Mehwish Hayat decorated with Tamgha-e-Imtiaz on Pakistan Day

What a disgrace and shame to award such a high award to a actress. We could and should have awarded to one of our Female Doctors, Engineers, or such that have made a positive impact and helped the women of our country. What has she done?

True now becoming an actress or a singer or a dancer has become some sort of legendary achievement for the country. Such trivial professions being hyped and praised here.

These actresses are being projected as the next inspirational figures for future generations of girls in Pakistan.

Don't jealous people. Feel glad and happy for her.

well, i dont know if she deserves this or not, but i think they gave him this award too early ,her carrer just getting started.

Not being familiar with the Pakistani film/TV industry, is she actually a good actress? Or is she able ex model relying on her looks?

shes, model/singer/tv/film actress, shes a succesful actress of pakistani film industry on the basis of box office collection, after shabnam, saima and reema.
her last film gt the collection of 52+ crores , biggest collection ever in pakistani film industry history.

Exactly I dont want our women looking up to actress for inspiration and role model. This is not a respectable profession, they should strive to accel in academics and proper profession so they can reach their true potential.

No jealousy bro but a actress doesnt deserve such a award. What about our brave female in armed forces that are going thru such tough training and battling for their country? They deserve less award or more than mehwish hay at? Should women inspire to be actress or doctors, engineers, etc...

Well in that case she deserves it if she's breaking records. Need to build up Pakistani industry to atleast rival Bollywood movies at Pakistani.box office

OTT, she isn't even that good and her filmography is too brief for her to deserve this

She is actually quite a good actress and was brilliant in a very good drama Mere Qatil Mere Dildar,. Having said that she has not done enough to win such award. In show biz Pakistan have much better servants such as Rahat, Atif, ATA Allah Allah Khan, Shan, Sameena Peerzada, Umar Sharif, Nadeem (real superstar of Pak Film industry on his peak days he was just as famous as any Indian film actor, and produce more hits films than any Urdu film actor) etc etc. There are many greats who have passed away without much recognition.

Congrats to her. She is a good actress.

Those who are against giving her award: are you also against male actors getting award?

Nothing wrong in giving awards to female celebrities but i think there are more deserving candidates then Mehwish . She isn't the top Pakistani actress right now, Mahira Khan is.

This is the most riddiculous statement i have come across. Live and let live. If someone has the talent and potential to excel in show biz, they should be backed to the tilt, the country needs a vibrant entertainment industry. Right person for the right job. A lot of Pakistani guys and girls are now looking at a show biz career and many are quitting corporate jobs and are a lot bolder to take these decisions.

Someone who is not good looking or gifted enough to get into showbiz can get into academics or other professions.

I am so surprised by this. I had not even heard of her name before this. An someone shed some light on her body of work? What’s so special about her?

I heard she is some high ups personal favorite and hence got the award.

Some insanely ignorant comments in this thread. Not surprised though, these are the opinions of a common man on the streets in Pakistan and he will give you similar responses.

Congrats to her.

Usually artists are awarded Pride of Performance awards. Which should have sufficed in her case.
Tamgha e Imstiaz is third most highest civil award in Pakistan after Nishan e Pakistan & Hilal e Imtiaz.

Great artists, writer, producer, directors from the past haven;t gotten it so why her?

Not a respectable profession? What a chauvanistic and ignorant comment. Acting is one of the oldest and respected professions and the arts is an important part of any culture. You don't get to decide who girls see as their role models, and nothing wrong in an actress being one. Only in Pakistan can someone degrade artistic professions.

I'm glad our own actors are getting recognized and appreciated, it'll play a big step in furthering our local industry and bringing in more talent.

Showbiz indeed not a bad profession but the deserving person should have been awarded. GOP used to be pathetic on awards distribution bcz even people like sharmila farooqi been awarded too back in 2011, I think.

Why all the hate? She received the lowest category Award it's not like she got a Hilal or Sitara like Wasim/Waqar or Yasir.

