"Mickey Arthur, who was summoning all his spirituality for the last hour, leaps off his seat in the pavilion."

:))

Pakistan's performance under Whatmore in the 2013 CT with a stronger side and Pakistan's performance under Mickey Arthur in the 2017 CT with a weaker side is for everyone to see.

This inaffective coach has just give you your best moment since 92.

Backed Mickey since day one. Glad he proved my faith in this tournament.

He has delivered the first 50 over ICC tournament in over 25 years. Close this thread he has just joined Pakistans history.

Seeing him whining like a kid after losing tonight just makes me glad India never considered this small team coach for a major role.

A coach who does not have the back of his troops in tough moments does not deserve to be the coach. The PCB moved on from him for a reason. He has taken Sri Lankan Cricket totally to the gutter.

What was he doing? Clearly Shanaka has had enough of him and told him to go talk to someone else.

Lot of ex cricketers like Rashid Latif are now asking why was he fired ? When he was coach same guys were calling him all sort of names.

What was he doing? Clearly Shanaka has had enough of him and told him to go talk to someone else.

Precisely.

These small team coaches treating their players as if they were volleyball girls.

Cricket is a major sport and cricketers are stars. A coach cannot publicly talk to a cricketer like this.

Pathetic stuff from this wannabe.

You can't make out from that little audio-less clip as to what was going on. For all we know Shanaka was telling him to ensure that the dinner contains tandoori roti instead of the kulchas that people are sick of eating every damn day.

Mickey Arthur says learning to play under pressure and will risk is crucial to the development of Derbyshire’s squad, after their LV= County Championship defeat to Sussex.

Having bowled the hosts out for 337 in the first innings, Derbyshire opted not to enforce the follow-on, with the aim of piling on runs in the final session of Day Three to set up a testing chase.

However, the loss of seven wickets for 127, coupled with rain on the final morning eating into the day, saw Derbyshire declare and set Sussex a target of 342 to win.

Despite the disappointment of the defeat, Arthur says the squad will learn from the experience as they look towards the second half of the season.

“I think one bad session can cost you dearly in first-class cricket, so it was disappointing with the bat yesterday.

“I’ve always said that we will risk a loss to get a win, because that’s how you produce cricketers and a team, that’s how you create a culture. It didn’t work out for us today, but I’m proud of the players and I can’t fault their effort, we’ve played some very good cricket again, but for one bad session.

“The lead was significant, but you want your bowlers to have a rest, a couple of them have niggles so we didn’t want to push them straight back out there. One good session of batting would have given us 85-90 overs at them with more than 380. We didn’t bat well enough and it made the chase shorter than we’d have liked.

The brand of cricket we will continue to play is to win rather than draw. When I arrived, I said I wanted us to be a team which is hard to beat, we’ve passed that stage now. The next stage in our evolution is to put ourselves under pressure to win games.

“It’s worked well for us so far, if we won today we’d be pushing for second, but we’re in the middle of the table with six games to go and that’s reflective of the cricket we’ve played.

“The attitude and consistency we’ve shown in our white ball cricket is because of the standards we’ve set, and we’re always looking for that victory.”

I have been a big critic of him especially in regards to his rigid philosophy but I think he tends to do well with junior and young cricketers. He is usually at his best when he has a novice team at his disposal and he is able to develop new guys whether batters or bowlers massively.

I think the current position he is holding in county cricket is the most suitable to his personality. He can really help develop the upcoming guys both local and international.

Head of cricket Mickey Arthur says Derbyshire are "daring to dream" of a maiden T20 Blast title as they prepare to face Somerset in the quarter-finals.

The Falcons travel to Taunton on Saturday for what is just their fifth knockout game in 19 years of domestic T20 cricket in England.

Already Derbyshire have won nine matches in the competition this season, a record for the side.

"It's about keeping the guys confident," Arthur said.

"What we keep saying to the guys in the dressing room is to 'dare to dream'.

"We have come off some good results and we have played so good cricket."

The words 'dare to dream' have become a mantra at Derbyshire since the arrival of South African Arthur, who left the job as Sri Lanka head coach last November to take over at the Incora County Ground.

The team he took charge of in the East Midlands was one that finished bottom in their One-Day Cup group, second bottom of their group in the T20 Blast and only avoided finishing bottom of Division Three of the County Championship with a final-match win against Sussex.

Under Arthur this season, they have won 12 matches in all competitions, and a win at Taunton on Saturday would see them double the amount of victories they managed over the course of the entire 2021 season.

"When I arrived at the club, they had come off a particularly poor year last year," Arthur told BBC East Midlands Today.

"It was about building confidence, it was about making guys believe in their own abilities, it was about making guys the best they can be.

"'Dare to dream' is something we started off at the start of our campaign - let's dream for bigger things, why shouldn't we? Yes, we take it one game at a time, but let's as a collective dream for bigger things."

Derbyshire finished third in the Northern Group to reach the quarter-final for just the fourth time since domestic T20 cricket was introduced in 2003.

Victory against Somerset would see them advance to the last four and Finals Day at Edgbaston for just the second time ever, having last got there in 2019.

Derbyshire will have to do so without this season's leading scorer Shan Masood in the side, with the batter replaced by Australian Hilton Cartwright while away on international duty with Pakistan.

"We believe on our day we are good enough to beat anybody and we have shown that through the season so far," Arthur said.

"They [Somerset] are a hell of a team down there, and it will take a massive effort from us, but we believe. It's about confidence, building the boys up.

"We have to make sure they [the players] all bring their best games to make sure we continue to dare to dream."

The England and Wales Cricket Board are showing "disrespect" towards the T20 Blast due to many England players being unavailable for the latter stages of the competition, according to Derbyshire head coach Mickey Arthur.

The ongoing T20 international and ODI series against India mean that counties have so far been denied access to most of their England stars for the QF knockout stages of the county circuit’s premier seasonal competition. More of the same is expected for Finals Day on Saturday 16th July.
