After having suffered from mild Sciatica due to which i had to deal with a sharp shooting pain in my lower back radiating to my right leg for the last 6 months, i can tell you it takes a mental toll as well given that you have to battle with the pain and deal with the frustration of not being able to do things that you loved to do in the past i.e. physical activities, lifting weights in the gym and to see yourself decline physically as you can't risk further hurting your back.

In this regard, i now actually understand what Michael Clarke was able to achieve in his career and been able to play 100 test matches for his country while battling a chronic back problem 10-20 worse then what i have right now is incredibly remarkable.

Michael Clarke generally is underrated in my opinion. Factoring in his injury, shows how resilient a character he was.

By the way sorry to hear about your injury. If you don't mind me asking, what cause /triggered it? Specific exercise in gym etc?

I suspect a rock climbing session in May plus combined with the fact i had a desk job where i was sitting and working for 12-14 hours daily for a month every day. Health is wealth

Im also suffering from same since one year.

It was at worst this time last year and reason for same as I understand were desk job and sitting with bad posture, running/jogging with no proper stretching.

Its never caused a day but happens due to contionously not taking care of your body.

Since, last year December started losing weight by doing weightlifting and havent even done running one bit.

With time i have made sure that doesnt get that pain.

One of my all time favourites. A great leader and a very good batsmen. The fact he played so many games for his country despite the problems with his back is a testament to his character.

I was kinda annoyed at him for retiring at 33 and felt he was just taking easy way out

But ive heard from a few people who said that there were literally mornings he couldnt get up from the bed

and that it got worse everyday

still maybe if he was motivated he might have fought through because he isnt the first athlete with a severe injury

A back injury is not to be underestimated. They have forced people to stop working in simple office jobs and we are talking about athletes over here

Clarke was borderline crippled as a batsman for the last few years of his career because he could barely move his back.

Its why his average dropped below 50.

Couldn't bowl his spin either because of his back. Suggests a serious serious issue.

One of my favourite cricketers- cover drive to behold. Shame he's such a shocking pundit.

His ability to play the hook and pull shot suffered the most. The English were peppering him with short pitched stuff knowing full well the state of his back.

Yep. His century in his last tour of South Africa was incredible.
