrow the maachis ki teeli and end up burning down his house.

He wouldn't even score 10,000 in women's cricket.

God he was trash after 2009 wasn't he. Dropped catches, poor batting displays and given numerous chances is what will define Kamran.

The problem is that Kamran Akmal is a poor poor fielder hence the possibility of him playing as a batsman does not exist.

Not given enough chances? He played non stop for years on end when he was mediocre with bat and atrocious with the gloves

He played far too much rather than not enough

It's sad he got chances year on end, probably played at least 100 matches where he didn't deserve it. Terrible keeping, flashy but ultimately poor batting that usually got him out early.

Now that he deserves it, he doesn't get chances. He has dominated in multiple editions of the PSL, scored big and quick in all formats, and more so really stood out as a match winner in domestic. And has done so for a few years now. You could have even argued he has been domestic's best player in recent years. And yet he's being kept out because all the terrible performances he gave in the past when he didn't deserve the pick.

"Maybe I should hit myself with cricket bats, burn my kit, or do something else."

Please do. Better still, learn magic and disappear.

Adnan would not have kept his place for long due to his tail-ender batting. Sooner or later, Sarfraz would have taken his position. However, that injury certainly quickened the transition.

The scariest thing is these kind of tactics from washed up cricketers tend to work in Pakistan

I wouldn't be surprised if I see Kamran Akmals name come up in selection talks again

Please tell me you are joking right? So you think 53 tests, 157 ODIs and 58 T20s was not enough?

Deserves little more like couple hundred more matches, I am being reasonsble here given his talent. I would not argue for Umar or Shehzad, but come on we are talking about Kamran here.

He has literally shut down all the doors to come back by saying this.He has got a lot of opportunities but he was mediocre with bat and poor with the gloves. He began to take his place for granted. That was his biggest mistake. He didn't work hard at that time, now what's the benefit of doing this now?

Career ending diss from Kami to Misbah, oh wait... :misbah

One thing is for sure, if he played for Imran Khan he would be something else. :akhtar

I think (hope) that this nonsense is a thing of the past.

The team is gelling well and pretty much all the players are on good terms with each other.

The last thing we need is such characters in the team, disrupting the team environment.

Thanks, but no thanks. ::J

In last three ODI chances, he score 47, 21 and 0
In last 4 T20 innings, 22, 0, 48, 20

Tell us Kami, why would Pakistan drop anyone to accommodate you
And not to mention you are pathetic in field too

Doubt it

Sarfraz was nowhere in the picture at the time, especially after the disaster in South Africa

All tactics failed by Akmal clan so far:
1) Met the ex PM
2) Incredible support from media
3) Performed well in PSL
4) Performed poorly in CPL/BPL, etc
5) Used AQ to shout for their cases
6) AQ's meeting with IK
7) Boot licking Inzi/Sarfaraz before
8) Outscored in domestics

He is right, there is no other option to do now to convince selectors. Hold on, selectors/PCB have already made up their minds to move on from them.
But this pak cricket, one injury to Sarfaraz, and Kami can return as captain, and then Umar, and Adnan as well.

Interesting times ahead

Disagree. He wasn't pathetic in the field, he was something even worse than that. Absolute shameful fielder i would say, easily the worst I have ever seen. And if he was interested to win back his spot he would have worked hours every day on his fielding and become a much fielder, but no, he would rather go and eat nihari and give interviews to these intern reporters.

Yet another ridiculous statement from this clown! Another TTF desperate to cry himself back into the Pakistan team and thinks he has some moral right due to seniority!

Some news Kami old boy :

1. You are finished

2. Inzi was just being nice to you - he didn't mean it

3. Micky ain't listenin

However, please go ahead and hit yourself with your cricket bat and burn your kit. It would ease some of the bad memories of your many missed catches, you costing us the Sydney test and the lingering suspicion that you were a crook.

Perhaps he is not being selected because he has generally displayed classlessness and acted without integrity throughout his career (and again in this interview), and Pakistan are trying to move away from that kind of culture and individual.

I dont use a resistance band so i am not sure how a squat is done with a resistance band. But normally you go much more lower than this in a normal squat.
