Mickey has seen a lot during his stay with Pakistan cricket team so far. The highs and the lows of Pakistan cricket can be troublesome for the mental health of coaches but Mickey has shown good spirit. Its about time an appreciation thread was made so that he knows what the fans think about him.

This is to let Mickey know that :

1) Your work is being appreciated by fans and isnt going unnoticed.

2) We know the team is far from being where fans and Mickey himself would like it to be but the signs are encouraging.

3) We genuinely believe that you want good of the team and you aren't occupying the coach's position just for the sake of it. Your press conferences show that you are emotionally involved with the team.

4) The way you protected the captain after a loss against India by facing the media yourself hasnt gone unnoticed.

5) We trust you to leave Pakistan cricket team in a much much better position than what it was when you took over.

Thank you Mickey for not being a dud. :yk

PS : show him some love folks.

Amazing coach. Just needs to bring Haris in at number 4 and needs to find another dynamic opener. People bashing him were clueless and impatient.

Azhar is a brilliant opener.. Hafeez is a brilliant number 4 as well... no changes needed

Mickey, why is hafeez still in the team? What does he bring to the team besides just showing up?

Yeah, he seems to be genuinely involved with the team. Loved how Pakistan has become one of the worlds strongest bowling line ups again, guess a lot of credit should go to Azhar Mahmood as well.

Mickey, why is hafeez still in the team? What does he bring to the team besides just showing up?

The way I see is that hafeez as a senior has been given a safe place for the CT and the expectation on him is to deliver good results. They have told him that he will be picked for the whole CT. Hence no pressure on him due to uncertainty of making in the final XI or not.

Unfortunately for him and thankfully for us right now his performance has not been up to the mark.

He will be dropped soon after the CT. Hopefully. Otherwise Mikey will lose 10 points of my trust.

Only one of hafeez or Malik can stay I the team. Ideally none.

We need to give him the long rope and support to implement what he wants. U can't argue with the youngsters that have come through in his time. All have shown something and he does like the investent in youth.
Shadab babar hasan Fakhar Faheem all look promising

mickey has made some terrible egoistic decisions like selecting wahab riaz and dropping sohail khan etc but some good decisions were also made and good playing plan was deviced and glad he is not using sarfraz as his puppet and a script writer and trying to form a team work here

i didnt believe him earlier when he said that he and sarfraz are doing team work at the start of the tournament and thought he was being a dictator like waqas yunus but pakistan team clearly seems a changed unit in the matter of few games

credit to mickey and i was wrong about him and if he carries on like this should be persisted.

..He's doing a stellar job.. The squad seems to have a good rapport with Mickey. There's a good aura about the team and management at the moment.

Wahab career is over..
Hafeez showed that he is a competent modern batsmen when there is no pressure on him and when opening partnership is good, same for Babar!

Hafeez still needs to go. He is liability, Even today Buttler missed his stumping

How quickly did things turn around from he should be sacked to appreciation thread..

hahahah exactly!

Need him till 2019 WC, as I used to say from the very 1st day.

He needs to be give an aggressive approach to the batting order and change things during the match when needed....Going with the planned batting order is not always the best but he seems to be scared.

I won't lie I became a big critic for Mickey after that horrendous Australian summer and then the team proceeded to get drubbed in a test Against WI and the CT Opener but credit should be given where credit is due. :14: :14: Hats Off Mickey for a wonderful comeback and instilling the hunger and fight in the boys again - We highly appreciate it !! Clearly the best coach we've had since the days of Woolmer

Apart from Mickey I believe Azhar Mahmood also deserves a good amount of praise for totally turning around this bowling attack and giving them excellent plans for on field execution. He has done his bit in getting us here as well and we should appreciate it....

Backed him since day one and will continue to back him. Pcb must give him the backing to build a young team. Look at how he has done with this team. No one thought we would get this far, but since the India game our team selection has been correct and everyone knows there job which the players always mention when interviewed.

