For me it has to be WC 2011 India Vs Pakistan Semifinal. So many dropped catches and could not chase an average total. If we had won that ,pretty sure we would have won the World Cup.:afridi

2007 World t20, and 2010 World t20 semi.

Bring the "t20 is just fun cricket" brigade, but losing like that isn't fun :sree

2010 Test SCG

2010 Test Lords

2013 Test Cape Town

1996 World Cup Quarter Final. That was our strongest team of the 1990s looking to defend the world title in Asian conditions. The batting had Saeed Anwar, Amir Sohail, Salim Malik, Ijaz Ahmed and Inzamam-ul-Haq all in their primes and were up against a fairly weak Indian side.

Yet despite all those odds in our favour, we choked that night big time, especially after the brilliant T20esque start Anwar and Sohail got us off too.

Honourable mentions:

Hobart Test 1999

Ireland match in 2007 World Cup

Sydney Test 2010

That 2005 Fatullah Test against an ATG AUS team.

WC 2011, mainly because Afridi was our captain. Every night, I think of Afridi holding that trophy instead of Sachin.

2011 mohali world cup semi final against india.I still feel my spine tingle when i think about that match. :(

Such an easy answer! 1999 Final. This one result means Pak has two 50 over WC wins!

Nothing before 2004?

Big ones that come to mind

1996 World Cup Quarter-Final
1999 World Cup Final
2007 World T20 Final
2011 World Cup Semi-Final

Besides results a match that really hurt on an emotional level was the Test against England in 2010 where 3 of our brightest players got caught in match fixing. Thats was a very hard time for us Pakistani fans, we had just been taken away the right to play cricket in Pakistan, and then this happened.

Oh yes I forgot to mention the 2010 World T20 Semi-Final. That really hurt, Micheal Hussey single handedly chased down that total. To do this day very very few times has a 150+ score against us been chased. Felt awful that day.

Test: Bangalore test in 2005 India-Pakistan series, I believe we should have drawn it on the final day with our famous batting line up. Pakistani bowling wasn't world class but we bottled it.

ODI: 2003 WC final, emotionally heartbreaking match, still can't understand why we chose to bowl first.

T20: 2014 WT20 final,Yuvraj and Dhoni sank the boat and nullified Kohli's brilliance against the Lankans.

The thing is i started watching cricket first during this world cup and you can imagine the pain i went through when we lost the match but still this is a sport and bad days do happen.

If you just started watching it doesn't hurt as much as if u been following it for 10 years++

07 WC final, one of the first matches i remember watching and it broke my heart. Didn't watch cricket for years after that

For me there are many, but one that I remember from the top of my head is Asia Cup 2012 vs India. 330 set on the board for India to chase. But our bowlers just failed to turn up and Virat Kohli played a blinder.

1996 QF loss to India. I remember watching the game on PTV and after the game even the tv presenter was in tears. The whole nation was heart broken that day.

For me it has to be PAK vs IND 2003 WC match. Simply because it is one my childhood memories of saying goodbye to Wasim and Waqar.

Mohali semi-final, of course. All we needed to do was take the first two catches that Tenda sent our way.

Even after that, the chase was going well but Hafeez played the silliest shot which he really should not have played.

NZ vs Aus - 2015 WC Final

Argentina vs Germany - 2014 WC Final

2003 WC final. Some of the players like Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid deserved a WC title.

Mohali 2011 is really the only one that stabs at my heart these days. India had all but rolled over for us.

Antigua 2000
Sydney 2010

Will never get over these two in my lifetime.

Wow this is some list!
Are you sure all of these still hurt you? Aane do series 3rd odi for example lol we won that series. yes a whitewash would have been special but surely it doesn't still hurt you

In hindsight - the 3rd ODI series of the Aane do series was just a random ODI but it was our first and probably last chance to inflict a series whitewas against India on their home turf.

We were chasing 165 on a spinning wicket - doesn't come much easier for our one dimensional batting. Plus our confidence was sky high after winning the series and India's was at an all-time low.

Yet we still bottled it...

Our so called Asian specialists like Nasir, YK, Malik all failed that day.

Spot on :)

Can't believe I forgot that game in my list.

We had our spin trio of Ajmal, Afridi and Hafeez at their peak in Asian conditions yet we still bottled that game.

I thought for sure we would win after posting 329/6. I honestly thought it would be a thrashing like the 2017 CT final. But Kohli had other ideas that day....

Not sure why people keep mentioning the 2011 Mohali SF.

Before the game - I knew we had no chance of winning. Winning a WC SF against India in India is beyond impossible - it is UNFATHOMABLE.

To put it bluntly - there was simply no circumstances or scenarios in which Pakistan could have won that game.

People can keep harping about Tendulkar's 5 dropped catches, or Hafeez's poor stroke that led to his dismissal or YK being strangled by India's part time spinners or Misbah's poor innings but it is all academic.

We were out of our league - plain and simple.