In fact, excelling in Showbiz is no easy or mean feat given the competition and challenges involved, perhaps way more than what girls would have to face in other fields. All the more reason to reward and recognize artists and performers.

Thank you for understanding what this Award means, most people on here dont know the value of the award and are here defending showbiz and women's rights etc... If you know the value of the award you will understand why I say this person doesnt deserve it.

It's not a respectable profession. We all like seeing sizzling stars on tv and movies, dancing and doing romantic scenes and item numbers...but nobody will want their daughter or sister or mother doing these things. That's why I said that not respectable profession

I know you would sometimes come across vulgarity in movies/tv shows. But thats to do with the choices some actors make. Just like how a bowler would do a mankad or do spot fixing.

Overall it is not right to label is as not respectable.

Absolute drivel. No, you wouldn't want and that says a lot about your mindset than the profession. Acting is as legitimate as a profession as being a doctor or an engineer and I have even more respect for our actresses who chased their dreams in a country riddled with men who think like you. Quite hypocritical of you to enjoy the movies but disrespect the people who've worked in it.

Actors should get civilian awards only after a life time of performance. Lowers the value of the awards otherwise.

The list of Tamgha-e-Imtiaz recipients is rather strange. Previous recipients from showbiz include Saba Qamar, Atif Aslam, Junaid Jamshed and Hadiqa Kiani. But there are no singers/actors from the pre-2000 era which was arguably the golden age of PTV. It all seems a bit arbitrary and random. Also someone has edited the wikipedia list to mark Mehvish Hayat's award as 'ineligible/deprecated'.

She is an artificial beauty. I suppose you could say the same about most actresses, but she is probably the biggest beneficiary of cosmetic surgeries in history of Pakistani showbiz, something that has backfired badly for a lot of actresses.

Nevertheless, she has come leaps and bounds as an actress and deserves this award. Well done to her.

Those against her are just jealous that they cannot achieve something like this even if they lived five times over and the only thing they have to look forward to in life is protruding belly, male pattern baldness and mortgage payments. Good luck.

Your statement is Absolute drivel. Being an actor you are essentially a professional liar. No way can you compare that with engineer or doctor. I dont watch item songs, I'm not being a hypocrite. I was telling you an example that helps you understand. My opinion is mine, dont know why you are getting sick over it. Those that support her getting this award are free to support, may Allah give you daughters, sisters, and mothers that are in same profession so you can be proud and support

Well, an actress just earned a civilian award, no matter how much you try and trivialise the profession. If my daughter turns out to be a succesfull actress, I would be an extremely proud father. Although I hope you never have one, I'd feel for the girl having to grow up with sexist for a father. Professional liar? So Marlon Brando, Daniel Day Lewis, and Tom Hanks are nothing but liars? Like I said, absolute drivel.

Your final retort says everything about your mindset, assuming it's shameful for females to be artists. May Allah guide you in not being a self righteous dunce.

I’ve been called a tawaif, a slut, a ***** and so many other fanciful names so often that it has stopped affecting me. Actually she was very attractive pre surgery if anything the surgery has spoiled her looks

To each their own, but the cosmetic surgeries have massively enhanced her mass appeal and have helped her win roles she was not fit for before.

Nevertheless, she deserves appreciation. It is a bold step especially in our society and it is also risky, but she gave it a shot and it has paid dividends.

Cosmetic surgery can also inculcate acting skills?

Every day you take dumbness to whole new frontier.

I am not sure why I continue to waste my time and energy on explaining elementary stuff to you, but I will once again oblige out of the goodness of my heart.

Acting skills are only a part of becoming a successful actor/actress - no matter how good an actor you are, there will be plenty of roles and characters for which you will not be considered based on your appearance.

Cosmetic surgeries have not helped her improve her acting skills, but it has transformed her personality, boosted her public profile and helped her land roles in films like Actor in Law and Punjab Nahi Jaungi that have taken her career to the next level.

Without cosmetic surgeries, she would probably still be limited to dramas on Hum and ARY and not blockbuster films grossing over 50 crores.