He has played a part in improving Babar, Hasan,Sharjeel, and Fakhar.

Also Mickey has shown by getting rid of Umar that he is serious about fitness.

Should be our coach till 2019 WC minimum.

Off late he has done better than I expected and possibly won me over (if he wins the CT :srt). I think the turning point was when he sent back Akmal and how he handled the humiliation from India.

:salute

As I have said from the beginning hiring someone like Mickey Arthur as coach with a no nonsense approach and with a point to prove is the best thing PCB could have done. Obviously the players have to also back him up it's a two-way street so was always going to take some time. Certainly starting to reap the rewards now tho and Sarfraz as cap'n is proving to be the perfect foil. ODI batting is still a bit of a concern but I don't think I've seen Pakistan field as well as they have done this tourney or been this clinical with the ball since that wakeup call against India.

If you go back and read my posts (note that many of you are not saying this) I said that he needed to be given a run until 2021. I did not expect for him to start achieving this kind of success quickly. This team also seems to have a thing for England-drawing the Test series and winning the T20 here last year, and now in the finals of the champions trophy. If ECB is willing and PCB can take the gate, then serious thought needs to be given to Edgebaston, the Oval, and perhaps a third ground in the north as an alternate home until Pakistan can play in Pakistan again.

There was talk of a review after the Champions Trophy. I think that if they are foolish enough to call one, CMA will probably get his way and force Azhar and Hafeez out of the side, and he will hopefully get more A tours. Look at what having just a few did-we found Fakhar Zaman, as well as a number of other quality players.

Post Champions Trophy will be a good time for a break for the Pakistan side. They need to get the players into a fitness camp.
Here's a question I continue to have-if Azhar Ali is such a hard worker, why doesn't he learn some more strokes? Is he physically incapable of doing so? I think he wants to play as a proper opener, but he doesn't have the skills to do it in LOI-the difference between him and Sharjeel/Fakhar is perhaps strokeplay. Those two see a ball and have a plan of attack for it. Azhar may see it, doesn't know what to do, so he just blocks down instead. The fact that he has never had a consistent batting coach can't help. You have seen him huff and puff and try to play according to the situation (as we saw vs. India). I think the mindset is there, but the skills are not. We will have a few months off for him to learn some new shots.

The team needs to stay in camp over the summer. Give them time to see their families, perhaps enjoy a bit, but the art of building a successful culture isn't complete yet, not by a long shot. CMA and Sarfraz have a huge opportunity to put their stamp on the team over the summer. They need to go and do it. It's gotten better over the course of the year, but this opportunity can't be wasted.

sarfaraz-arthur combo ll do wonders for us
i hope mickey atleast stays till 2019 wc

Dunno why ex-cricketers were calling for his removal so early with lame excuses that he was sacked from his previous position... just jealous i think. Infact he puts in alot of planning and should be given time to show results (which are already being seen in the fitness and fielding efforts) :)

Mickey is THE MAN. Last three matches the tactics have been spot on.

I think his influence is in ways that go beyond the cosmetic issues of which player is selected.
its the fitness regime. And i guess that is paying off.

How quickly did things turn around from he should be sacked to appreciation thread..

There will always be reactionaries. Those who follow cricket, know things can take time to turn around. But certainly, the general signs seem to be positive regardless of what happens tomorrow.

I sincerely hope this is the case. Hafeez is definitely not a number 4- which is a crucial batting position.

He is not like Dav Whatmore who was too friendly and not very ambitious. He did win Asia Cup but that team straight after WC 2011 was strong regardless.

Mickey is straight talking, ambitious and not just satisfied with the odd win. Its rubbing off on the players, its changing their mentality and approach.

To be honest, i think Whatmore was just happy to collect a paycheque and he probably decided to give up early on seeing the challenges with the players and the system.

Arthur is determined to do his job regardless of the players culture hangovers and the challenges in the system.