Same, 1996 WC QF. That Indian team didn't deserve to be on the same field as us, yet we lost. Yes they had home advantage, yes Jadeja played the innings of his life, yes our talisman had to sit the game out, but even then -- we should have crushed India. More than 1999, I believe that was a world cup we should have won given the strength of the team.

Bhai you have to develop a thicker skin if you are a Pakistan fan. If some of the matches above still hurt you, you're looking at a tough life ahead.

What was wrong with Headingley 2010? We won

My apologies - I meant the Edgabaston and Trent Bridge Test's in which we were bundles out for less than 100 runs in both test matches.

Bhai you have to develop a thicker skin if you are a Pakistan fan. If some of the matches above still hurt you, you're looking at a tough life ahead.

The games you highlighted above were all the result of either a horrible batting collapse i.e. during SAF's tour of Pakistan in 2007 - we needed 40 runs with 6 wickets in hand yet we still bottled it... or we flopped like no tomorrow with the bat.

I would have accepted those losses had we put up a fight but to get bundles out for 80 odd vs SAF in 2006 in an iCC tournament game or watching Sohail Tanvir transform Maxwell into Shane Warne with us needing two runs to win is just to much to bear and frankly pathetic... :(

99 Final
2010 WT20
Brisbane Test 2016
2011 Semi Final
2014 WT20 vs West Indies

2003 World Cup final.

To a lesser extent, the 2004 Sydney test - we snatched a draw from the jaws of an incredible series win in Australia!

2. 1996 World Cup quarter final at Bengaluru
3. 2011 World Cup semi final at Mohali

2011 WC group game against south Africa
2014 wt20 final:(
2016 wt20 semi final ( damn ..those no balls still hurt)
And .....
No that's it. :-)

2007 T20 WC Final
2010 Sydney Test
2010 T20 WC Semi final
2011 WC Semi
2013 Test vs Zimbabwe
Every match of the 3-0 to Bangladesh
The test vs Sri Lanka recently where we couldn't chase 120 something

1996 WC QF loss to India. We had a far superior team and still managed to lose to a weak Indian side. That loss still hurts even today.

This match is usually the first match I think of when talking about hurtful loses. Like you mentioned we had the bowlers, we had the total setup and we just had the momentum. We get Gambhir out on 5 and I'm like perfect start and then it fell to pieces.

2003 WC final that's the worst loss we ever had.
1996 SF Vs Sri Lanka that was also really bad as a kid I was heartbroken to see us lose to Sri Lanka in a manner that we lost.

That was not your strongest team. A team whose captain stands down minutes before the game would be rattled for a big game.

Chennai test 1998/99
Barbados test 1997
Jo'burg test 1996/97
Sydney test 2004 and 2008
Cape Town test 2007
Trentbridge 2011
Edgbaston 2018
Capetown and Centuiron 2018

ODI's - 2003 WC final, 1996 SF, 1999 super six game v Zimbabwe (cost India 2 points in Super six), 2014 WT20 finals

p.s. I don't wish Ind v Ban 2007 WC would be any different that what it was, coz that defeat led to
1. India being ousted
2. Dravid resigning and Chappell leaving
3. Sachin and Dravid stepping down for WT20 in 2007 and Dhoni being catapulted as captain
4. India winning Wt20
5. Spawnned off interest in a brilliant spectacle called IPL
6. Indian cricket today needs to thank IPL for a lot of good things which are happening to it (yes there are bad things too, but IMHO the good outweigh the bad by a huge margin)

Mohali. I will never forgive Misbah and Younis for playing pathetically in that match. It should have been the end of their ODI careers but they still continued and kept on embarrassing themselves.

That was not your strongest team. A team whose captain stands down minutes before the game would be rattled for a big game.

Even without Wasim we had enough senior players with experience of pressure situations to cope. Can't use the absence of a top pacer as an excuse given we won in 1992 without Waqar.

The only liability in our 96 WC team was a past it Javed Miandad.

That top pacer was your captain and knowing how volatile the captaincy situation in Pakistani team back then was, I would imagine, it would have been hard for Sohail to instruct seniors. Nonethless 84/0 after 10.1, I thought it would be a cake walk for Pakistan. Of all the people Sohail had a brain fade and lost concentration.

I don't understand how you can still be hurt over a few collapses in bilateral series but fail to see that the Mohali semi-final was a similar loss. We were not out of our league, not even close. Pakistan were ahead of the game from the time Sehwag got out to the dismissal of Hafeez. After that it was a straightforward chase but the batsmen lost their heads.

India were the better team on paper since that was their greatest ODI team of all time but you wouldn't know that from the action on the field.

Mohali. I will never forgive Misbah and Younis for playing pathetically in that match. It should have been the end of their ODI careers but they still continued and kept on embarrassing themselves.

You've forgiven Hafeez, Afridi, Akmal and Razzaq?

Gambhir was actually out on 0 - I believe a 2nd ball duck :)

But everything else you said is spot on!