We need to show more respect to our awards. At the moment we are giving them to nobody's who have achieved nothing. This lady has worked in no movie at all, just a sign of desperation on Pak's part to give to her.

My response had been removed for some reason. so I will restate, I will not bend down to your level and call you names and wish you dont have a daughter. I pray that Allah opens your understanding and eyes. Stay Blessed.

Bend down? You hit rock bottom insinuating it's shameful having an actress for a daughter. You post drivel you'll be called out. As for the rest, I reiterate my final sentence. Cheers.

'Ms Marvel' Actor Hits Back After Pak Ex-Army Officer's 'Honey Trap' Claim

Pakistan actors Sajal Ali, Kubra Khan and Mehwish Hayat shot down the allegations that they were being used as 'honey traps' by the country's army. Sajal Ali, who featured opposite Sridevi in the Bollywood film 'Mom', said that character assassination is the worst form of humanity and sin.

"It is very sad that our country is becoming morally debased and ugly; character assassination is the worst form of humanity and sin," the 28-year-old actor tweeted.

Her statement comes after a retired Pakistan Army officer, Adil Raja, claimed in a YouTube video that some of the country's female actors were used by the military to trap politicians. He does not name the actors in the video but did give out their initials.

Internet sleuths were quick to the conclusion that the actors in question could be Sajal Ali, Mahira Khan, Kubra Khan, and Mehwish Hayat.

Kubra Khan also responded to the ex-military officer's allegations saying that she will take action against him. In an Instagram story, she wrote "I stayed quiet initially because obviously a fake video isn't going to take over my existence But ENOUGH IS ENOUGH."

"Apko lagta hai ke koi random log Mujhe pe behte bithaye ungli uthayenge Aur main chup behtoongi toh apki soch hai. So Mr Adil Raja before you start to heap allegations upon people have some proof first."

She asked Adil Raja to come up with proof within three days or apologise publicly.

Mehwish Hayat, who played a key role in the Marvel show 'Ms Marvel', called the allegations baseless and said that this has to stop now.

"Shame on you for spreading baseless allegations and insinuations about someone you know nothing about and even bigger shame on people who blindly believe this ********," Mr Hayat wrote on Instagram.

"But this stops and it stops now! I will not allow anyone to defame my name in this way anymore," she added.

Actors Mahira Khan has refrained from reacting to the ongoing controversy.

Ah after reading the title of this thread a lot of her statements make sense..

SHC orders removal of defamatory content about Mehwish Hayat online, issues two-week notices to FIA, PTA

Actor Mehwish Hayat has followed in Kubra Khan’s footsteps and taken legal action against YouTuber Adil Raja for defamatory content shared online. The actor had initially approached the FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing to look into the matter, however, due to lack of progress, she approached the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday for remedy.

A petition was filed in the SHC by Hayat that reads that the London Nahi Jaunga actor is “aggrieved by a social media storm generated and precipitating due to certain videos made by an individual by the name Adil Farooq Raja who claims to be a self-professed ‘geopolitical analyst’ and ‘rights activist’ maintaining a YouTube channel by the name of Soldier Speaks as well as a Twitter handle by the name Soldier Speaks”.

She called the allegations levelled by Raja “blatantly false, derogatory, defamatory, malicious, incendiary, dangerous [and] sensationalising” and said they “degrad[ed]” the four actors he mentioned in his video, “causing an affront to their modesty and dignity by alleging that they were used by intelligence agencies and the establishment to lure politicians into compromising positions at safe houses maintained by such agencies where videos were made of such actresses with such politicians.”

Her petition stated that after the livestream aired, several social media users on Twitter and Instagram started superimposing Hayat’s pictures as well as those of other actors whose initials were uttered by Raja. She argued that Raja spelled out Hayat’s name initials M and H in the video and “certain social media users intentionally with an interest to malign state institutions and to malign the reputation of the petitioner launched a social media campaign on such a video aired by Mr Raja.”

In the petition, several Twitter accounts other than Raja’s have been named for “propagating” the video and its “malicious content” that maligns the state institutions as well as Hayat.