Just a few days back people here were bashing the likes of Arthur, Rixon and Flower and now all of a matter of 3 games and songs of praise all over.

Mickey is the best thing that's happened to Pakistan cricket for a long, long time.

Given our pathetic media, corrupt board, nepotistic selection and unprofessional setup. Mickey Arthur is our only hope.

If he's really decided to drop Hafeez, along with Malik, Azhar and anyone who is useless for the team, he'll have my full support.

I am sure Mickey will be able to convince Inzi if they have a one to one meeting. Language barrier will be an issue though.

Pak will lose with or without hafeez in England and South Africa tour and then hafeez come back in world cup. This all is strategy of professor. Mickey can't understand him. If mickey remove all seniors and then pak still lost. All blame lies on Mickey and sarfaraz. SC teams can't take more than 3 defeat. Their people change opinions 180° in only 1 or 2 defeats 😁😁

Please give him more authority. He will build a young team and make sure the team is selected on merit.

The battle lines have been drawn. Arthur will not tolerate these sainted seniors who are holding back the side.

Experienced players are meant to lead from the front but time and again on this NZ tour its the youngsters who've shown a semblance of fight. After a 5-0 drubbing these seniors have no leg to stand on, now is an ideal time to discard them once and for all

Don’t start celebrating too early... Hafeez isn’t out of the team yet

If he is sacked, how much compensation PCB has to suffer - any clue?

Let's work what is the allowable % for PCB for a net positive - what I have read, he is like $35K/month as cost to company (total expense of PCB for his service) - that's about $600K for his remaining contract.

Now, if he is sacked after Kiwi tour and replaced by say Ul Haq. I believe, Ul Haq would be happy to work at $18K/$19K easily - that's almost 200% wage hike and apart from status, it helps him to serve "trusted" players in PAK team as well. For "Coach' like Mohsin Khan, Abdul Qadir, Basit ALi or Rashid Latif - total payment for 16 months could be $18K/$19K, because I am sure these great souls would happily render their services even for free for the sake of serving mother Pakistan cricket.

So, it indicates, actually it's financially net positive for PCB to sack Arthur and appoint Ul Haq as long as the compensation isn't more than 50% of entire Arthur's contract value (for others, it doesn't require even to do a maths). Besides, he knows lot about cricket, can teach even Arthur few tricks.

I would have been nervous, if I were Micky Arthur today. Don't mess up with national treasure, Mickey ..........

This guy is literally saving Pakistan cricket.

After the drubbing in the ODIs, he took a tough call by confronting underperforming seniors like Mohammad Hafeez and dropped him for this series.

He has invested in the younger players and whilst the batting lineup still needs another powerhitter or two - we have recovered superbly from six consecutive defeats to become the first Asian team to win a T20 series in New Zealand.

When Arthur took over after the group stage exit from the 2016 WT20 we were 7th in the rankings. Now we are ranked 1st and one of the contenders for the next WT20.

Taken us to number 1 in t20s. Aided the development of Shadab,Faheem,Hasan, and Fakhar. Won the CT. He needs to improve his test record and needs to back spinners in UAE.

Best coach since Woolmer!

Its not like he bloody waved a wand and mercilessly put Pakistan odis back into lyne

After NZ put Pakistan to the sword in the odi internationals, nice to see the Pakistani batsmen have stopped ducking out of a duel and managed to pull their best bats out of the stone rack on the dressing rooms

The best Pakistan coach in many years, surely Sarfaraz the captain and he as coach complement each other. Bob Woolmer and Mohsin Khan were also great coaches for Pakistan but they had Inzamam and Misbah as captains, poor and defensive who lost series in abundance and put certain players above doing well for the team.

Arthur is aggressive, abrasive and passionate, but if he drops or does'nt play a Pakistani cricketer for whatever reason I would trust him than anyone as I feel that he would do whatever necessary for the benefit of Pakistan team. He has earned this trust and delivered results to prove it. He should get more responsiblity in the selection.
IfI was PCB, I would make the chief selector Inzamam resign and give Sarfaraz and Arthur the task to plan, and build the PAkistan squad to make Pakistan the no#1 team in odi format and no one would be allowed to interfere in their job.

Shows what Arthur and co can do if given full authority to implement their vision.

Even though it's a risk in test cricket as Mickey doesn't always read Asian wickets well and opts to play max. pacers even on the most docile wickets.

He has my respect if there’s no Azhar, Malik or Hafeez in next ODI team

Truth be told his tactics in the series so far have been spot on and playing Shadab and Fahim at 7 and 8 might just be the masterstroke that wins us the series.

Terrific stuff from Mickey in this series.

The team looks well drilled and prepared.

Mickey Arthur's influence and regard in the PCB and management is as high as Imran's was in the 80's. He selects the teams, selects the XI, selects coaching staff, chooses the management and even chooses what we play, where we play and how we play. Been working so far and I like it. Pakistan needed a dictator.

Best coach since Woolmer. Markhor . We always backed him.

This combination of Mickey, Inzi and Sarfaraz has been amazing. I can only see us improving more under them.

Great coach. Thankfully, PCB realised that great players like Waqar don’t necessarily make great coaches.

By the way, if PCB have any brains, the next coach will be Azhar Mahmood. The guy has all the attributes and experience required. And none of the ego issues of the superstars like Waqar.

Mickey tere jan nisar

beshamar beshamar

Lolz couldnt stop myself

Call him whatever you want, but you can't dispute his common sense selection when choosing the final XI. Idk how much input Sarfraz gives, but if he is behind the test team then kudos to him as well. Few years ago we'd get random players in our final XI and we'd be going wth are these people smoking, but that has stopped recently and pretty much each and every selection has some sense and meaning behind it.

Pressuring Hafeez out of the test side was a HUGE landmark with his no nonsense approach. Waqar was full of hot air and empty promises which he never manifested into reality. Mickey has made good on p much all his promises thus far.

Good stuff Mickey.

Its because of Sethi's quick wit he bagged Arthur. What a hire. PCB finally being run properly. If only entire set up were like Arthur, intelligent, articulate and get the job done attitude. Its pinnacle of sports management. Mickey could manage a football team and make the win.

Pakistan's greatest coach ever. To outfield England is something we never ever thought we would see.
Furthermore to get the bowlers to finally pitch the ball up has been amazing. Have torn my hair out with the likes of Sami, Gul and Amir bowling the wrong lengths in England for decades.

Excellent coach. I think he fit in so well, because he learned a lot from his Australian experience. I can imagine how much self control was required to let misbah and Younis play as long as they did.
It’s funny how when you do he right things, the stars align in your direction: the champions trophy gave him the room to boot out junior, shehzad, dropmal, and even hafeez and Malik.

Been a bad few months for Mickey though partly due to his captain's on-field ineptitude in losing winnable Tests. In Tests he's made some selection errors such as blind backing of Shafiq and playing Hafeez in those five UAE Tests vs Aus and NZ.

However the white ball teams have progressed under his watch. Regardless of what happens in the decider in Cape Town, this has been a very creditable ODI performance in South Africa where we've struggled historically. We've recovered well from the Asia Cup debacle and would've won the 3rd ODI v NZ without the rain.

He now needs to discard Amir who's playing on reputation, and drop pseudo allrounders like Faheem who contribute little in either department. He should also consider including a specialist spinner like Zafar Gohar as we've seen how lethal Yadav and Chahal have been for India even in SENA conditions.

Against AUS, they should play Irfan or Gohar in UAE, to make sure that Shadab & Imad has competition. And, absolutely no bowling from Hafeez, which will be the worst investment for WC. Next priority is to find a new ball partner for Shaheen.