“Despite the clarification contained in the second video, the social media users mentioned in Para 6 above did not abate their campaign, in fact the above mentioned comments made by Mr Raja gave wind to the incendiary campaign being run by the individual social media users mentioned in Para 6, creating a threatening environment for the petitioner. Given the current high political temperature of the country, and the ongoing political battle between certain political parties of the country, such insinuation and allegations against the petitioner have made her fear for her life at the hands of overzealous political workers who may target her because of the incendiary remarks against the petitioner made by the users as detailed in Para 6 hereinabove,” read the petition.

Hayat has petitioned the court under sections 11 (hate speech), 20 (offences against dignity of a natural person), 21 (offences against modesty of a natural person and minor) and 37 (unlawful online content) of the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act, 2016.

The petition stated that there have been countless previous instances where the dignity of women is “ridiculed in such fashion over social media”, however, it’s high time official respondents are taken to “task for their sluggish attitude in such circumstances and their derogation from their official duties of protecting the dignity and reputation of the persons like the petitioner”.

“Despite the law sufficiently empowering the official respondents to take action in such circumstances, it has been noted time and again that no immediate protection or relief is accorded to the complainants before the official respondents, forcing them to bring the matter to the attention of the Honourable Courts,” the petition stated.

In her petition, Hayat asked for six areas of relief from the court — that the court direct the FIA to take immediate action on her complaints, that it direct the FIA to inquire and take action as per the law against the users mentioned in the petition and for the court to declare that the FIA’s inaction in the interim period is in derogation of the duties cast upon them by PECA, 2016.

She also asks that “the Honourable Court may be pleased to direct the official Respondents/FIA to conclude their inquiries and pass appropriate orders for the prosecution of such individuals, including but not limited to the users mentioned in Para 6 hereinabove, and others as are found to have contravened the provision of PECA, 2016, by damaging the reputation, modesty and dignity of the petitioner through the use of social media platforms as well as causing harm to national integrity and state institutions.” She has also asked for the costs of instant proceedings in the favour of Hayat and any and all relief granted to her as deemed fit and appropriate.

The SHC ordered the FIA to remove the content that maligns Hayat and issued two-week notices to the FIA and PTA regarding the defamation case. Speaking to the media outside the court, Hayat said that she hopes that the people who defamed her are held accountable for their actions.

What happened

On January 2, Kubra Khan threatened to sue YouTuber Raja for defamation after a video in which he said that four “top models and actresses” had illicit relationships with former top generals.

“I stayed quiet initially because obviously a fake video isn’t going to take over my existence but ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Do you think random people can point fingers at me and I’ll sit quietly and take it?” she wrote on Instagram and Twitter.

“So Mr Adil Raja before you start to heap allegations upon people have some proof first. You have a total of three days to come up with this proof which you claim is haq and sach. If not, either retract your statement and publicly apologise or I will be suing you for defamation. And don’t worry, lucky for you I’m not just from here, I am from UK so I’ll come there if I have to! Cause the truth is with me, rights are with me and I don’t fear anyone or their fathers,” Khan said.

Raja, who describes himself on Twitter as a geopolitical analyst and rights activist, released a video on December 31 in which he made several sweeping statements against the former top leadership of the army. One allegation was that four “top models and actresses” would fraternise with the former officials as well as with politicians. He was unable to substantiate his claims with proof other than claiming it was revealed to him by “sources”.

He also mentioned the initials of the four women he was making the claims about — MK, MH, SA and KK or AK. The confusion in the last set of initials was compounded when he claimed to have said AK after Khan’s tweet.

Amid widespread speculation on social media of who the actors he mentioned could be, given the initials, Hayat and Sajal Aly had shared messages slamming “baseless insinuations” and “character assassination”.

Several other members of the entertainment fraternity have called out the YouTuber for his video and expressed their support for women actors.

Khan has already filed a petition against Raja and the SHC has directed the FIA and PTA to block defamatory content posted about her.
